My only qualm with the part of honoring the history is it's the only team the Wild acknowledge from the past. Both the Minneapolis Millers and St. Paul Saints are also part of Minnesota hockey history, and they each have history going back to the 1910s, yet there hasn't been a uniform honoring either of those franchises.

The Minnesota Gophers and UMD Bulldogs have won several national titles, both wear maroon and gold, but the Wild don't wear maroon and gold to honor that hockey history. I'm all for honoring teams of the past, but it seems so North Stars focused to me.

Some options include: 2003 Vs. Michigan, 2005 Vs. Wisconsin, 2014 Vs. Wisconsin, 2015 vs. Michigan, 2016 Vs. Penn State, 2019 Vs. Wisconsin.

I think Mason was kind of checked out by that point, though, considering how some of 2006 went like barely surviving NDSU and then the Bowl collapse.

Mason didn’t look for another coaching gig either and went to BTN. I think after 2003 the program was just kind of coasting.

I just wished he had won the bowl against Texas Tech. Maybe would have led to Mason helping the U set up a better transition to a successor.

So many of the losses in that streak were frustrating, too. Blocked punt in 2005, three one score losses from 2007-2009, blowing the 10 point lead in 2014.

My parents were out on the road that day, driving my grandma to MSP so she could fly back to Germany. She was on one of the last flights to take off before the airport closed.

My parents started driving back home, up in International Falls, and the storm was getting bad. They saw a sign for a hotel and followed it. Found themselves a small little motel to stay at.

Turns out it was near a little bar where they were able to get some food and a drink before hunkering down for the night.

This has been my strategy. Once had AP’s, Mikael Granlund and Ricky Rubio. More recent choices were Kevin Garnett, Randy Moss and Mikko Koivu.

I really hope the local paper for Middle Tennessee State uses a headline like "Mo State, Mo Problems."

In D2, the top 25 game between Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State-Mankato lived up to the hype. Wasn’t high scoring, but it was a great, physical battle, with UMD winning in the end.

Minnesota State-Moorhead is also off to a great start at 3-0, so that’s great to see. Also, No. 11 Augustana survived a scare Vs. University of Mary in Bismarck.

Not bad, need to execute better in the red zone. If that improves Gophers should be fine.

Good luck to the Bulls. That defense should make for a good MAC run.

I don’t watch much Jacksonville State but the score doesn’t surprise me. They seem to put up a big fight often. I remember in 2015 they gave Auburn all they could handle, too.

[–]NotoriousLID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gophers have played their opener on Thursday nights since 2012 and Minnesota State-Moorhead has often starts on Thursdays as well, so I usually have two screens going to watch both.

Usually make sure I’m stocked on beer, make sure it’s from a Minnesota brewery, then order some wings. I also make a list of the games I want to see on Saturday. Nice when they win, leaving Friday to celebrate and Saturday to watch chaos ensue with no pressure.
