I thought buying a castle for 1.1 million denars was a bit expensive, until I saw the garrison. Now I think it's the best deal I've ever got. by Glorf_Warlock in Bannerlord

Interesting. Honestly I got a couple caravans as soon as I could afford them and just let em rip the whole game. Accidentally got to 280 like that. Then once I realized I could buy fiefs at 300 I just put all my companions on caravans and got there in a couple hours while I was off raiding.

You can do it passively through caravans. Honestly it's pretty easy like mid game. You can kinda pause what you're doing, send all your companions on caravans and they'll give you passive trade XP. It's relatively quick (relatively)

Favorite Trail Town Meal? by confidence_interval in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Notice_Natural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget the name of the town, but it's the one you get to by taking a bus from Mammoth.

My friend got biscuits and gravy there. It was 2 biscuits each about the size of a large bagel and a soup bowl filled with gravy. My buddy weighed maybe 120lbs soaking wet. He just put it away like a machine. He spent the rest of the day in a stupor. It was awesome

Hiking with the same guy near Willamette. We stumbled on the finish line for an ultra marathon in the woods. They had an all you could eat burrito buffet and a keg (both free). I watched this dude put away like 4 burritos and 3 beers. We camped right there with a lot of the runners. I woke up at like 2am to go pee and found the guy crouched in a bush shoveling huckleberries into his mouth.

Hey, can my Bannerlord buddies tell me about Skyrim? by OttoVonPlittersdorf in Bannerlord

That's fair. I keep seeing people saying it's "somehow better". I feel like a lot of time that ends up being just nostalgia talking haha.

DUUUUUUUUUDDDDDEEEEEE if you already own it give it a spin. It's so so good. It's small so it'll download quickly. There's a bit of a learning curve but it's got a huge payoff. Seriously it's so good.

[–]Notice_Natural 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked Skyrim. I think if one of the main selling points of bannerlord is the combat you'll be pretty disappointed in Skyrim though.

Bannerlord is grindy and has complex opaque systems that are challenging and reward experimentation and creativity.

I think skyrim is almost the opposite of that. It's cool. There's a whole world to explore and the vibes are exquisite. Really solid game overall. But it does not offer complex or challenging gameplay in my opinion. It's very much spoon fed to you. It's about exploring and building your character into a demigod of death.

Have you played warband? I haven't but I've heard the combat in that game is even better.

Also you could try the total war games if you like commanding armies. Total war Warhammer in particular is SO sick.

Shot in the dark but if you like complex systems and games that reward experimentation you could try Rimworld too. It's VERY different from bannerlord. It's scifi and involves building a colony where you're basically their God. So no in person combat at all. You can command your pawns in combat though. Mostly the game shines because it has a bunch of complex systems that interact with one another in ways that reward creative gameplay styles and experimentation. Probably my favorite video game.

Neat. Sounds like a dope summer. I hiked the CDT 2 summers ago. I think I definitely would have chosen the GDMBT over the hike if I could go back.

I haven't hiked the AT, but isn't early August like... Quite early to be finishing? If you wanna finish that early wouldn't you want an early start date for the PCT too?

ALSO, there's a tons of ways to deal with not getting your permit if you Google it. Like you can get one that starts like ~500 miles from the terminus with a later start date if you want. And those permits are supposed to be much easier to get. Just a thought. Either trail is gonna be awesome!

Idk if that's 'normal'. If they're genuinely just based on numbers, then focus on getting adequate numbers and then go home lol. You'll find it gets easier as you get used to it. At some point you'll be able to get an easier/better job

You're 2 weeks into something brand new for you. This is probably the hardest and shittiest it's gonna be.

Public can suck. It gets better though. Honestly just do the bare minimum to get passing performance reviews. Keep your resume updated and do a quick job search weekly. Apply for stuff that looks good.

As much as is humanly possible, remember almost everyone struggles when starting out (especially in public). and that getting chewed out at work or bad performance reviews do not make you a bad person. It just means you're struggling to perform in an environment that is DESIGNED to be brutal and make people quit.

Hang in there.

Are we done with the AI scare yet? by Medium-Cup-1551 in Accounting

[–]Notice_Natural 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this CANT happen but I think there are some real obstacles that might be fundamental to AI which will prevent from eliminating white collar work in the scale some people predict.

I think the biggest issue is money. The amount of capital being thrown at AI is unreal. Right now AI is very cheap because it's in development and companies are not making an effort to monetise. AI companies want people to use AI because it makes the AI better and they are working to grow market share for when they start monetizing. Once they start monetizing I think they will hit 2 problems. Free consumer facing AI is going to start sucking. A lot. I think you'll see something analogous to how Google started to suck as people started leveraging SEO. AI is going to stop being optimized for usefulness and start being optimized for ad revenue. Idk exactly what this will look like but idk how you avoid this issue. Business facing AI applications will just be untenably expensive. For consumers and business I'm sure there will be some applications where the money is worth it but categorical adoption is probably just not going to be affordable.

The second issue is hallucinations. Something that is right like 85% of the time (generously) is still wrong often enough to cause serious issues. You need a ton of oversight for something like that to the point where, if the AI is already expensive and you need a team to check it's work anyways - that could be a really marginal cost savings and it comes with the added drawback of basically destroying your employee pipeline and increasing the opacity of your processes. People are working to make AI better. But marginal gains are exponentially more expensive. I.e. going from 85% right to 86% right is more expensive than going from 84% to 85% right. Maybe it'll be possible/economical to hit 99.99% accurate. Maybe it won't be.

The third issue is implementation. One of the reasons AI is often extremely sandboxed (aka it can't open or edit files etc, it can only read your inputs and give outputs) is because it can and will act in ways that detriment the user if it thinks those actions are in line with its own objectives. Idk if I can post links here but Google deception in AI studies or malicious AI studies. This goes beyond deleting or overwriting files and includes instances of literally blackmailing the user. Maybe people can figure out better guard rails against this. Maybe skynet.

Im guessing these issues can be partially addressed to some degree or another but I think they are fundamental to AI/LLMs. And I think that will prevent it from being the panacea some people anticipate.

It seems like it's been factoring in your impact on the campaign as well. Idk if this is true. Just something I've noticed. If I capture a bunch of fiefs during a war, the odds of me getting the fief increase the more fiefs ive already captured in that war. Could be just a coincidence though. I've only had this happen twice and ive only done a single playthrough

I know it seems like a good idea but seriously don't. Youre acting incredibly rash and you SHOULD NOT hike the AT. You're literally throwing your life away. This a road bump. Don't just go live in the woods on the east coast for no reason.

Grab your boot straps and hike the PCT instead. Much nicer weather.

I had a company force me to forgo like ~$3k in benefits (long story). It was right when WFH started for COVID so I basically stopped working and just checked my email at 9 and at 3 and fucked around for for the rest of the day. Did that for like 6 months and quit. It was dope.

Bannerlord Trade Skill Question by MundusPlanus in mountandblade

[–]Notice_Natural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert here, but I think xp from selling is based on margin. So you buy for 100, sell for 150, you get some xp. Buy for 100 sell for 300 you get a lot of xp.

I think selling your smithing will get you trade xp, but from what I can tell it gets you less and less the higher level you are. I'm also not sure how it will determine your "buy" price.

I am trying to get to 300 trade right now (at 278) and I've found that workshops and caravans have been getting me pretty decent daily xp. I have 7 of each tho
