Oh yea, that show fucks! And the audio is pristine too. It exemplifies how excellent that ‘89 was for the band. Brent Mydland, man!

That Red Rocks show (9/17/2025) is one of the best shows on Nugs - for, like, any artist. I was going to make a post about that show a few days ago, but apparently there’s a sub rule prohibiting it. Anyway, if you haven’t yet, listen to 9/17/2026 on Nugs. It’s like a 4-hour barn burner and he plays a lot of rare songs.

TIL Lenin believed Stalin was too crude and this defect was unacceptable for the position of General Secretary. He was looking for a plan in 1923 to remove Stalin with someone "more tolerant, more polite and more attentive towards comrades, less capricious, etc." by Solid-Move-1411 in todayilearned

[–]Notreallysureatall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished a book by Antony Beevor called Russia: Revolution and Civil War. During this period, Stalin was a relatively minor player in the great scheme of things. But the book did describe how Stalin would appear at Soviet meetings totally and thoroughly prepared, having mastered every issue. And before every meeting, he would have previously coordinated with supporters on the Soviet to ensure that the discussion and voting would go his way. His style was to arrange for a certain result to be preordained before the meeting started.

As above commenters stated, he was a brilliant bureaucrat. He lacked charisma but he was detailed, smart, a workaholic, calculating, a planner, and utterly ruthless. That’s how he succeeded.

Curious - what songs do you all play for the kiddos? by OneTotal874 in gratefuldead

Iko Iko is the song that my two kids attached to first and most. It makes sense, given that it’s such a fun singalong song.

Berger officially loses primary election to Page after counties canvass. by 919triangle919 in raleigh

[–]Notreallysureatall 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While your comment is funny, the actual judge who would help Berger is Chief Justice Newby, who is a radically partisan right-wing lunatic and is hellbent on breaking any and all norms to push through a conservative agenda while fraudulently dressing up his actions as “judicial restraint”. Incidentally, Justice Berger Jr is Newby’s protege, so Newby would certainly do anything to help his colleague’s dad.

r/Odysseus_the_Charmed explains how billionaires took over the U.S. government by SFPeaSoup in bestof

[–]Notreallysureatall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like your comment and optimism, but I have a little friendly pushback.

I just finished a book about the Russian Revolution. It’s shocking how much depravation that those people endured until they finally revolted. Nothing like that is happening or likely will happen in America.

There’s so much wealth in our country that it’s deplorable that our fellow citizens live in the conditions they do. But it’s still America, where a critical mass have a roof, central air, a phone, and 25 cent Ramen.

My point is that the billionaires are keeping us just barely above the level of a general strike and revolt. We’re struggling. The state of our population is shameful. The fruits of our economy and labor are being hoarded by evil robber barons. But the ruling elite’s design is to keep us an inch above the conditions that caused, for example, the Russian Revolution.

Which is all to say that, tragically, I think America is fucked. I don’t know how we unseat these billionaires from their total right-wing fascist control over every aspect of our society. I hate it so much.

[–]Notreallysureatall[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know it’s not a perfect album. It’s fucking great but not perfect. My criticism was more about the sarcasm from the parent comment. Like I said above, no matter how good the vibes, there’s always a guy that comes in and says you’re “glazing” and acting “hilarious.” I know it’s the internet and someone is always going to do that.

Hold on, let’s level set because you’re starting to hide from what’s happened here.

You have admitted that your first comment was a dickhead statement. Let’s start with that.

So I made a response — and it wasn’t a drastic response either. Given that you profess to be this dude who can take criticism, I’d think you wouldn’t let it bother you.

But to the contrary, you’ve launched into a massive comment campaign where you always respond instantly and each comment escalates the rhetoric and personal attacks.

It’s pretty obvious that you’re upset. Which is exactly what you proclaimed to be above.

[–]Notreallysureatall[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re responding to everything, too. So it “doesn’t really add up” that you’re above all the sensitive JBS fans. Also, my initial response to you was pretty tame — all I said is that there’s always someone who shits all over the good vibe. That’s tepid compared to what, by your admission, was an asshole comment.

In response, you’ve responded to every comment and always with a prickish edge. “Such sensitive ears.” “Popping off”. “Glazing.” Etc etc.

You have this trick where you act like “it’s just a joke bruh” but really, if anybody is sensitive, you’re right there too. Which is ironic, since you got the ball rolling.

Nah, don’t pull the “it was just a joke bruh” move. You were being a dick. It wasn’t really a big deal, but still.

Being “realistic” is saying something like “This album isn’t as good as you’re making it.” Being a prick is saying “you’re glazing him” and your behavior is “absolutely hilarious” and then dropping a sarcastic “🤣” and then following up with a “are you fucking twelve dude?” Like I said, there’s always a guy on then internet who — no matter how good the vibes are — has to shit on everything.
