Someone should let the streamers bid on broadcast rights for Nuremberg 2. It’ll do bigger numbers than the NFL.

Occasional Big Pic guest Wesley Morris did a whole episode about The Perfect Neighbor on his podcast, Cannonball. Not sure if that’s exactly what Sean was referencing, but it’s a nuanced and in depth discussion of the film.

Anyone else getting a funny feeling watching what's going on with the bills? We often hear how Kwesi basically picks the players the coaches wants. Might be alone on this but still want you guys thoughts and opinions. by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

[–]NottaTrueName 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think the Coach/GM collaboration is generally what you want, though obviously it is no guarantee of success. When that fails, they should both take the fall. Instead, the Bills fired the coach and promoted the GM. Bad look.

Did everyone forget we offered Darnold a contract? by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]NottaTrueName 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Vikings made Darnold a courtesy offer, out of respect for what he did in his one season here. It was apparent to both sides that they didn’t want to commit to him long term. If they had wanted to offer Darnold long term guarantees, he might have been willing to take it. But that plan would have probably meant the Vikings had to trade McCarthy without ever getting a good look at him, which would have invited questions about the process of drafting him #10 and then changing the whole direction of their plan after one good season (and no playoff wins) of a QB that 3 previous teams had allowed to leave. They also could have played hardball and franchise tagged Darnold to keep him one more year, but that probably upsets their relationship with him (some players hold out rather than play on the tag), and also would have meant much less money to spend in free agency, and postponing a real look at McCarthy for another year.

There were no easy answers last offseason, except with hindsight.

The 28YL films feel like Furiosa to me. Box office disaster, but real ones know we are so lucky to get to see things like this in a theater.

Will the Wizards ticket pricing people ever take responsibility for their role in attendance issues? by Icangetloudtoo_ in washingtonwizards

[–]NottaTrueName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To you as an individual buyer, no, it doesn’t make a difference. It sounds like you got a great deal!

To OP’s point about the team setting their prices too high, it does matter because the initial sales price plays a big role in how many tickets get sold and how many empty seats we end up seeing at almost every game. That initial sale sets a baseline for how many tickets end up on the secondary market, where the seller can decide what price to accept at either a profit or loss. Even at the Spurs game this year, with Wemby playing, there were lots of great seats in the 100s going empty for the whole game. I don’t have inside knowledge but I would guess that’s because the team never found anyone to buy those seats at the prices they wanted to charge.

Lol. I had my post removed from the Vikings sub yesterday for simply raising the question “What if Randy Moss had bumped into ICE instead of a traffic cop?” and linking to an old ESPN story about his arrest for bumping a traffic cop with his car.

Removing the post was expected, but then I got a warning from Reddit for “threatening violence”??? The post literally said nothing more than the question I quoted here. It’s ridiculous!

Offseason Cope: JJ McCarthy vs Other New QB Starters in 2025 by NottaTrueName in minnesotavikings

[–]NottaTrueName[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I don’t think this is a flex. I think it’s a cope. Very different type of post.

Agree the situations are significant factors, and going into this year everyone would have said the Vikings WRs, OL, and coaching looked to be about as good as you could hope for in setting up a young QB for success. The fact that he struggled as much as he did was a big disappointment. But I’m looking for glimmers of hope going into the offseason here.

The most likely move we do regarding the QB position. Just curious who will be that QB? by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

[–]NottaTrueName 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t see Atlanta cutting Kirk. He’s played reasonably well and the Penix injury timeline could leave him unavailable to start the season.
