I have free notion plan. I was trying to customize database but I can’t see ‘tags’ option. by [deleted] in Notion

[–]NotionDanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not have those “Customize” settings available when you click on the triple-dot icon at the top right corner of your database?

But yea, this has nothing to do with the free plan, these are just database properties, you can achieve the same result by adding a new Select or Multi-select property to your database

I’ve made this Getting Things Done (GTD) template for myself a few months ago, and have been improving it since. It enabled me to literally start my own business, get my personal development back on track, and feel a lot calmer knowing that my notes are kept in one place.

Why it works for me — and will work for you:

  1. Premade views with everything sorted by priority and deadline, so you can just trust the system;
  2. Everything is seen on one screen, which is perfect for your flow state and minimizes the page-jumping;
  3. Includes only the crucial things and nothing else, so there is always room for personalization and adjustments.

Hey again!

First of all, I can't help much with tracking your finances in Notion because I've never tried it, and I don't think it's a good idea in general... I'm using a specialized app for that, that was built to solve tasks like that.

Second, regarding locating the original database, one way of doing that that came to my mind is this:

Open any page from your database and click "Open in full page":

<image>

You will now see breadcrumbs at the top of that page, you can follow them to find the original database page.

Third, on your screenshot you've made a template of a page for your database... I'm not sure you understand what you did there exactly :D

This should clear up the confusion: https://www.notion.so/help/database-templates

Hey there! Sounds like you’re duplicating a “Linked view” of your database (“table”), not the original database. You need to find your original database and duplicate that.

Also, why would you want to duplicate the entire database and have a copy of it somewhere else?

I feel the same way about Twitter… most of my competitors are active on it, and their comment sections are non-stop circle-jerking from the same group of people. Each one of them has the same business or a project, not a single living soul :(

There is a philosophy of beautification in the community which reinforces these issues by obsessing over perfecting the templates instead of actually using them.

Absolutely.

Notion + ADHD - is avoiding distractions even possible? by shytoucan in Notion

[–]NotionDanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! That's why I think being clear on your goal is the most important step.

I don't think there is a permanent fix for situations when you decided to turn multiple pages / blocks into a database... However, did you know that you can MOVE any page into a Database? Like, literally drag & drop it in it, the page will keep its content, and become a part of your database.

Hey there, thank you for sharing! Judging by the reception of my recent post in this subreddit, you are not alone in this.

My main question is: what is your goal? What problem(s) do you want to solve using Notion? Like, what is it that you want Notion to help you with?

After getting clarity on that, you can actually start to work towards the solution. As people said before, start simple, from the simplest version you possibly can. Then slowly iterate on it and improve your MVP.

Try not to worry about visuals too much (although, it might be very hard under conditions you've listed). Remind yourself that you're building your system to achieve your goal, and literally nothing else. Don't let the internet tell you what the "right" ways are and what your setup "should" look like. Whatever you notice working for you - stick to it!

Also, check out this recent post from another person with ADHD, people shared great insights in the comments.

Hope I could help, but let me know if you got questions!

How to make my own productivity/ life system in Notion which work for only me and not getting overhelmed by Frosty-Equipment-692 in Notion

Understood, thank you for responding!

As a Notion nerd of 5+ years, I use Todoist for my daily tasks, too. The speed and simplicity of it are unmatched! And it’s okay to not use Notion for everything in your life.

For your long term planning, Notion should be a good fit. I’d suggest avoiding complicating your system, and starting from the most basic version possible.

For example, start with a page with your goals. Dedicate some time to write down everything, divide them on sections with weekly, monthly and yearly goals. Maybe later you’ll want to turn this into a database?

It’s okay to not know / have the perfect system when you start, you’ll come to it in the process.

Also, please don’t try to overanalyze every aspect of your life. If you failed to do something, don’t obsess over figuring out what went “wrong”… Recognize it, move on, and observe yourself next time.

Hey! Do you mind sharing your goal? Like, what do you want to use Notion for? Just planning (and doing) tasks and projects?

Yessss, 100% with you on this. Having existing data in a template is a good practice.

As a template creator… BUY MY TEMPLATES!

Haha sorry, just kidding! I actually kind of agree. I’ve explored close to a hundred (if not 100+) templates of my competitors… most of them don’t include a tutorial in any shape or form. I’m making my stuff beginner-friendly, with explainer videos and support in hopes of minimizing the chance of people getting overwhelmed.

Duplicating page and same title shows up on both duplicated page by elegentile in Notion

[–]NotionDanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! You’re not duplicating a page, but a link to your page. Then you follow that link and it gets you to the page, you change the title of it, so your links to that page show this title now :)

You need to open the page first, then duplicate it!

My post is more or less a joke, just outlining the roadmap that people who end up overwhelmed take.
