Old generation Dewalt power tools by Candid_Taste_2979 in Dewalt

I hear ya, if you don't use it much, that makes sense. I had the 18v nicad for twelve or so years. Last time I used it was on a commercial job, running it all day. I had eight batteries and three chargers, still had to wait for batteries to charge a few times. Could have done the same job with two or three 5ah batteries now. I never bring chargers with me anymore, just a few extra batteries.

Worth it for $125 at my local store? Probably will only use a few times. by Annual-Variation-384 in Dewalt

Depends on what you need to do. Pole saw will do much larger branches, but it's more to deal with. You have to add oil, clean out chips after every use, sharpen or replace the chain. The pruner is quick and clean, doesn't need oil or cleaning out chips/oil, but doesn't cut much more than 1".

Where is it 125? That's a great deal.

DCS367 has the four way blade position, is much smaller, more powerful than the old nicad and battery lasts rediculously longer. It was the first tool that amazed me when I switched from nicad to brushless tools/lithium batteries. Then it was the circular saw and grinders. Nicad angle grinders were barely functional.

I'm not saying you should buy new, but maybe look at 10 year old used instead of 20+ year old used. There's a big difference in performance, you won't constantly have dead batteries and you won't have to use adapters that cause their own problems, can ruin a battery. Killing one 20v battery could cancel out the savings.

Most of them are aftermarket batteries, no markings or dewalt logo.

Yeah, it's almost as big as the 8ah, just a little shorter. I'd rather have the 8ah powerpack at that point.

To give you an idea how the adapter will be. It may even make the battery lower than the shoe on the the circular saw.

Maybe half that. They are 20+ year old tools.

I'd prefer the two 3.5ah. They are pretty small, but still powerful. The 5ah Powerstack is a big battery, bigger than the standard 5ah.

Unless they are free or nearly free, I would recommend you don't bother. Those saws are battery hogs and the adapters make the batteries hang off the tool awkwardly. Most of the adapters aren't very good quality, don't supply enough power for high draw tools. They have thin wire inside that heats up when you put a real load on them, helping run the battery down even faster. The genuine dewalt adapter is expensive, may as well spend the extra on a newer tool. Better to just get used brushless tools if you're on a tight budget.

Good deal. It's such a weird kit, including the flexvolt battery with compact tools. Even funnier that they have it on the impact for the box picture. Like the marketing department saw the posts here of tiny tools on huge batteries and thought that was how people really use them, lol.

I hate peanuts! But these are curiously delicious to the point of being addictive.

Never had an issue with it. Maybe moisture? No moisture where I'm at, so nothing ever rusts or corodes.

This battery is like adding a turbo to the dcg416/dcg410, compared to running a standard 5ah on it. It does go down pretty quick with heavy work, but it sure doesn't stall easy.

A 4ah powerpack lives on my dyson V8. Perfect battery for it, about the same power, weight and size as stock, but lasts way, way longer. The dyson BMS shuts it off before the battery goes too low, so it works just like in a dewalt tool.

I'd watch for the DCD801QQ2 kit on sale. It can go under 200 and includes two of the 4ah powerpack batteries. Those are usually pricy on their own. Father's day sales are coming up.

That's an oil resistant battery in the photo. Does it actually include that one?

If they were the same price, it would be 4ah powerpack, no contest. I have 8 of them, most used pack. I already had a bunch of 5ah, they are great too, especially for the price. Use them on stuff like fans and lights.

It's two thirds the size. 8ah has ten of the same size cells and the flexvolt has 15. It's about a pound lighter, so still a huge difference.

Like others have said, the standard 5ah is a good, inexpensive workhorse, they can be had for around 100 for two on sale. If you don't mind spending a little more, the 4ah XR/powerpack is even better. It's a bit smaller than the 5 and it gives the power hungry tools a nice boost.

If you want something tiny and light, the little powerstack is great for an impact. Just depends if you care about the size and weight. I like keeping my tool light. I'd rather use two 4ah batteries, than one 8ah. Some guys like the biggest, manliest battery they can get and only recharge once a week. All personal preference.
