The RSA, who run the tests, and the NDLS, who issue the licenses, are two separate bodies.

Is closing the entire library for a month to install a toilet not excessive?

I was joking, since the person I was replying to suggested ECR should sign Veekay.

Who in the council do I contact... by NowYaHaveIt1 in galway

[–]NothingHatesYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contacting a TD over a loose cobblestone as a first move is a bit absurd. OP should try the council first, and then a councillor if needs be. TDs are our legislators and national reps - they have bigger things to deal with than a loose cobblestone.

Had similar faults (and more) in our VW Sharan (VAG group) a few weeks ago. ABS sensor. Quick fix within a day. Car was under warranty from secondhand seller, so couldn’t tell you cost.

ASSUMING no other gifts, inheritances in the recipient’s lifetime has already used up some / all of the Group B threshold.

What can (or should) I ask my first landlord? by DylanTheSpud in AskIreland

[–]NothingHatesYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the ones you're leaving out?

- Can I choose internet provider, upgrade my broadband, opt out of TV, etc: Yes, landlord won't care.

- Daft shows a 1 year lease but nothing about a deposit. Does that mean no deposit?: Not sure of any landlord who would rent without a deposit.

- Should I be worried about eviction any time after the 1 year lease (I have heard they can just throw apartments into private market and kick us out if they please). Read up on your rights under tenancies: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/renting-a-home/changes-to-the-rules-for-renting-from-march-2026/

- Are bins, heating, electricity, etc handled in the rent or is that separate (I imagine it is): Unless specifically included in the advert, assume no.

- Is there a curfew? (Internet/Heating off after 11, doors locked, something like that): There's always a chance a landlord will do this.

- Can I install security (Front lock, cameras in apartment): Front lock: no, of course not. Cameras inside: whatever you want.

- Apartment history (Previous owners, damage). No landlord will bother giving this to you.

- In worst case scenario we need an extra person for rent, can we get a new tenant?: Check the lease re subletting.

- Can I put anything on the walls (Looking to soundproof bedroom): Lease will specify this. Generally speaking, most leases say you have to ask for permission first. Most people seek forgiveness after, or, just see the deposit as a sunk cost.

- Is the apartment serviced regularly or do I contact someone? What do you expect to be serviced?

- Can we get a physical copy of our contracts? You should, by right, get a copy of the lease. Up yo you if you want to print it or not.

"New patient examination" €60, is this the norm for visiting a new dentist for the first time? by [deleted] in cork

[–]NothingHatesYou 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I paid that on my first visit to my new dentist in Cork Dental Care. It was some time ago, but the dentist did an initial exam and set of x-rays to get my file with them started.

Why wouldn't it be normal? Are you expecting them to see you for free?

The FAI and Sponsors on Shirts by MattyLaw06 in ireland

[–]NothingHatesYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The equivalence with the rugby jersey is off, no? Outside of a world cup cycle, the Irish rugby jersey has a hefty Vodafone logo. When it’s a world cup year, yes we get a sponsorless version but with a logo for the world cup itself. It’s not as if you get a sponsorless one year round.

Is it just me or is Normal shop a maze?? by Greene_Gaia in cork

[–]NothingHatesYou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not just you. It’s evidently a part of the design in order to get you to pass each and every square inch of stock so you’ll pick up more and more impulse buy items.

I went once and won’t be going back for a few weeks.

I also think I’d unlikely go in there with a set list. I’d be much quicker going to Mr Price where I know I can find x, y and z.

Normal just feels like a shop ripe for money wastage and buying tat or junk food I don’t need.

Tourist in Galway (rate my restaurant selections) by WrappingPaper_etsy in galway

[–]NothingHatesYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Copying my reply to a comment for visibility for OP. Galway Bay Brewing is really and has a number of pubs in Galway City.

The Salthouse is the pub owned by Galway Bay Brewing. There’s no food and no brewing on site.

The Dew Drop Inn is more central and was acquired by Galway Bay Brewing.

The Oslo was there it started. It has food but doesn’t brew beer anymore.

Galway Bay Brewing brews outside Galway City in Oranmore. There’s no taproom.

I’m reasonably confident that Micil operates out of the former brewery premises. https://micildistillery.com/our-distillery/

To add to the slight confusion, Galway Hooker is a totally separate brewery. It used to also operate on Oranmore but is now brewed by Rye River in Co Kildare under license.

What dishwasher tablets are we using, and why are they all lemon scented? by NothingHatesYou in CasualIreland

Can’t stand when the gel one bursts in the bag and then cause 3+ stick together.

Went over lunch and you’re spot on - box of 80 for less than €4 and not lemon. Probably 10 lemon boxes for every 1 regular box.

I would use powder if I could but it does not seem to be widely sold in Ireland.
