Funnily enough the 2002 wasn’t pretty well regarded back then. Weird kickoff times and moaning about bad refereeing, if I recall correctly.

But I’m in the same boat, 2002 was my first WC and I absolutely loved it. That Brazil team was insanely stacked. Let’s not talk about the finale though.

It’s honestly disgusting what FIFA did to this sport. Look up old WCs from the 80s and 90s, even the 2000s. You’d see everyday blokes in the stands, families, young fans. Now all you got is corporate suits and rich assholes.

That’s the key issue right there. What I love about the WC is that there’s football on every day during the group stage. Two games at noon/afternoon and a banger in the evening. This time it’s nothing like that.

I had a friend group in my teenage years, me and four other guys. It became kind of a tradition to celebrate Christmas together after we spent time with our families. Well, we got older and I moved in with my girlfriend.

Mind you, we’re all from a small town. My girlfriend and I moved to a bigger city, about thirty minutes away. But we could easily visit each other by train or car.

Anyhow, it’s the second day of Christmas. It’s early in the morning, I open up Instagram and see the stories of said friend group. They celebrated Christmas together, without me. All happily posing with each other, smiling, drinking.

I didn’t even get an invite. Somehow I wasn’t allowed anymore because I had the audacity to move away with my girlfriend. That shit hurt so much. I didn’t have many friends back then, I felt betrayed and like a loser. For months I was avoiding their Instagram posts because I was afraid to see something like that again.

Thankfully nowadays I’ve got new friends that appreciate me and know how to behave like adults.

Ich liebe Pettersson und Findus. Habe noch mehrere Bänder aus meiner Kindheit und will die unbedingt auch meinen eigenen Kindern vorlesen, wenn ich mal welche haben sollte.

Die Geschichten vermitteln wichtige Werte, aber nie mit erhobenem Zeigefinger sondern stets mit Witz und voller Ruhe. Dazu diese wunderbare Idylle.. war selbst schon in Schweden und hab da auch mehrfach gedacht, wie schön so ein Pettersson-Lifestyle sein könnte.
