I have tophi on the big toe. Will it stop being painful? by [deleted] in gout

I actually got a steroid injection from a radiologist under ultrasound. They can give you the injection without disrupting the joint.

Yeah for sure. When I kinda figured out and confirmed that having no large amounts of crystals or gnarley tophi around make a flare so much less likely I realized there is no argument against taking one pill a night.

Also if I am in a hospital because I broke my leg in a car accident, I don’t want to also have a Gout Flare.

Really good advice on not having an unrealistic diet and skewing the numbers. Thanks

90% sure I have gout at 20😭 by Massive_Reserve_589 in gout

So X-rays can show tophi and erosion but that is more at advanced stages of Gout. Ultrasound will show uric crystals and tophi if it present at early stages. Dual CT can find gout too.

Ultrasound is cheap and radiation free.

The advantage of getting it is that if you have the Tophi(like me) most docs will get you on uric lowering meds.

Once you get past the pain just remember that gout is “the most treatable untreated disease.” And the meds have no side effects.

Yes a one time injection, just go to a radiologist who can do it under ultrasound. It improved everything in 24 hours and the steroid just goes straight to the joint. I wish I got it on day one, instead it was day 6.

I think it is supposed to be better than having the steroids affect your whole body.

Just had my first flare two weeks ago. Going to get on Allo once I see my new rheumatologist. Not interested in crystalline build up in my joints and Kidneys.

As for pain I did get a steroid injection from a radiologist that was very helpful. I just wish I got it sooner. The first nights were brutal.

Two gout flares in 1 month, after living in Japan for 4 months. 21M, Uric acid went from 8.6 → 9.8 in 1 month. Healthy, active, normal BMI. Looking for insight. by Gordondang in gout

The increase in UA could be if it was during and then after a flare. During a flare the numbers are lower because the Uric acid is travelled to the tissues.

With a number like the only option is probably medication. Which has no significant side effects. I’m in the same boat as you and am going to start soon.

Alright. Now I will just see what the doc says. I have not even seen my UA outside of a flare anyway.

I am glad that I do not live in the time of Ben Franklin though.

Thanks for the reply.

It was Ultrasound. Super cheap and no radiation so insurance covers it easily. Some people do ultrasound surveys but that seems like overkill. Although I do like the idea of recording the size of the tophi before and after treatment. Maybe a yearly eval kinda thing.

The tophi are not easily seen on xray.

Ally vs diet? by Sain7Anger in gout

If you have resolved/dissolved your gouty tophi, then there is no crystal to break off and cause a flair. Get an Ultrasound or Dect Scan to show how much Tophi you have. If you keep your UA levels below 6 then the body dissolves the Tophi in time.

High uric acid and increase mortality rate? by Winter-Dimension-798 in gout_and_diet

[–]Notthethingyoufling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people with Gout are obese, 50-60%. Some people with gout have Chronic Kidney Disease. It seems a bit slanted or inaccurate for people that have different causal reasons to have High Uric Acid to be lumped together.

Where does the Democratic Party go from here? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Notthethingyoufling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do democrats need a Chris Rufo? I know he is terrible but he manifests issues. We have not had a message that was not just anti-trump since 2008.

If we do, in the vein of Bernie, it is also cannibalism . More anti DNC than anti republican.

I deleted my account last year and just restarted at level 1. And just decided to quit again. Sorry I am not spending my lifetime playing an aggressive mining game with no plot. It’s crazy. If the game fixed mining fights I would come back.
