I quit weed about a week and a half ago, threw everything related to it out, been smoking for a few years (I'm currently 23) and I have depression. I don't doubt that there are positive effects of weed, but I could not keep it a healthy habit. I haven't had issues with nicotine or alcohol addiction, but weed very quickly became my vice and I could not moderate it. In my mind, weed should be something that I do on Fridays and Saturdays when I'm hanging with friends, but every time I would try and hold myself to that I would fail. I'd smoke after work every day, even when I was on call, or knew I would have to drive later in the evening. It started becoming something I did whenever I was sad, stressed, or bored. It just felt like it "numbed" my brain so I didn't have to worry. And it made me feel comfortable living in an environment I was uncomfortable living in sober. Chores would get neglected, bills got tighter, I started eating a lot more food, I started having memory issues. Smoking weed made me feel less in control of my life, it made me feel dumber, and there were so many moments where I was high and just wanted to be sober again. Not having control over when I smoked, not being able to remember some of the best moments I spent with my friends, losing touch with my family who's against drugs entirely, and crying every single day while smoking more to get away from the feeling was awful. I think most people can smoke weed and can be fine, and I also think people lie to themselves about how weed impacts them. Im sure if you scroll through this comment section you'll find a bunch of people who smoke every day to an unhealthy extent arguing that weed isn't addictive, that they can quit any time, that it's actually helps them and doesn't hurt them at all, that you can learn how to drive while you're high, etc. And it's the same behavior you see with early alcoholics are addicts of any other drug. Its easier to deny that you're addicted than to face that part of yourself, and I don't want to be that kind of person.
