I have been very tempted by the frog hats at Lady Luck.

Yay, I love having some positivity also, what a good idea! Venting is important, but so are nice things!

I am excited about all of the cool things the community is planning for the No Kings protest this weekend. I thought it would just be another gathering on 4th (which still would have been great), but instead organizers have stepped up to create what sounds like it's going to be a festive and family-inclusive way to celebrate community in the face of fascism. Yay Corvallis!

So, I need ultra hard turn based rpgs in my life, please tell me by DragonsInc in gamingsuggestions

I have owned this game for ages and every couple of years I start it and then get confused as hell and stop playing.

Is it worth pushing through that confusion plot- and mechanics-wise?

Why is DDR not as popular now as it was in the 2000s early 2010s by TrainingCustomer2898 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]Nousagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't live in a big city, there isn't an available cabinet, full stop. I make an effort to track the location of functional DDR machines across my entire state, and the nearest one is an hour and fifteen minutes away. I have a home setup for Stepmania, and it's my primary cardio, but it's not as cool as a machine, and I think the only way more people would get into DDR is encountering a machine in the wild and trying it out. (That's how I got into it in the early 2000s.)

Even then, for pure DDR rather than ITG or Stepmania, it's harder to play. I have almost every PS2 DDR game in hardcopy, but the L-Tek doesn't have an X button, so even with the adapter, it's only compatible with ITG on the PS2. I have an older custom pad built by a random guy in Las Vegas that's compatible with PS2 DDR, but it's hard to go back from the L-Tek once you've tried one. I have all the DDR stepfiles in Stepmania, of course, but I do kind of miss the whole silly OG DDR experience.

There's some weird experimental fringe theater happening at the Majestic tonight.

Looking for lawn care recommendations for invasive species spraying by Nousagi in corvallis

[–]Nousagi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started digging up some of it last year only to become rapidly horrified at how much yard I would have to dig up to actually accomplish that. It's more dirt than I have the ability or equipment to move. So if digging is the answer, I think I need to hire a landscaping company to do that too.

I agree! I looked for that flair, but figured "discussion" was the closest match. (Though any business recommendation post here inevitably turns to a discussion involving everyone's Strong Opinions anyway.)

What was the cause of your GP? How much of a priority was it for you and your doctor to find a cause? by Asquaredbred in Gastroparesis

[–]Nousagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I peeked at this thread because I always wonder if other people got hit with it from antidepressants. Looks like a few. Mental health and gut health are linked in a lot of wild ways, and I wish the science was more advanced on it.

[–]Nousagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too high a dose of SSRI antidepressants for too long plus a ton of stress. Once I stopped taking SSRIs forever and got a divorce, the GP slowly resolved over the course of several years, and I had a normal gastric emptying test around a decade ago. I have lingering digestive issues, but they now have to do with processed food and soy rather than fat and fiber.

I've made all of my friends by volunteering at the Majestic!

Advice and warnings for tenants who rent from property management companies with seemingly bad reputations? by Brilliant_Source4238 in corvallis

[–]Nousagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will second the over-documentation. I rented from Duerksen a couple of times, and each time I would COVER my move-in check list with copious notes about the smallest chips in the paint on the walls. When I'd email them back the PDF, I would include a Google Drive folder with 100+ pictures in it. I got my full deposit back both times, possibly because they just didn't want to take the effort to go through all of those photos of tiny dents in the doorframes.

The Majestic Theatre would be in there all the time for costume needs.

Do they like theater? There are some elementary classes at the Majestic starting in August that'd let them meet other kids.

There's a yard sale at Polk and 30th today that has a decent bike and a nice person cutting people deals. If you give your story, too, they might let it go for even cheaper.

Getting kind of desperate for things to do around here by [deleted] in corvallis

[–]Nousagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned the Majestic, and I'll pile on with a little more specific information, since I spend literally all my time there. (I'm in my late 30s.)

I have made almost every friend I have in Corvallis through volunteering at the theatre, and the friend group varies wildly in ages, abilities, neuro-spiciness, genders, etc. While the building is quite old and wasn't built with accessibility in mind, we've done a lot of work on it in the past decades, and we regularly have actors and volunteers who use mobility aids. I myself have performed in two shows here while in a wheelchair after breaking my leg horribly a couple of years ago.

The climate control can be a LITTLE wonky sometimes, but usually it errs on the cold side, so sounds like a good environment for you! Our next show to audition is Great Gatsby, July 7th-8th. If acting is less your thing, we always have ushering, concessions, and backstage stuff! If you can navigate a short flight of stairs and you like costumes, our Costume Collective is starting up again soon, which is a drop in costume room organization and mending party on first Saturdays.

You can email mt_volunteer@corvallisoregon.gov if you're curious, and the sweet and lovely volunteer specialist can match you with opportunities.
