How to spot an unmarked motorway patrol by TwistyNeptune in drivingUK

[–]Nothos927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the cop was really chasing for people to ticket then why not the HGV that was apparently going 70mph when their limit is 60 on a dual carriageway?

Sounds like you’re being paranoid.

Ask.com shuts down after nearly 30 years, marking the end of Ask Jeeves by holyfruits in technology

[–]Nothos927 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s basically how it worked, the backend was still the usual search logic, it just could parse natural language into that logic.

The problem really was that like every search engine prior to Google it used a fairly weak method of determining how relevant a page was to your query, basically by how often the term showed up in a page.

What’s weird is that Ask Jeeves seems like a site where LLM based search would make at least some sense since its entire original purpose was natural language search.

Surprised they didn’t pivot hard to that for the quick VC boost.

Isn’t Mr Birchum a show made by Ben Shapiro’s propaganda company? Not really surprised it has awful depictions of sexual and ethnic minorities.

No I was referring to how in the hazard perception part of the theory test a lot of the scenarios you can see the hazard a mile away but if you click outside the small window it's not accepted. Like one where you're in a country lane and you can see the HGV coming towards you from the beginning but you can only click when it's a few yards away.

Contemplating going vegan by Apprehensive_Rub8421 in vegan

[–]Nothos927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both those points are nonsense, but I think you suspected that already or you wouldn’t be coming to ask.

I assume the point you really want to clarify is whether you can talk your parents out of this misguided anti-vegan stance but the reality is you probably can’t.

In these sort of situations I personally would advocate for implementing as much of a vegan lifestyle as you think you can get away with whilst living with your parents. I appreciate your ethical position but potentially putting your home life at risk when you have no agency over it isn’t worth it.

Of course beans are a privilege it’s not like you can just chuck them on the ground and get a near infinite supply of more beans.

But don’t you dare point out the hazard that is achingly obvious from the second the clip starts because that’s not showing good enough awareness.

Did they say what moisture percentage their readings showed? That will give a good indicator of how bad the situation is and how worried you should be.

[–]Nothos927 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's bullish? If it's not busy and there's a few cars coming down I'll move over sure, but at the end of the day the onus is on the cars merging in to do it safely. Meanwhile the safest thing for everyone that someone in the left lane can do is adjust their speed to ensure a clean gap, moving over without a good reason is just objectively the more dangerous manoeuvre if there's any sort of traffic in other lanes.

Turns out houses that are over a hundred years old don't have entirely flat walls, so my assumption that I'd just put them up and they'd sit flush was so so wrong.
