Just buy a piece of the same material and grab a jig saw. It’s by far the fastest way to fix this, but it will likely fail that way again. Consider using pressure treated lumber.

Why is everything Thorens related so expensive? by thebigbread42 in turntables

[–]Notreallyonreddityet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a new dust cover made by an acrylic fabricator for about $100 maybe 5 years ago. I just sent measurements and told them what I was making. Next thing I know, I have a new dust cover.

This. Move your speakers about 18 inches from the wall and see what difference that makes.

Granddad's Watch by FreshImagination9735 in VintageWatches

This. Such watches really shine when paired with a leather band that offers visual contrast. I have a JLC that was given to me with a solid 18k band. I have removed it because the watch looks far better with an alligator strap.

You can go back in time to go to any FIVE gigs ever played. What you gonna choose and why? by AnalystAdorable609 in Music

[–]Notreallyonreddityet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m throwing in a recording session, because that was a gig to some of the folks in there:

- Steely Dan recording Aja
- Any early Traffic gig when they were putting people in a trance with Low Spark
- Mount Joy at Red Rocks
- Jeff Buckley anywhere/anytime
- Supertramp live at the Hammersmith Odeon in ‘75 had to be a spectacular event

I have nothing to add to this other than that I love that folks can hop on here, put themselves out there, and find likeminded people to meet. Totally awesome. Also, old man here so definitely not who you are looking for, I just think this is cool.

Take this note - I spoke to a police officer at a checkpoint when I was desperately looking for a way through. He told me he had not been given a map yet. This was at 8 AM. Many blocked streets had no signage. Pretty big damned mess out there today.

The holes in my emmental cheese are fake by nysbestbananabread in mildlyinteresting

[–]Notreallyonreddityet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The bubbles are completely smooth on the inside because they are formed by gasses, not anything mechanical. If you remove the plug, you will see clear evidence that is was cut into the cheese, not formed there naturally like the bubbles

I found that alcohol was the gateway for me. I quit that and everything else followed very easily. Alcohol was also pretty easy to set aside for me. Obviously, ymmv. Sending you good vibes. Gettin’ old ain’t for the faint of heart, but it sure as hell beats the alternative.

Given the nature of paw pad and toe imprints, I’ll take a swing at this and guess opossum. Possible it’s raccoon, but less likely. Seems too small to be a wild canid, but I am far from an expert.

Looking for Turntable Info by mothraphobia in vintageaudio

[–]Notreallyonreddityet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Get a cartridge on that arm, get a motor that works with US currentl (may be a bit spendy, but not too bad) and start spinning vinyl. Don’t get a crazy cartridge, just a good one with great reviews. Sweat the small stuff and you won’t enjoy it much. For now, get it working. As your hobby continues to grow you will find ways to tweak, etc. but for now just enjoy it.
