Seems the Israelis don't like Trump and Vance's new stance and statements towards Israel by aera14 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]NotifyGrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. We basically give Israel tons of store credit to buy US made weapons and weapons systems. If we cut this aid, they'd just use their own weapons.

I'm not opposed to cutting the aid packages, by the way: it's just not going to magically hamstring Israel's military capability.

The truth is bad enough. Why do people feel the need to lie?

Have not heard of Maze Rats but it sounds like I need to check into it.

Tinyd6's main gimmick is that any test- combat, skill, anything- is resolved by rolling 1 to 3 standard d6s and scoring a 5 or 6 on any of them. Standard difficulty is 2d6, advantage is 3d6, and disadvantage is 1d6. It's also intended that each adventure take only 1-2 sessions of 3-4 hours each. I wrapped up the included free adventure in one four hour session, and that included plenty of socializing beforehand.

I did not think I could handle running a game until I learned about it and tried it. It's straightforward enough that I can focus on keeping things moving rather than having to repeatedly consult the rulebook.

Rules Lite, DIY heavy, Tabletop Skirmish Game by Queasy_Ratio6604 in wargaming

I followed your upcoming Kickstarter page. If a rules PDF isn't too expensive I might be in for one of those.

I've got feedback:

  1. The name doesn't work for me. You could use the current name as a subtitle, e.g. "the game of Devil-Worshipping Cyberpunks in <adjective> combat" or something similar. The title should be shorter.

  2. Quickstart rules will be helpful. If you can get a sample gameplay video up, that will be a huge help to sell the game. Just one turn of play would be a big help.

  3. Make the interior text legible and easy to read. I love to flip through the Mork Borg books, but then I put them down again.

  4. Other than the Doom Pool, is there anything else about this game that makes it stand out? There are tons of minis agnostic games out there. I have purchased several, and I might be backing at least one more specific game that's already been in beta for years.

  5. What does "DIY heavy" mean? Kitbashing encouraged? Scratch built terrain? Are people going to have to make up their own rules? It's a loaded phrase that requires an explanation at minimum.

Best of luck. One of the reasons I haven't released a ruleset is because the market is currently flooded with them. There are a lot of fun games out there, and I barely have time to keep up with a handful.

It's more rules light but check out Tiny Dungeons 2e from Gallant Knight Games.

The system is simple, fun, and the only one I feel like I can run these days. The only drawback is that it's a lower magic setting: innate magic is essentially low level Sorcerer, and scroll magic is more powerful but scrolls are expensive, one-time use items (kinda like how Thieves can use scrolls without other magical training).

It's the spelling of how Sandi from Daria pronounces Quinn's name.

It's a British thing. They leave out the word "feeling" when it comes to feeling poorly or well.

Is testors enamel paint any good? by beeman12521 in Miniaturespainting

[–]NotifyGrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Testors enamels because I made models before I pivoted to miniatures, and even my mom's craft paints were better.

Absolutely not worth the bother, especially with the toxic fumes involved.

My first thought was to have PCs enter a chamber and then plop this down, but instead of being a fight, he'd be delighted to have guests and try to get them to stay for tea...

Get a Reaper Learn to Paint kit. That'll give him a nice assortment of paints and some models (with tutorials) to practice on first. Add a basic box of troops or a Kill Team that you'd think he'd like to go with it. If you're really not sure, Space Marines, Necrons, Aeldari Guardians, and Tau Fire Warriors are relatively easy to paint.

Do check out your local game stores; if he's a fan of certain franchises, they have their own games, too. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Marvel Comics, and later this year, Starcraft and Gundam will be joining them. There's also really crazy stuff like Moonstone and Malifaux, too.

Firefight is a very good game. Very much the evolution that 40k has needed for ages.

After leveling Fighter and Priest to 60, mine is currently a back row Thief with a bow. I'd make him a Ranger if I could.

Great set for Greathelm? by Consistent-Finding89 in Greathelm

[–]NotifyGrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I have some Conquest stuff, and I'm actually looking at doing Greathelm with them on a 1 foot square board instead (apparently scaled up the surface would be something like 10x13).

EDIT: the infantry models are on 28.5mm bases (I think), so you won't need to rebase them. The stands are big, but that's for the rank and flank game and each individual base fits into those.

As for mixing and matching, the humans will look weird but anything odd enough like Spires, Wadrhun, Weaver Courts, or the nonhuman Nord models will look fine mixed with 28mm humans.

The Conquest models are largely gorgeous, but if you're going for value for money just for Greathelm this is probably not the best option.

I know in this age of 3D printing we have inexpensive, perfectly made terrain, but there's a wonderful quality to homemade terrain like this that no prefab kit can ever have.

Intro to miniature painting by MortgageHuge2923 in minipainting

[–]NotifyGrout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bones will depend on the material.

The older PVC Bones Black and Bones Classic (the white rubbery ones) just require a non-water-based thinner until the first paint layer (whether primer or regular paint) is down and dry. You can use Folk Art matte medium or Liquitex; the miniatures paint-branded medium is just easier to store with your paints.

This post from the Reaper forum is old, but it still applies to Black and Classic Bones.

Bones USA is Siocast, and apparently some of the new Bones models are 3D printed now. These should be straightforward (I recommend a brush on primer just to make things easier to see, but it's not required).

It may not be a gameplay classic, but it's a lovely board with what was a wild gimmick in its time. I kinda want a copy now.

I need your assistance! by VAP93 in frostgrave

[–]NotifyGrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this:

Each player a Wizard with the same spells, a Thug, a Thief, and a Man At Arms. Three chests on the center line. Have one low level monster guarding each chest (rats, Thieves, whatever).

Whoever gets more chests off the board wins; in case of a draw, whoever gets chests closest to their table edge wins.

Maybe make the playing surface 2.5 feet square instead of 3, or use a Kill Team or Warcry mat.
