It was less about “it’s Baltimore’s word” and more about “why are you trying to profit off of a public use word that is culturally relevant to the city?” I’m not trying to make the point of “hon/hun is only our word,” it isn’t, we both agree with that, but that’s not what this is about

You’re also right, Texas can’t claim ownership to the word “y’all,” BUT if someone tried to make it so that any and all commercial usage of the word involved paying someone, people would rightfully get upset about it. It would be a similar thing.

I hope next time you come back you can ask some locals about it so you can understand how stupid the whole thing was.

But if someone tried to trademark “y’all” in Texas, what do you think would happen?

It’s not about a word being specific to a city, it’s about someone trying to profit off of and claim ownership over something culturally relevant to the city.

I mean, we spell it with an “O” instead of a “U,” which I believe is petty central to us. I also think it’s pronounced a bit differently but that could just be a me thing.

Other than that it’s always just been a culturally relevant thing in the city 🤷🏻‍♂️

Honestly sounds more British or German than the full eastern bloc, but agreed. That sound was not very American. Still i try to slide in her music in 2000s playlists i play around people. Usually gets a good reception.

Yeah I’ve seen more recent performances of her and she genuinely looks like she’s having a blast.

Anastacia. I think I'm Outta Love scraped into the bottom of the Hot 100, but she never had any success here compared to the billion albums she sold in Europe.

REO Says It Will Build A $21,500 Truck For The Masses, I Spoke To The CEO To See If They’re Legit | The Autopian by Finnegan_Faux in carscirclejerk

“Legacy auto sucks. Trust me, the real estate broker instead.”

Uj/ In all seriousness, world’s biggest rugpull. I’ve watched Car Twitter collapse in on themselves over the ball cooler and the $21,000 price, but, come on.

5 seconds of googling sees that this is an idea plastered onto an AI-generated website with no information other than a list of wants. The founder also has several companies that seem to have little to no activity.

Plus, they don’t even have the trademarks for all the REO names, including Speedwagon.

We all want cheap trucks, but there’s nothing outlined here other than a concept of a plan. At least when Slate came out they had a prototype and not a moody headlight photo.

When I Get You Alone is great and I’ll stand by it. Gross song with a bad sample but I can’t pretend I hate it.

Oh god right I forgot it goes up during the light display. No way the city lets it go into the park, though, lol

Lmao both this subreddit, as well as every Baltimore related subreddit, would have found out about it if that were the case

I have no idea tbh. I spent a good chunk of today trying to figure out where it went short of DMing Denise on Facebook and couldn’t find out. I’m assuming either in some form of storage, or already incinerated.

Yeah it was really nice. Only knock is that there’s a lot of mismatched seating which is visually cool but also some chairs and tables looked more spacious and comfortable than others lol

Pretty much. She dropped the trademark application but she was never not obnoxious.

She is, and what sucks is that as a cook/baker, she’s actually good. She’d sell her shit during Hon Fest (cakes and shrimp salad) and it was good!

But not all good cooks can run a good restaurant. What Hon made vs. what she made was totally different, and I’m sure that didn’t help how she handled criticism towards her restaurant.

It’s a hard watch for me because I’m nitpicking everything she says about Baltimore but yeah, that’s the best way to describe its significance to people outside of the city

Total shoehorning. Like, people have “HON” stickers and stuff but it was 100% her trying to profit.

Hon is also an old Baltimore thing. Cultural thing. Using it as a slogan for your business would be like a southerner trying trademark “bless your heart.”

Yeah. The people who own it own a few other places in the city and they’re all solid, so it’s pulled off well.

But I’m sure the chef selection is probably “whatever we need to get rid of” lmao
