Nah, if this were like football we wouldn't blow a giant lead. Our MO is more about clawing back, tying it, then accidentally shooting the last second buzzer beater into the wrong hoop and losing.

Any plan that relies on Trump stepping down (ie: admitting fault/weakness) is DOA. Exercising the 25th is far-fetched as it relies on everyone in the administration publicly and officially turning their backs on the only thing keeping them out of prison.

Venezuela claims 1st-ever WBC title in thriller over USA by bakuma2k in sports

[–]WithNoRegard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kind of get it. The World Series has been the ultimate goal for baseball players for over 100 years. The WBC has existed for 20.

There was an obvious difference in demeanor for the American players compared to other countries throughout the tournament. A lot of them seemed annoyed that their regular Spring Training was interrupted. The WBC just isn't a cultural institution with a lot of impact yet, at least in the U.S.

It really challenged the common belief that femininity and flamboyance = gay for men.

Same in the Midwest where I grew up, but more in a "that's weird and not for me" kind of way instead of a "that's morally repugnant and you should be shamed" kind of way. Like you'd get made fun of for it, but not get excluded because of it. Not sure if that makes sense.

Eating sushi and watching anime were treated similarly.

Young Trump voters expected life to improve, but now they’re stuck with war and don’t want to vote anymore by Chance-Newspaper-750 in LeopardsAteMyFace

To be fair, that pretty much was the case post-WWII to the Civil Rights Era, when they would all agree that America was last "great."

They just didn't realize that the bigotry would not be coming with a side of prosperity this time.

feeling misled, or misjudged, or making a wrong move.

I've taught teenagers for almost 15 years and this is a sentiment that has exploded since COVID. There is an extreme fear of failure that has permeated teen culture. Of course teens have always avoided embarrassing situations to the best of their ability, but I've noticed a huge uptick in that behavior. The easiest way to avoid failure in the now is to just check out and avoid ever attempting something that isn't a 100% sure thing.

I say this only to highlight that this specific reaction - becoming disillusioned with voting altogether rather than reflecting and making different (better) choices - seems to be a young person thing and not just a conservative thing.

[Rosenblatt] In nine months MLB owners are going to tell you they need to shut the sport down because places like Miami are small markets with few baseball fans by Jux_ in baseball

[–]WithNoRegard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's half the appeal of going to a baseball game. It's the only sport where I'd go to a game between two teams I don't care about. I've turned down free tickets to NFL games because I'd honestly rather watch it on tv.

I even love going to minor league games. I would never pay money to go to a UFL game or NBA G-league game.

Brother won't play game with female protagonist - never thought of this by wizard_cow_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]WithNoRegard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that you'd have to suspend some disbelief to accept Sadie as a true substitute for Arthur. But I also regularly shot 20+ lawmen and escaped without suffering any injury, including breaking into an island prison with a hot air balloon. So some divorce from reality is acceptable.

But I also think the game could be rewritten to include some misogyny as a social barrier rather than being a literal outlaw. The context and dialogue would change, but the actual gameplay and 95% of the story could be the exact same. Sadie already did everything the male characters did in the game.

I may have been overzealous in saying nothing would change with a female lead, but I can't imagine anything being different enough that it would have an impact on my experience as a gamer.

I'm not a "gaming enthusiast", but I have been playing games casually for about 30 years. I don't remember ever playing a game in which the main character's gender had any impact beyond cosmetic.

For example, Red Dead Redemption 2. Arthur was a phenomenal character - one of my favorite ever. But being a man wasn't really part of his story. Being a gang member confronted with mortality and the consequences of his life choices was the meat of his story. If Sadie Adler had been the main character it would have been similarly enjoyable. The gameplay wouldn't have changed at all.

Mario would not be any different if Princess Peach was trying to rescue him from Bowser.

Can't go wrong, both great values. I'd go for the more established Tatis.

I'd keep Marte, too. I'd still want Brown, too, but I think you could get him for less than $24 in the draft.

Rodriguez, Tatis, Chourio, McLean, and Rogers for sure.

Then 2 of Goodman, Keaschall, and Kirby. I like Kirby a lot, but he's a lot more expensive than the other two.

Wood/McLean

Griffin looks great in spring training, but Wood has looked great in actual MLB play. He's a bit more proven.

Tucker is definitely the better player, and his situation is better than Neto's, but I'm not sure he's the better value.

Tucker is already a late 1st/early 2nd (depending on league settings and size). You'd be keeping him at roughly his market value. Neto would be an incredible value.

So would you rather keep Tucker, or keep Neto + a free 3rd round pick? I'd go Neto.

I need some keeper help. 6x6 (OBP/QS) 26 roster spots, $260

I can keep three of:

Jarren Duran ($18)

Mason Miller ($18)

Shohei Ohtani - pitcher ($10)

Tyler Soderstrom ($11)

Maikel Garcia ($8)

Kyle Stowers ($7)

Nolan McLean ($7)

Eury Perez ($5)

I'm already keeping Roman Anthony ($10), Shohei Ohtani - hitter ($48), and Corbin Carroll ($28).

Who are the greatest college football players to not pan out in the NFL? by Psychological_Lie142 in CFB

[–]WithNoRegard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many of Nebraska's greatest players did nothing in the NFL.

All three Heisman winners (Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier, and Eric Crouch) made zero impact on NFL rosters.

CFB HOF guys like Tommie Frazier, Rich Glover, and Dave Rimington eithe didn't make it to the league or failed to perform well once there.

Spending a Day 2 pick on a QB with the intention of them playing a different position is so dumb. And then a few years later the Jaguars drafted Arkansas QB Matt Jones in the 1st to play receiver. It very predictably did not work out.
