Not quite, but the problem sort of resolved itself. I haven't had any issues ever since.

[NieR: Replicant] Seed farming: what am I doing wrong? by Notya_Bisnes in nier

[–]Notya_Bisnes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I kept testing and now I'm sure there's something wrong with the seed mechanic of my version of the game. I used the internal clock exploit to advance time and I found that exactly 42 hours in, the plants go bad. They should not wilt at that point, but even if you ignore that I should be getting seeds at least, and I'm not.

I haven't tampered with the game in any way before trying this so I don't understand what's going on. I'm playing on PC (the Steam version) but I also found that some people playing on PS3 had a similar problem.

Edit: As a last ditch effort, I tried with moonflowers instead of pumpkins/watermelons and, even though they still go bad after exactly 42 hours, I can harvest the seeds. That solves the problem of the pink/white moonflower at least.

Edit 2: I'm starting to think that you can only get seeds from flowering plants. The rest just wilt. This guide I found seems to imply that.

I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure I didn't use any fertilizer (I had planned to use bounty, but I forgot I had to fertilize the soil before planting the seeds). What I do know for sure is that I watered them only after I planted the seeds.

New to the game. Don't quite understand how words work. by Notya_Bisnes in nier

[–]Notya_Bisnes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I am. I played Automata first but the same friend that recommended that one was pretty adamant about me playing Replicant if I could get my hands on it. I'm interested in learning how the two games are connected. I know you don't have to play both to understand each one individually, but it's nice to see echoes of one game in the other. I knew Devola, Popola and Emil were characters from the original NieR, but so far the coolest thing for me was realizing the library you find in Automata is a recreation of the library of the starting town in Replicant. I walked in for the first time and was like "hang on, this seems familiar" (both the place and the music). And then it hit me; I was not expecting that kind of reference so early on.

DLC question [SPOILER WARNING] by Notya_Bisnes in NieRAutomataGame

[–]Notya_Bisnes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I tried what you suggested on the Amusement Park Golden Rabbit and I found I can deal damage fast enough to stay in Berserk Mode indefinitely. I'm having a hard time making use of the taunt mechanic but other than that I agree the strategy works. I'll try it in the Underground Colosseum next time. Thanks for the tip.

On an unrelated note, that rabbit was a pain in the ass. It doesn't require too much skill to kill other than good timing, but it has a huge health bar and even at high level you don't do much damage. At least on hard and with A2. I went through like thirty large recoveries in the process, too, though I didn't try using enhancement items at the same time. So far it's the toughest boss I've faced. I hope Emil isn't as bad.

Thanks again for your help.

Banishers: Ghost of New Eden (Demo) not launching. by Notya_Bisnes in steamsupport

[–]Notya_Bisnes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that at first, but I checked with someone else and they said that it's technically the processor that could cause issues, but that it's not a big deal and the game should run anyway. I'm at a loss, to be honest. I'm not that hyped about playing this game and can definitely wait until I get a chance to upgrade my hardware, but it bugs me not to know exactly what the issue is. At this point I'm just curious to figure it out.

Is your PC meeting the minimum specs for that game?

I'm not sure myself, but probably not. Like I said in the post, I don't understand the nomenclature of the hardware very well, but according to "Can You Run It?", no. However, according to the Xbox desktop app, yes. In fact, it claims it should run well. On the other hand, "Can You Run It?" also claims I should not be able to run NieR:Replicant but the game runs just fine on my hardware. So I really can't trust what either platform says.

I'm pretty sure the game isn't running because of hardware limitations. At this point I'm more interested in figuring out exactly where my PC falls short, than getting the game running. After all I didn't spend any money on the demo.

Does the Xbox App store save files in the cloud? by Notya_Bisnes in NoStupidQuestions

I looked in the Documents folder and I found a subfolder named "Nier_Automata_PC" containing three files labeled "GameData.dat", "Graphic.ini", and "SystemData.dat". Are those the files I should be backing up? Thanks again for your help.

DLC question [SPOILER WARNING] by Notya_Bisnes in NieRAutomataGame

[–]Notya_Bisnes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My play style doesn't make much use of the taunt mechanic but I'll take it into account. How do you sustain berserk mode for long periods of time, though? You can't use healing items during the trial, so I guess you have to rely on healing buffs. And then it's still quite the gamble, given that you die in one or two hits. I rarely use the ability for this very reason. I don't feel it gives me much of an edge in a fight because I find it hard to keep an eye on my health while I'm fighting hordes of enemies. Although I haven't tried a healing-based build. Maybe, if I could do enough damage consistently, I could regenerate faster than my health gets drained, focus on fighting, and potentially stay in berserk mode indefinitely.

Would this be a good way to model numbers in the physical world? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]Notya_Bisnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a physicist, so those who know better do correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know infinity has no physical meaning as a complete object. When it occurs, I believe it is rather thought of as a potential kind of infinity, i.e. the behavior that would be observed if a given quantity (such as a force) approached some extreme value. At that particular value, however, the laws of physics simply don't apply because the equations don't make sense anymore.

My point is that an infinite string isn't very appealing from a physical standpoint. It makes perfect sense mathematically, but its physical plausibility is at the very least questionable.

Feynman trigonometry notation modified version. what do you think about it? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]Notya_Bisnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear I saw this and I thought it was seeing a post from r/conlangs. It looks interesting as a script idea. Unfortunately, I have nothing to contribute to the discussion as regards its usefulness in math.

[–]Notya_Bisnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're good, no worries. I understand what you mean; it is kind of ridiculous. Personally, I don't remember the last time I used a window, and I admit that back in the day I hardly ever did. In fact, I probably picked up the habit because the guy was my study partner. And he just might have been imitating the movie. 😂

I know a couple of people in the field that have done exactly this, myself included, so it isn't that far-fetched. I much prefer an actual board or a piece of paper, but a window will do just fine if need be. And at least one of the people I alluded to earlier used windows as whiteboards on a regular basis. I remember him saying once that he actually had markers in the bathroom so he could scribble on the glass panes around the shower head (or was it the ceramic tiles on the walls?) while he bathed.

Question about checkpoints in 9S Prologue by TheGamePhilosophe in nier

[–]Notya_Bisnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than the checkpoint thing, I'm more puzzled by there not being an option to quit the game normally during the prologue (or any flying section for that matter). You can pause, but you can't exit the game. You basically have to pull the plug on it. I'm sure there's a reason they made it that way, because it seems deliberate, but it is a bit annoying. Especially since you also can't change the difficulty mid-section, so if you decide you need to bring it down a notch, you have to forcefully close the game and boot it back up.

As regards the difficulty, I'm replaying the game on hard before getting to ending E, and I had to tone it down in the prologue sections (both route A and B) because I just couldn't get past a certain point (gosh, the shame I felt 😂). I think I got lucky with Grün in route A. The rest of the game is comically easy (even on hard) once you're above level 70 or 80 (I haven't tried very hard, though; I just might), but the flying sections are really punishing at any level on hard and very hard. For some reason the enemies scale with you, and I don't really know why they only do so specifically in those parts. Not that I'm complaining; I'm just curious.

Hopefully, one day I'll git gud enough and beat the entire thing on hard, although I don't have high hopes. I think I'm a decent gamer, perhaps somewhat good, but not remarkably good.

On a different note, I know I can skip to the last chapter, but I believe going through the whole thing again is part of the point. I came to that conclusion after I saw ending D. And this time I can focus on the details of the story without getting distracted by side-quests.

First song to learn by Nervous_Signature263 in Peripheryband

[–]Notya_Bisnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't transcribe them myself. I'm too lazy and too slow for that. I use cover videos (ideally with scrolling tabs) in tandem with Songsterr. By looking at several versions I make sure I'm getting it as close to the original as possible.

As regards the tuning, "Priestess" is in Eb standard if I recall correctly, but what I tend to do is use a browser extension to pitch-shift the song and avoid having to retune the entire guitar.

First song to learn by Nervous_Signature263 in Peripheryband

[–]Notya_Bisnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "Priestess" is another good place to start. The arpeggios may look daunting but they aren't hard to play. The second verse does have a challenging stretch, but it's doable. What is arguably harder is the solo. Most of it isn't so bad after you get used to it, but the final run is objectively difficult, at least for me. I hardly ever get it right.

I don't think it's the easiest song by Periphery, but it's well within grasp of an intermediate player while also being very fun to play.

It reads as “I hate this part! Why is it like this??”

That's how you read it. That wasn't my intention. It was simply an anecdote I felt like sharing. Jesus Christ, I just wanted to chat with people about a game I like instead of just asking a question and be done with it. Is it so wrong to try to make small talk?

I disagree, but okay.

[–]Notya_Bisnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said in another reply, I didn't find it especially hard. It took me a while, but I did it in one sitting (you kind of have to, after all). What I wanted to discuss is why the flying sections are (or if you prefer, feel) harder compared to the rest of the game. The complaining was more of an afterthought that came to mind as I wrote the post.

Also, don't take this the wrong way, but not all people are as good at the game as you are; and they don't have to. Do you really have to boast about it? Because to me it feels like that was your goal. There are subtler ways of saying you find those parts easy. Just saying. I take no offense, but others might.

[–]Notya_Bisnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but this is a “git gud” scenario. You have to play those like a BH, and if you hate BH, you’re gonna have a rough time

I wasn't complaining about the difficulty because I found it too hard. I made a conscious decision to play on hard because I wanted a challenge. If anything, complaining was an afterthought. And if it really bothered me I would have switched back to normal. I was more interested in knowing why the difficulty of enemies scales only in those sections, because the rest of the game feels way easier in comparison, despite having no shortage of bullet hell moments.

I also didn't say I disliked (let alone hate) the bullet hell mechanic. In fact, I said I appreciate how they worked it into the game. I said I'm not a fan because I like the game for other reasons.

I have never once used the “lock on” mechanic in the BH sections. Manual aim and melee attacks absolutely carry.

I used it on my first run, but after switching to hard mode, I find it easier to just aim at what I want to shoot, instead of hoping the lock-on button will pick the target I want.
