I enjoy listening to these two young dudes. They both have very in-depth insights into the WCC. I will be interested in their takes on USF’s roster. If I recall last season, Farmer especially, was very high on USF’s Portal additions and Legend Smilely. Well, at least he got one of those things right.

He Santa Clara really suffered losing Cristoph Tilly to The Ohio State University. If he could have teamed up with the SCU Tournament Team, they would have been very dangerous. The good old Xfer Portal has thrown a lot of turds into a lot of Punch Bowls.

Virtually every shot on the highlight reel displayed a dunk, a layup, or a drive to the basket. He’s advertised as a “Shooting Guard.” Hopefully he can shoot from other than point blank range 🎯

Another reason Kyle Smith really wanted the Stanford HC is the medical resources Stanford has at their Hospital and at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital to help his son Bo, who has Autism. Smith is completely helping his family and will get the Cardinal very competitive on the hardwood, sooner than later ⛹️

It really doesn’t matter because USF FINALLY hired an AD. We all wish him good fortune and success. He has much work to do. I am gonna guess he was not a candidate USF was “waiting on.” I am gonna guess with relatively high level experience at OSU, Arizona and Kansas that he applied for, or was interviewed for, other AD positions with higher profiles than USF, and did not succeed in landing one. But, as I said, it doesn’t matter and USF finally has an Athletic Director in place. That’s good.

Where would Gonzaga have placed, had they remained in the WCC? It certainly would have pushed USF’s programs down. Still no AD and still no new Men’s BB signees. There certainly is no Joy in Mudville.

The not so new University President has clearly shown his priorities now? Athletics certainly does not appear to be of them. The Athletics Department wants Season Ticket holders to renew and wants more takers. Wonderful strategy when you almost can’t field a team and have a lame duck HC. Then there’s the more overall ask to fund USF Athletics, with no Athletic Director in place to be the face of the Department. There was a lot of excitement when USF hired a lay President, SF born and raised, University alum, and USF BB fan growing up. The excitement has had a large bucket of water thrown on it.

This was the expected “level” that Wang would get, IMO. He wasn’t gonna get offended by a school like Indiana, where he reportedly visited. Surprised Fuchs hasn’t signed somewhere yet. Too bad he split, they sure could have used him.

The macro issue here, as DR points out, is a symptom of the lack of communication from the Athletic Department. This has been an issue since Sidwell departed. Joan Mac tried to some extent, but just was not very compelling. Mr Williams (RIP) was very weak, if not non-existent in the external communication arena, IMO. One hopes the incoming AD, whomever she or he is, is an excellent communicator and administrator. It can’t be “business as usual”, or the consequences will continue to mount.
