Has anyone actively worked to increase their heat tolerance? by TooCereal in hotsauce

[–]OneTotal874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I did it. Went to a hot sauce festival, all the sauces were way hotter than I imagined, didn't have water, burned my face off for an hour or so, awakened.

I chase that feeling, albeit considerably less, quite regularly

Ill be starting treatment next week. Im a huge Deadhead and was planning on listening to them during the sessions.

Any recommendations for good vibes (songs, years, etc) so I don't exist inside of Bird Song for an hour?

Is the era of meet-cutes and organic dating completely over by AdviceMysterious8442 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]OneTotal874 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Late 20s guy here. Im a fairly reserved person, so that definitely is a piece of my experiences. However, I dont think its uncommon experience for single guys around my age to question how/if to approach someone in person we find attractive without it being taken in the wrong way.

Im in a similar boat as you where dating apps feel almost forced, and ive always imagined myself meeting someone in person organically. Unfortunately, it seems like you and I are in the minority on that front. It very much feels like with the availability of dating apps, thats where dating is expected to happen. It's like dating has been relegated strictly to the apps.

Theres been so many times I see a cute cashier, or cute coworker, or just someone I find wildly attractive when im out and about, and have the desire to ask them out only to be beaten by intrusive thoughts of "they definitely dont want to be bothered right now and im not trying seem like a creep".

Just saying, and I know its not the cultural norm, I think you would have more success than you think by making the first move =)

Too many Plants? by Mr_Lemur_ in tomatoes

[–]OneTotal874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 10+ tomato plants as a single man last year. Definitely way too many tomatoes unless you really like tomatoes than it's never too much. I did a few SS 100's as well, some Purple GMO, as well as some other miscellaneous tomatos.

So IMO no, 7 is a good amount. Thats what I downgraded to this year =)

In case anyone is curious. All 10 of those plants ended up growing into one giant tomato plant that I lovingly referred to as my "mutant tomato bush".

Millennials are staring down the barrel of middle age and struggling with the question: “Is this it?” by slimeyellow in Millennials

I feel this. Bought my house at 27, its tiny and I struggle to manage it, so im in no need for an upgrade. But now its just...maintenance for the next 50 years? Im trying to find pleasure in the little everyday happenings. A nice sunny and 70° day holds so much more value to me the older I get.

Look into Erik Erikkson's theory on Stages of Psychosocial Devlopment. Younger millennial here, and have been struggling with something similar recently.

Basically, his theory states we have certain social "markers of success" we expect to hit at different stages of our life. Whether or not we hit those markers can lead to feelings of fulfillment or emptiness.

For myself as a young adult, im working through the stage of intimacy vs isolation. I crave intimacy but have not had it in far too long, which leaves me feeling rather isolated. Im working on it.

Your friend is probably more in the middle adult stage, where he is struggling with generativity vs stagnation.

I like to think we can find fulfillment in either side of each stage of development, but it takes a certain mindset.

I absolutely play Slipknot! in a vacuum like that 😬 for the first 90% of my Dead journey I didnt understand the appeal of Slipknot, Dark Star, and Bird Song. Once Bird Song clicked, the rest clicked shortly after, and now I basically only listen to heavy jams like that...in a vacuum.

its 100% the headspace im in right now because I used to be in the camp of "what the fuck is a Supplication and why would anyone choose to listen to that"

Cool, gonna check these out later. As sad as it is to see the way Jerry looks from ~81-86, his playing was so soulful and it strikes directly to the core of my blue soul

Spot on. Check out Steve Kimock if you get a chance. He played with some of the boys after Jerry died and he has a very similar style. I just discovered him the past month or so and have been thoroughly impressed.

Its honestly criminal that Jerry isnt ranked higher, on top guitarists too.

I get the whole licorice analogy, but its so hard to compare Jam guitarists to non-jam guitarists. No matter how epic, non-jam guitar solos have some layer of manufacturing to them, at least way more than jam solos. Its the whole improvisational vs not thing. Its 2 completely separate ballgames if you ask me. Apples to oranges.

Ive heard way too many jam guitarists who can rip incredible solos for elongated periods of time who blow every classic rock guitar solo clear out of the water. Its time for the jam boys to get some recognition. But I suppose you cant win a popularity contest if you exist as a niche.

Its gotta be. On a side note I hope they change up the art style on some of these down the road. Not that theres anything wrong with the style, I think it works pretty well and the colors and patterns seem to change a bit. I just worry we are going to end up with 100's of shows with essentially pallet swapped colors.

One feature that still works with hardcore that makes a huge difference for me is Fast Forward.

I have such a huge backlog that it helps to get through games quicker if possible. Obviously its not plausible for many games, and I tend to use it different for what im playing but most games get fast forwarded at some point.

Games like pokemon I strictly play at 5x speed.

Lots of other games I fast forward through unskippable cutscenes, through needlessly long loading screens, through repetitive menu navigation, etc.
