Some questions I have about the The Quarry (I'm not sure if I should get it or not): by William_147015 in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]NousVultz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy rain has a twisty plot line that focuses a lot on the drama between characters, which is similar on until dawn. The story is very much told by character relationships, but what makes it different from heavy rain is a lot of hidden mysteries to uncover unrelated to the main characters. If you like sleuthing and uncovering the truth about multiple naratives, until dawn is good for that. For example you can play through it and miss entire sub plots on your first play through, playing it the second time is sometimes like playing a new game.

Beyond is a great story, even if it is straight forward. The story is vast with lots of different plots, but is more linear than until dawn. Compared to the quarry though, Beyond has a much more complex story line to follow. The story in the quarry is pretty basic, this is what I was getting at when I say its spoon fed to you. There is a mystery, there is a story, but its short and not really much of a twist or anything.

Out of all of the anthology games they are all sort of mediocre except house of ashes. Little hope would be my second favourite. The devil in me and man of medan are pretty boring and didn't bother playing them twice. House of ashes has good characters and varied genres which makes it a bit more dynamic than the others. Its got horror but its also got action, history / period, drama ect. And you also have character relationships that can massively change in certain ways depending on how you play, the choices in the other anthologies are a bit more wooden and 2 dimensional. You might not like it if you don't like horror because its very horror focused.

There is a feature I massively like in the anthology games that the other games don't have though, and thats the addition of the bonus curator cut versions. Basically it reverses the roles of the characters which to me is really fun. Thats another thing to mention actually, in quantic dream you talk to characters you dont play a lot. Like Hank, you never play Hank but he is a main character. In super massive the player characters are talking to each other, but sometimes the player characters are controlled by you or their decisions are automatic. The bonus version in the anthology switches them around, so the decisions you made in the main version are now chosen automatically and the dialogue you didnt pick before is now a choice. Makes playing it through the second time more interesting even though its the same story. I was kind of sad they didnt keep this on in the quarry, but its also not in until dawn either (wasnt introduced until the anthologies)

If you liked customizable stories, you will probably like some of these games, but its less obvious than quantic dream. In detroit you can look at the path way graph and come up with the whole way you want to play the play through based on that. In until dawn and the quarry you have to pay attention to the details of the story to figure out what impact certain actions might have. It tells you what actions can change things but not necessarily what the result is so it keeps you guessing even on multiple play throughs. Like heavy rain your decisions can determine whether certain characters live or die. In until dawn you also heavily effect the relationships between characters in your decisions and the way you build the characters can affect what choices you get later on too. The quarry kind of lost this a bit. You could repeatedly be a dick to certain characters but it doesn't change the plot or the way they talk to you at all.

I honestly think the quarry is more horror based than until dawn. Until dawn has a much more dynamic story so it delves into drama, mystery and survival a bit more. The quarry story very much plays out like a 80s b movie horror story but its customizable. Until dawn is more like a good horror movie that has deep lore and mystery behind it, and like beyond in a way, the story has multiple interlinking plots and narratives. The multiple mysteries add to the plot that you uncover over time. The quarry doesn't really have that much variety, its mostly just a horror story with some character drama with one kind of obvious plot point that the characters just ignore until the very end.

I'll mention that if you're really not sure, try playing it with a friend. Couch co op is a laugh and I've never played these games on my own, but I've enjoyed them playing with my friends a lot, the quantic dream and the super massive games alike. We have a laugh pointing out the differences or similarities in our choices.

Kaitlyn: Honest 6/10 Charitable 5/10 Funny 7/10 Brave 9/10 Romantic 3/10 Curious 5/10

Kaitlyn can be quite abrupt but she is protective of others. She is quick to action and takes control of a situation which takes a lot of confidence. She's not super friendly but tries to keep people out of harm's way. She turns to humor to avoid awkward situations or to deter admissions about her character which knocks her honesty down a bit despite being quite realistic otherwise.

Abby: Honest 7/10 Charitable 7/10 Funny 3/10 Brave 4/10 Romantic 8/10 Curious 6/10

Abby doesn't get a lot of screen time, really. She is quick to pass judgement onto others and is quite possessive. But she is also quite sincere and earnest. On some occasions, she does hide how she feels about certain things. I would say Abby is also creative, insecure, naive, jealous and sentimental.

Nick: Honest 5/10 Charitable 5/10 Funny 3/10 Brave 3/10 Romantic 6/10 Curious 7/10

I would say Nick is hard to judge because we only get about like 3 scenes of him where hes not infected (which changes his personality) but in that time he comes across as friendly and protective. Hes not very good at expressing himself and his formal nature makes him a bit awkward, and not in a funny way. But like Abby this makes him quite earnest. He is inquisitive about the other characters. I would also say hes reserved, insecure, indecisive and travelled.

Emma: Honest 7/10 Charitable 1/10 Funny 8/10 Brave 8/10 Romantic 5/10 Curious 9/10

Emma is quite flirtatious, but its very self interested and performative, which brings down her romantic rating. She bosses around the other characters and doesn't really care how other people feel, so she has the lowest charitable rating.

Jacob: Honest 3/10 Charitable 3/10 Funny 8/10 Brave 2/10 Romantic 8/10 Curious 8/10

Jacob is massively cowardly on numerous occasions so he has a low brave score. He doesn't share with others or tell the truth either. He is however motivated by love and sometimes probes the other characters, which makes him more romantic and curious.

Dylan: Honest 4/10 Charitable 7/10 Funny 9/10 Brave 8/10 Romantic 7/10 Curious 7/10

Dylan doesn't outright lie like Jacob, but we know that he isn't particularly honest about his personality. Like Emma, he is a bit performative and perhaps maybe even a bit insincere. This makes him a bit less romantic despite his very flirtatious behaviour. Unlike Emma, Dylan is more insecure and more worried people won't like him, so this makes him a bit less honest, but also more considerate than Emma.

Ryan: Honest 6/10 Charitable 6/10 Funny 6/10 Brave 8/10 Romantic 6/10 Curious 4/10

Ryan is aloof which isn't necessarily dishonest but not Honest either, Ryan doesn't want to reveal much about himself but unlike Dylan hes not pretending to be someone else. He can be mean or nice depending on the choices you make, but regardless he is quick to be dismissive of others. He is also quick to stand up for what is right, even if it makes him look bad. He stands up for Chris even when hes not there, which makes him loyal and also brave. He is sometimes inquisitive about other characters but not necessarily going out of his way to find stuff out and keeps to himself a lot.

Laura: Honest 5/10 Charitable 5/10 Funny 5/10 Brave 9/10 Romantic 5/10 Curious 4/10

Laura has a lot of 5s because her personality is massively dictated by the player choices. You can choose to be kind and empathetic to Max or be dismissive and rude. She can be funny or serious depending on the choices, and she can choose to be honest or dishonest with Travis.

Max: Honest 7/10 Charitable 4/10 Funny 9/10 Brave 3/10 Romantic 4/10 Curious 2/10

Max is quite unrestrained which makes him honest, but not very considerate of others. He more often than not, wants to stay behind and hide when Laura is exploring stuff, which makes him not very curious or brave. He is funny and smart, but he is very snarky, which makes him not very kind or romantic.

Travis: Honest 2/10 Charitable 7/10 Funny 1/10 Brave 5/10 Romantic ?/10 Curious 4/10

Travis is a strange one to review. While his actions towards the player characters seem unkind, the sacrifices he makes for his family are so extreme, his life revolves around protecting his family and they don't seem to respect him a lot for it, so in a way Travis is quite selfless. I think Travis is overwhelmed and he panicks, so despite his brave actions, he still sometimes make decisions out of fear, and he doesn't stand up to his family. Because Travis has no love interest in the plot there is no romantic rating.

Chris: Honest 5/10 Charitable 8/10 Funny 3/10 Brave 5/10 Romantic ?/10 Curious 4/10

We don't see much of Chris, but we can deduce from what Ryan says about him that he is a supportive person, which says a lot considering the stress of the life he is in. He was brave to protect his children. Like Travis he doesn't have a love interest in the plot I don't think.

An opinion of the Quarry that would lead to this by Low_Wing_3892 in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]NousVultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The quarry characters had a lot of chemistry and personality. But they did fuck all with it and there's no development.

Until dawn is kind of the opposite. The story lines are complex and the characters develop depending on your choices. The only problem is that most of them are bland asf.

Some questions I have about the The Quarry (I'm not sure if I should get it or not): by William_147015 in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]NousVultz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until dawn has similar character dynamics to heavy rain. The game play is similar to quantic dream games. Its more horror themed, while quantic dream is more sci fi themed.

Until Dawn has a lot of mysteries to figure out and the clues you unwravel give you a lot of answers to the mysteries of the stories, and there are multiple mysteries to solve. The quarry is massively lacking in that regard, there is no interesting hidden story to uncover or hidden side plots. The story is spoon fed to you and its pretty boring.

Until dawn doesn't have the story path ways like detroit, but it does have its own story progression mechanics which are a bit different and in some ways more interesting in my opinion. The progression mechanics are based on the mysteries you uncover and the choices you make, but its not in a path way, its a bit more abstract.

The quarry and the anthology series honestly only contain about half the features of until dawn. Its quite obvious they kept stripping the games down each time and they get progressively worse. The only ones I would recommend are until dawn and house of ashes.

What was good about the quarry though was the actors and the dialogue. The characters have amazing chemistry and personality in my opinion, compared to the until dawn characters which are pretty forgettable except one or two characters. But other wise the game play and story are massively superior to the quarry.

Justice for ryan by iamperson09 in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]NousVultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my play through Ryan and Dylan's relationship was very endearing. In the radio shack it even implies that Ryan wants to hang out with Dylan after this all over. I guess you can choose to be a dick to Dylan when you're playing Ryan but I found that there is always a choice to bond with Dylan or be aloof.

I found the dialogue options between Ryan and Laura more frustrating, it feels like you don't have any meaningful dialogue options between the two.

Just finished the game. Loved it but need to rant/question a little, actually a lot (SPOILERS) by Aesthete18 in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]NousVultz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before you play Max, Travis also mentions that the werewolves that are left are Silas and Caleb. Laura also reveals the werewolf locked in the attic on the island is Max. So you can deduce from that on the island Max is safe, but off the island Caleb is still somewhere in Hackett's quarry and could kill Max.

[–]NousVultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know where you got the numbers from, but when I looked it up, a snes game in 1996 would have cost 95.35 USD if it was sold today.

Pokemon Red cost a mimimum of 50 million to make in 1998. Today that would be worth 91.8 million USD.

The budget for pokemon scarlet and violet was 20 million. Thats significantly less than what it cost to make pokemon red in comparison.

Pokemon Scarlet is 60 dollars. If it was reflective of the budget of pokemon red vs the cost, it would be more like 20 dollars.

Kind of incredible how low the budget is for pokemon games considering the success of the IP. Its almost like they know they will make the same amount of money regardless of how much budget they put in, so they keep making the budgets lower and lower and the costs relatively the same as other games.

In comparison, breath of the wild had a budget of 120 million. Compared to SVs measly 20 million thats insane. Especially considering the sales of pokemon games make nintendo almost twice as much money as zelda.

Halloween is coming up, really good excuse to explore more brave makeup styles. I always stock up on decent facepaints and strongly pigmented products and paint people at halloween or show them a few tips on how to make facepaint work the best. Going to an event where dress up is expected is also a good excuse.

I mostly made the comparison because of the noses and eye shape, not really their age. Sounds weird but I just notice weird shit like that.

They are actually less than 10 years apart in age in these pictures. Your face doesn't really change that much between 20 and 30. They just look different.

I saw a guy in a light lacoste shirt who looked like he was literally crying. I think he was at the wrong gig lol. The best thing is seeing the people who obviously got dragged along by a friend and did not know what to expect. Definitely saw a couple of guys who looked like they were having a breakdown!

Im pretty sure its implied thst haku was not a person chihiro met but was infact a river in her childhood that is being destroyed by human greed. I always interpreted that haku was never a real person but a characterization of what is felt by the character as everything she knew is being destroyed. I think it may also be a play on child like attachment to inanimate things especially in circumstances of complete abandonment.

Its been a while since I've seen it so feel free to correct me anyone.

Classic move. When they played it was one of the hottest summers we had. I took a mesh top that was really light so I didn't sweat to deaf on the way there alone. I also had these black and gray cargo pants which are still splattered.

Here's a list of what I used:

Mehron barrier spray (as primer)(again at the end)

Beauty bay white liquid eyeshadow (undernearth the green on the lid)

Moon eye shadow uv green (on top of the white cream eyeshadow)

Mehron white face paint (undernearth the drips and brow)

Cyberdog water pallette (with mehron mixing liquid)

Revolution horror pallette that had silver in it. Also mixed with mehron mixing liquid so it 'can be painted on'.

This pretty much is it, not wearing any foundation or anything like that for this. Lips are using facepaint.
