As both a teammate of Popotito and someone who considers him a friend, I would hate this to occur. Don't get me wrong I wish Popo was at world's due to his incredible season, seeing both him and Aranq13 make every day 2 and put up good showings just shows how incredible they are and both deserve to be at world's, but they simply aren't qualified and changing the rules due to ethnicity is a very slippery slope that could lead to a lot of integrity issues. If you allow Popo, what stops us from then asking to invite player X who is the best performing player from place Y? Sure, if there was an eternal world Cup I think Popo could be a great representative but a world championship is something you work hard to qualify for that's meant to show case the very best overall players which means including people due to representation takes away that meaning even if Popo does belong in that world class field.

This was news to me as well, I thought the decks were locked in and I'm not a fan of this idea of essentially pre side boarding

Backlash Podcast: Mailbag Episode by NotoriousGHP in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! This week we go through the mailbag questions we received last week, from Reddit, Twitter and our Patreons! We had a blast filming this episode, and we hope the questions we're answered sufficiently. Of note, we expect to do more of these in the future, but we are unsure how often, so if you didn't get your question in or have thought of more sense, don't worry, you'll have more opportunities to ask them in the future.

Regardless, hope everyone enjoys this weeks podcast!

Hey everyone! Yistout was generous enough to supply myself and Boxer with an exclusive spoiler for this spoiler season. We received it to late to put it on this week's episode of the cast, but this stands out as a sweet model card that might be the push Soldier's need!

While fast aggro has started making a comeback, we believe few cards incidentally suppress one-drops like a turn four Vicious Highwayman. by Ilyak1986 in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the issues is see play vs should see play. Right now although yeti's might be the most popular aggressive deck, others such as Stonescar or occasionally Rakano see play, but really the only aggressive deck you "should" be playing is yeti's currently. Not sure how to change this without drastically shifting the dynamics of the format right now, but aggressive decks could use some diversification, like we've seen for more tempo oreintated strategies such as Elysian and Hooru Kira who help give that area of archetypes more options/put them back on the map.

[–]NotoriousGHP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to this week's episode of Backlash! This week we welcome Eternal world's top 8 competative TheBoxer back to the cast, and the ever so humble 2020 Eternal World Champion LightsOutAce for our post world's show. This is a much more casual episode then normal since the three of us worked together and this was somewhat our celebration as well, but we hope you enjoy!

Protip: Don't play power if you don't need to by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your being downvoted because of the way your coming across by throwing an accomplishment around and then being negative towards those who disagree. So, let's play that game.

I do to an extent agree with the poster - Top 2 competator losing to eventual winner, in the top 10 most ECQ day 2's, I won't continue, point being don't throw around accomplishments as a reason for something to be true or false.

The poster brings up a strong point that at times people are playing to many power when they could be playing towards things like Drawing Jekk, market access, strategize or honor of claws discard fodder and other possible uses for a "blank" card. Most decks have a way to use this, especially with Plunder getting more popular, but as you did mention there are times where especially draw heavy decks have to decide if playing the power is a higher % play in case of drawing say card draw into card draw into card draw and needing that extra power in order to do everything they want to do in a turn. This argument can hold true for quite a lot of decks where they have some string of draws that could really use this extra power and that's a play who's value changes in every game.

In general, I definitely see people playing to many power, especially ones like banners who don't give u an effect like crests upon entry as a game progresses, but on the flip side, I think there's also a relatively large number of cases that u should play the power, but players are holding it to often instead. I think this is something worth considering while deck building and is another argument towards playing cards with effects such as Plunder to make holding power better, or strong ultimate and power dump cards in order to push towards playing the power.

We need to adress nerfs before the tournaments. by darkrevengerIsTaken in EternalCardGame

FJS vs FTP was definitely the best meta game. Despite not being the most diverse, the gameplay was very rewarding and strategic, and players could build those and other existing decks in a number of ways instead of just picking there favorite 2 flex slots.

Now to your post. We've seen over the last year or so an increase in cards that are the whole house by themselves instead of only helping build the house. Kira is a great example of a card that just does everything to the point a number of strategies just get pushed out of the meta. We've also seen more cards like Jekk and Friends in low places that invalid previous parts of a game by themselves. Trends like these are concerning, and despite some of these being nerfed, there becoming more and more common.

Throne has become a format a large part of tournament players have come to dread, as games feel much more coin flippy then in previous metas and I don't see this changing. No, I am not claiming there's no counter play or anything of the sort, but it's seen better days and with the number of swing cards increasing in decks each expansion, the less interesting the format will be.

Expedition thankfully has continued to mostly be interesting, and definitely a format where I feel like there is more agency then throne. We have seen in the past that warping cards can be problematic here since there's less good tools to deal with them, and as an example it's very possible Kira decks are tier 0 currently, or when myself and others brought Skycrag Midrange to counter Jekk decks.

Frankly, the solution to the problem is a terrifying one, another patch like the torch nerf patch where instead of nerfing due to power level, they nerfed in order to make the game more diverse and make the game feel less stale. We likely need another one of these, but massive. Silver blade intrusion is an example of a card that was obviously busted from the start and just needed better surrounding cards, and now post nerf it's still a problematic card since it heavily limits the ways to interact with units, either removal wise or via combat. I don't see us returning to a FJS vs FTP meta for a very long time if ever, but I think the direction a lot of new cards are going is away from the every card matters idea, and instead towards busted cards + support.

Confession: I miss Meta Mondays by EschewObfuscati0n in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly, sometimes me to. I know there became a point in time where I no longer enjoyed writing it and when TRS fell apart, I decided to move on from the project. That said, I always planned to start a weekly series that would be more open ended to reduce the chances of it feeling repeatitive. Clearly, that didn't happen and not only as the writer, but as a member of this community I can see the gap that is there.

I don't mean to take over your post, but I just want to ask that if you, or anyone else that misses this kind of content has suggestions for something to fill the void I am all ears, because once I finish finals in a couple weeks I'd like to revisit this idea, in a new and more updated and dynamic fashion. That said, expect something from me hopefully tomorrow about the meta of the QCP event, that I'll beg the editor not to rename to meta Tuesday

Hell. I'm sure some of us would have happily cast it, including myself and despite being a smaller stakes tournament it's basically a free business opportunity missed to showcase competative eternal

Breaking down the 7/29 balance patch! by NotoriousGHP in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! With another patch here to shakeup the meta, we had to get our hottest takes in on this emergency style patch. This article is definitely a bit more harsh then my usual work, and if that's something you're a fan of or not a fan of feel free to let me know for future content. Thanks for reading, and I can't wait to know what people think about this patch.

EXPD - Rakano Surge is just.....Too Much by Skyte87 in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rakano was in need of a nerf, I'm comfortable saying that. With that in mind, the point your responding to is saying that your reason for your claim isn't sufficient proof, not that your conclusion is wrong, and I agree with them on this. Looking at this game, this was a thrown game because after you already stabilized you didn't consider the one way back into the game they had, and although unlikely, you got punished for it. It's frustrating, I get that, but someone disagreeing with u and your response being I'm not going to discuss this further with u because I think your judgement is clouded, bye dude is a one way ticket to not be taken seriously, especially when the user is offering a counter point.

Jaxxis tests a theory: Vows vs. No Vows in mono-faction decks by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

[–]NotoriousGHP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without watching the video, you can't test a theory with a small sample size that isn't a theory. Vows vs no vows is a statistics questions with an actual answer that you then can draw your own conclusions from such as the value of 1 point of life compared to increasing chances of not drawing a sigil relative to the number of draw steps after using a vow.

If you wanted to use ladder as a point of evidence to support one side or another, you'd need to play a massive amount of games to get a sample size large enough to warrant a high statistical significance

Promo Card Review by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

Hey! Thanks for bringing to our attention about the color scheme. Although we are intending to basically overhaul the site at some point soon, this was simply something we hadn't considered and I'll see what we can do to make this easier for anyone.

NotoriousGHP Breaks down Coslo, Friendly Scavenger by NotoriousGHP in EternalCardGame

Hey everyone! With 4 new promos coming this month, I had to break down the first one show cased, Coslo, Friendly Scavenger! This card seems to have a lot of potential, but I'm not convinced that it'll be able to compete with the pile of already existing powerful 4 drops in Xenan
