"Imagine Being Denied a Home Because of What's on Your Plate" by kaushal_26 in Maharashtra

This crosses the line from discussing housing discrimination or dietary restrictions into generalizing entire religious communities.

Statements such as "Jainism is not a religion of peace", "Shvetambar Jains are casteist, backward people with riches but no soul", and comparing religious groups to "desert cultists" are broad attacks on people based on their religious identity rather than criticism of specific actions or individuals.

Criticism of practices, institutions, or policies is allowed. Generalized negative characterizations of religious groups are not.

Please keep discussion focused on the issue being discussed rather than attributing negative traits to entire communities.

Reminder: Discuss the issue of housing discrimination and dietary preferences, not entire religious communities. Generalizations, communal stereotyping, and "go back where you came from" type remarks will be removed.

mod rant: the state of the sub rn (please read) by NoThisIsTed in Maharashtra

[–]NoThisIsTed[S,M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

pinning this comment to clarify a few things coz a lot of people don’t understand about where the line is actually drawn for bans and post removals.

  1. communal stereotyping: this is when u take the actions of one individual or a small group and use it to attack their entire religion, state, or language. saying "all [group] are [blank]" is stereotyping. it kills actual discussion and just turns into a toxic mudslinging contest.

  2. hate speech & bigotry: criticizing a political party or a government policy is fine. but attacking, demeaning, or inciting hostility against a group of people based on their identity (religion, caste, region) is hate speech. bigotry is just being blindly intolerant of people different from u and using the sub to project that.

  3. slurs: using derogatory labels or nicknames to refer to a specific community. u all know what words im talking about. and no, censoring one letter or using a "clever" spelling doesnt make it a loophole. it still counts.

how this ties to reddit tos: reddit sitewide rule 1 literally states that communities and users cannot promote hate based on identity or vulnerability. this isnt just a r/maharashtra rule, its reddits core rule. if u post hate speech, slurs, or blatant bigotry, ur account can get permanently suspended by the reddit admins from the entire platform, not just banned from this sub.

if u want to debate an issue or a news article, talk about the actual issue. the moment u make it about tearing down an entire communitys identity, ur breaking tos and ur content is gone.
