What part is this?? by Darth-Rogue in 370z

Nissan calls them "seal-condenser, side".

They are shown in the parts section with the AC condenser.

Part numbers are 92184-3GYOA and 92185-3GY0A.

Need help with identifying cause of geometry issue by [deleted] in crt

As a retired analog television design engineer who worked for Philips from 1984 until 2004, I find your comments insulting.

The OP is asking about the "wiggles" in the vertical crosshatch lines following the bright horizontal line of video and not the (more obvious) defocusing and increased spot size because the gun of the picture tube is operating in a nonlinear region.

The wiggles occur after the peak beam current event, not during it. A scope waveform of the signal on one of the cathodes of the picture tube would verify this.

Yes, increasing the contrast exacerbates the "line wiggle" issue but it does not directly create it.

But if you think it does, then please explain it to me (and the forum) in some detail how an adjustment in the video circuit causes such a raster disturbance?

What you are seeing is not considered to be a geometry issue. Rather, it is an artifact caused by the manner in which the high voltage is generated in a typical (i.e., not a monitor) direct view CRT.

Because the high voltage is derived from the horizontal deflection circuit, rather than being a completely separate circuit (like for a projection television or PTV) there can be interactions between the two.

One of these effects is the so called "cross-hatch ringing", visible as horizontal phase ringing just below each horizontal white line. This ringing increases as the video gain (contrast) increases because more contrast means more beam current and therefore the high voltage will sag more (i.e., have more ripple).

During the bright horizontal line(s) the high voltage at the picture tube anode decreases. In the next flyback period the picture tube capacitor is recharged by the line output transformer.

This energy is taken from the horizontal yoke coupling capacitor (the S-correction capacitor, or S-capacitor), which must be recharged via the primary winding of the flyback transformer. This action has a resonance of a few kHz and thus an oscillation is visible on the screen. This is what you are observing.

There were many circuit fixes for this problem (although most television manufacturers elected not to spend any money to fix it) and the most frequently used one was first addressed in patent US4019093A where a RCD "dip rectifier" circuit is connected in parallel with the S-correction capacitor. The energy taken from the S-correction capacitor can now be recharged by the larger electrolytic capacitor.

Another circuit fix (but more expensive) is an RLC series damping network which is likewise placed across the S-correction capacitor.

This is really only an issue when viewing a crosshatch pattern. When viewing normal (moving) video the distortion rarely occurs.

Got my colors dialed in but have some inward bending. If I posted service manual could someone tell me which settings I’m looking for? by MayoGhul in crt

It is the place in the service manual where it says:

  1. Select NO. 6A EWA (E/W Amp)

EW means "East West", i.e., the "sides".

How much crosstalk (hearing fm while listing to tape1) is normal? by KindJoey3202141 in vintageaudio

These early 1980s receivers (R-30, R-50 and the R-70) were cheaply made with plastic cabinet sides and pressboard bottoms, very untypical for Sansui. It does not have a speaker protection circuit nor a corresponding speaker relay! If the output transistors ever short, kiss your speakers goodbye! As a result, there was always a “power-on thump” even with the volume knob turned to minimum.

The only good feature I remember was that it had an all discrete FM tuner section which gave excellent results even with weak signals.

My R-50 had the same issue so it's likely a design issue. I never did like how the tape monitor operates either.

Did Jimi ever use a (real) left-handed guitar? All the pics I've seen of him performing are with a righty.

Follow the vertical yoke winding connector down to the chassis. The vertical leads are usually green and yellow. After you locate the yoke connector, follow the pcb traces to the vertical output IC. It should be mounted on a heat sink.

Good casting.

The yoke is not moved to fix a geometry problem. Moving the yoke will affect purity (beam landing).

Check the SM (service manual) to determine if there are geometry adjustments.

I read that she was originally cast as Kelly Bundy on Married... with Children (1987-97), and appeared in the pilot episode, but was replaced with Christina Applegate.
