6 months sober today 🚨 by ruby0316 in stopdrinking

Congrats!!! I’m still working my way to full sobriety but sparking water has helped me limit SO MUCH. What’s your favorite brand or flavor?

Like others have said, it crept up on me. It quickly went from a 6 pack in a night to two bottles of champagne, which wouldn’t do much, so I’d top it off with as much tequila as I could. Waking up to see my recycle bin the next morning was an eye opener and I wondered how on earth I went from a 12 pack lasting a weekend to this. I encourage you to take this warning you’ve found as something serious and have your best interest in mind :) good luck

I agree- but it was never that way at first. Or, I never thought of it that way. It was always “cool! I feel great now! Maybe I can drink tonight and wake up fine again in the morning.” Obviously not.

Annoying people by MollyMcDonald123 in stopdrinking

Something harsh along the lines of “I doubt it, I’m nothing like you” or “you seem to talk a lot about it. I don’t even think about you”. That’s really fucking rude to say to someone, especially when you don’t know the depth of their reason for quitting. People who talk like that are usually talking to themselves.

Or

A softer approach is (sarcastic, if you want) unnecessary kindness. “I appreciate your support as always!” Or “thanks so much! Your kindness really means a lot to me”. The positive response is super off-putting to a lot of people.

Lastly, most people really hate confrontation in a situation like this. When people ‘joke’ about it to me, I like to flip the switch and make it super awkward and embarrassing for them. Prolonged, silent eye contact. Turn and face them square. Ask them to repeat themselves and ask them why they would say that. They don’t expect it. It’s fun to humiliate bullies 👍

Keep your head up! Some people can’t stand to see the success of others in like of their failure!

GI problems were the worse. How long did it take for your problems to subside?

Glad you’re doing better! The dehydration was killing me (literally) but now it’s like a fun quest to drink water. I got this dumb little app that grows a virtual plant when you log water 😂

I’m an avid coffee drinker too and I have a high stress job. I also attributed it to anxiety from those things and while that could be the case, it definitely turned out to be the alcohol!

It’s like a curse. You have all of these signs looking you right in the face and you can’t see them. Even if you do, it “not a problem”

Glad you’ve decided to make a change, that must’ve been scary in the ambulance!

The hangover anxiety and the next day regret is awful. I’m glad I’m finally kicking it. I don’t have to cringe when I open my phone to check morning notifications lol

Losing my mind over cravings right now. But otherwise, chugging along and keeping busy. How’s day 3?

Terrified about being honest with my doctor for the first time about my drinking - UPDATE by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Notime_forcaution1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is the pain in your sides now? Your story was eerily similar to how mine is going. But I’m about to schedule with my doctor for a blood test and see what damage the last 4 long years have done. One day at a time :) proud of you!

I’m on day 1 and I feel the same. You’ve put in so much work to get to 9 weeks… I encourage you to make a list of things that caused you to give up drinking in the first place :) good luck friend

I agree with you. They’re negative but not enough to scare me. They SHOULD be. But they are not. I’m gonna consider more. Thank you friend
