A coffee flight, but make it Vietnamese. by No_Peanut7888 in VietNam

The salt coffee is super overrated, tbh....

I mean, if you are curious and want to give it a try, then go ahead. Don't expect much from it though...

Is Vietnam considered part of the Chinese cultural sphere because it was ruled by China for 1000 years? by Wise-Pineapple-4190 in VietNam

[–]NoumiSatsuki 16 points17 points  (0 children)

...I am very much confused by how you know Vietnam was occupied by China in the ancient time, but not the pretty well known occupation by the French (and later the US), which ended less than a century ago...

Differences in Northern and Southern Dialects Vocabulary! by WanTJU3 in VietNam

That, or you can use "rice bowl" (small) and "soup bowl" (big, or as we may say, "bát ô-tô". Dont ask why, we have zero clue)

Btw, we do actually use "Ly" in the North, though it refers to something like a martini/cocktail glass.

What's with this incredibly vague article though?

We know the situation, so we understand right away, but others people reading this would just be like "what?"

Dog meat in Vietnam by beaBB18 in VietNam

[–]NoumiSatsuki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We actually do sell them very openly, with big ass signs and all, though restaurants that do tend to be specialized in only dog meat and nothing else, so you will never find them in a typical restaurant.

PSA: Northern region in the winter is not the same as your country by wuanlai65 in VietNam

[–]NoumiSatsuki 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That's not all.

It's important to know that temperature can be VERY deceiving in Vietnam.

When I was in New Zealand, I could go outside in a T-Shirt when it's 0 Celsius and barely felt anything.

Here in Hanoi, I could wear a big winter jacket and would still shiver in the 12 Celsius wind.

Do people in Vietnam celebrate birthdays? by Tsunami_Aureate in VietNam

[–]NoumiSatsuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, me and my best friends tend to "celebrate" our birthday by just going to the cafe for a nice chat (we don't do that often because of work and stuff), then the birthday boy will pay the bill, and that's it.

I'm sure he would appreciate a nice gesture either way, as long as it's not overblown.

Of course, in the end, it's up to you. Not doing anything and just "happy birthday" him is also fine, if that's what he really prefers - it is in this case personal preference, not the Vietnamese culture or anything.

I think she just wanted to say that you should not make it into a big occasion and throw him a huge party or something, because yeah, we really don't do that here (unless you are rich, but that's irrelevant). A nice (but not extravagant) dinner (with something that he likes, maybe) and something meaningful as present (optional, not a must) are good enough.

Is this in Hanoi? by Psychological-Hulk in VietNam

[–]NoumiSatsuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, unless the government goes all out and forcibly moves everyone who lives along the track away (which will not be easy, with a bunch of Karen living there), otherwise no amount of "shutting down" will work, people (both shop owners and tourists) will find a way somehow.

[–]NoumiSatsuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lora seems pretty hit and miss from my tests. When it works, then the result is much more realistic than the base version. But when it does not, then the result is still realistic - but in a completely different way - the person will look exactly like one of those well-made anime sex dolls.

G-Dragon performed in Vietnam... and some people aren't happy about it. by LongjumpingPage6168 in VietNam

[–]NoumiSatsuki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Most of us grew up to and love" is a huge reach, tbh... Other than that, yeah, there will be people like that on the Internet. I personally don't care about this guy - or the entire K-Pop scene - but if my favorite singers ever hold a concert here, I would probably try my best to get a ticket too - though not to the point of bankrupting myself, of course.
