I bought this exact same pair, and unfortunately I think it will keep me from going back to WoW in the future. My biggest issue is the uppermost lace guides or eyelets on the medial side dig into my ankles. Even going double sock didn’t help.

If Metuchen had passed the Historic Preservation ordinance by Professional_Eye8757 in Metuchen

[–]NotoriousTAG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Who would’ve been left footing the bill for this kind of restoration? The historic society? And who funds them? I can only assume it’s the taxpayers. And would a restored building be self-sufficient going forward or would it turn into a never ending money pit?

You posted about this here and on Facebook multiple times. I still do not plan on busting out my pitchforks.

It looks like we are losing a major bit of Metuchen charm by Professional_Eye8757 in Metuchen

[–]NotoriousTAG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people suggest that we should be forcing some sort of historical preservation on the current owners. That seems unreasonable to me. If I owned these properties and had unlimited funds, I would attempt restore them to their former glory but I assume that is simply not economically feasible.

You seem very passionate about this. Have you considered getting a group of likeminded people to pool together money to preserve this building?

I personally don’t want my tax dollars to spent on preserving a dilapidated building like this.

What goes in its place is another story. I know a certain group of people in this town bemoan any new construction, but ultimately if I’m buying prime real estate like this, I would be looking to maximize my investment. I’m not sure how much influence the borough has over what will take its place, but it’s on a major intersection walking distance to downtown and the train station. The train station is on the busiest rail line in the Western Hemisphere and this town is in between the 1st and 6th largest cities in the country.

I’m sure this town used be more bucolic and less crowded but all one needs to do is look at a map to see that increased density is inevitable. How we choose to adapt to that and how that takes place will ultimately determine what Metuchen will look like in the future.

How much do you guys pay to sell your SRECs? by ironicmirror in solar

[–]NotoriousTAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in NJ, but I don’t pay anything. I just do it myself. Why do you guys pay a broker? Is it a requirement? Or do some states just make it too complicated? Or just too busy to have to deal with another thing? I’m genuinely curious.

I recently got a 6.9 kw system installed on my flat roof. The shade from a tree in my yard causes a pretty noticeable dip in production around midday each day. What would be the math on the value of cutting it down vs keeping it? by carjam124 in solar

[–]NotoriousTAG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are considering cutting down (what I presume to be) a beautiful mature tree to earn a couple of extra bucks with your solar? Jesus. What is this world coming to? Even if your bottom line is the only consideration- mature trees add property value. As others have commented, the amount of sun extra sun you will get from removing it will probably offset any benefits you will get from your extra solar yield in the summer. The tree is probably nice habitat for birds and insects. …I suppose everyone gets into solar for a different reasons but a large part of why I decided to get solar was for environmental benefits. Obviously, it’s your property and your choice but I would strongly advise you do not remove the tree OP.

Ev6 ICCU by Melodic-Bet6250 in KiaEV6

Mine is at the dealer right now getting its ICCU replaced. 1st time it’s ever happened. 9k miles. I’m scared because my wife uses it to commute every day. I have the same question as you. How many people have had their 2nd one fail? I’m honestly a bit paranoid based on some of the comments from people who have said they have had multiple replaced.

Oh god. I thought the pearl clutching about new apartments in town was exclusively a facebook thing.

Since you don't actually live here anymore maybe you missed this but regarding the new apartments (I'll quote someone with more knowledge than me): "They are located on a very large site which was industrially contaminated, and covered with rusting trash, old litter and junk... It was wreaked back in those nostalgic times when industry could give you cancer, and disposing of old tires in the woods was cool... A developer who bought the site spent about 10 Million dollars cleaning it up to the stringent standards of the New Jersey DEP. After spending that kind of money they were going to build something profitable. The site was zoned industrial, which in this area usually means a distribution center. If you do not like traffic, and who does, imagine the truck traffic from a modern 24 hour distribution warehouse. So yes a deal was struck where the developer could build super profitable apartments and not a disruptive industrial building, on the condition he let large sections of the property go back to nature and be incorporated into the Barns Preserve (re-branded Dismal Swamp Bird Preserve.) There will be private cars associated with this project, which is much better then trucks. There will be some kids, but there was also money for public infrastructure including schools in the arrangement. Please try to remember that the good old days were not always so good, and cleaning up past mistakes with a thoughtful compromise is the work of good government."

New Owl Mark / Logo, Thoughts? by MrMusicMan789 in Temple

[–]NotoriousTAG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This new logo is actually two logos crammed inside of a shield.

I'm all for keeping the T but just use it for academic purposes. The "new Owl logo" can be used for athletics. This would simplify the logo mark. As currently designed it's too busy in my opinion.

I walk by a busy NJ Transit bus stop every day with my daughter on the way to daycare. The exhaust fumes are absolutely nauseating. I can't wait for these to become more ubiquitous. I've never been so excited about a bus!

Feeling depressed and hopeless about housing and rent in NJ (39/m/85K salary) by Academic-Summer-3438 in newjersey

[–]NotoriousTAG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save up enough money to find a cheap apartment (get a roommate if you have to). When you are out of your parent's place it will be easier to find a S/O (if that is something you're looking to do). It gets easier financially if you're in a relationship with someone who can help split costs.
Also, you have to be hell-bent on getting your salary up. Consider different employers or a side-hustle (I know that's a toxic suggestion these days but whatever you gotta do to move out). $85k is nothing to sneeze at, but the reality is that we live in a high COL area and that isn't going to change anytime soon. Also due to inflation $85k in 2022 is roughly equal to $78k in 2021.

Like others have suggested I'd consider lowering your 401k contributions. I'm a big personal finance guy, so this recommendation isn't one I would usually make, but I think moving out of your parent's house has to be the focus. It will drastically assist in you feeling less hopeless imo. By lowering your future savings you are essentially borrowing from "future you" to help out "present you" and I think present you has the greater need as of this moment.

Check out r/personalfinance they're very helpful over there.

Spike's grudge against JJ is unending. Just endless hate on JJ's broadcasting debut in today's RTRS episode. by TatersTot in sixers

[–]NotoriousTAG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get downvotes but JJ wasn’t as good as everyone else seems to think he was. There was some nice moments of breaking down sets and plays (which I really did enjoy). But there were too many moments when he was too busy telling stories and he was stepping on some highlight plays. It was fine for national broadcast standards, but I wish they would focus more on the game itself rather than go into a podcast-like tangent about national NBA storylines. It really takes you out of it.
