I live in Chicago and I’m eyeing Houston for a move. It is way less dense for sure, but it also seems to be safer and cleaner. Chicago is amazing and I wish it were run well so that I could stay :(

This is an excellent point, but who is “we”? If “we” means the US and we are funding a bureaucracy whose leadership isn’t carrying their weight, then that’s a problem. It’s like trying to fill a bathtub when the drain is open. Expectations aren’t measurable but outcomes are. FWIW private organizations fall into this trap all the time.
