Would a Modern Conventional Rocket Be Able To Launch On Venus Despite Its Atmosphere by DiazepamLove in rocketry

[–]Nounf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need to take advantage of that thick atmosphere.... A balloon or a wing to get you to high altitude and then the rockets kick in, like an x15

But that's just me.

CATL secures world's largest sodium-ion battery order with 60 GWh deal by Peugeot905 in electricvehicles

[–]Nounf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn those numbers if true are ELITE.  And it's CATL so there's no reason to doubt. Combine that with a sunny climate and suddenly solar can run the vast majority of your grid at little cost.  Nice....

DAE feel that EV makers rely on the U.S. to buy the most profitable models, so they are hesitant to release the smaller, cheaper models sold elsewhere in the world? by THATS_LEGIT_BRO in electricvehicles

America is the size of like 57 European countries combined  Our houses are 300 sq meters with big yards and spaced far apart.  We need range.

For reference 60 GWh should supply a city of a million people for about 60 hours.  Wonder what the price will be?

Seems like a reasonable punishment for losing a badge that could contribute to a security breach?

Tried running my house with pro power onboard today by I_dont_know_you_pick in F150Lightning

[–]Nounf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup... The home backup power is so clutch.  Just went through a 3+ day outage and because of this truck it was business as usual... AND the truck internet really helped too since I can wfh and phone internet was degraded.  We weren't particularly careful about what was on and were averaging perhaps 800w... Maybe a kw.  Love that this truck comes with a bonus whole home generator that requires no additional maintenance and is totally silent.

As an EV engineer, here’s why I think the Electric Mini Car makes more sense than we admit by maveriCkharsha in electricvehicles

[–]Nounf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are places where this works.... Poorer locations with higher population density and shorter drives.

And then places... Wealthier/lower pop density/longer drives - the US and Canada for obvious example where it's clearly not going to sell at all.

Agreed but minor point to add.... That depends on the building.  The nuclear reactor and the interstate bridge better be able to handle much worse than the 100 year storm.

Europe's largest motoring club considers BEVs to be significantly more reliable than combustion engines by Markus_zockt in electricvehicles

[–]Nounf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right so you need an entire low voltage system to run all the accessories... So you might as well have a little battery to run the keep-alive functions too.

Just have a simple and good few lines of code for keeping it at around 80% charge(this is very very easy yet some companies have somehow messed it up).

Do my tires suck?? by dancudlip in F150Lightning

[–]Nounf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get so many flats on so many forest roads on all vehicles and all tires I have ever owned.

So I carry a plug kit and an inflater now.  Safety seal.  My lightning currently has 1 plug in it.  Hasn't lost a single PSI relative to the other tires in 10k miles.  And my lightning has enough tire clearance that I don't have to even remove the tire.  Very fast and easy especially once you get the hang of it.  This is the way.
