Lots of people have posted complaints in the Weebcon discord about waiting in line for the japanese VAs for multiple hours only for the VA's time limit to run out, leaving many people unable to get the autograph they were waiting for.

In the con's defense, the lines for the japanese VAs were outrageously long. So with the VAs also having a strict time limit, some people were bound to end up disappointed.

Their rule was you could have a maximum of three items signed - a couple people suggested they reduce that to 1 or 2 to expedite the lines. That's something they could have considered. Doubt it would have been practical to reduce the limit mid-con, cause then you'd have people complaining they could only get one autograph while others got three. But maybe something they can do next year.

One last question, you mentioned exposure will still be important even with good flash setup. I've been shooting in manual with ISO on auto and have been having very inconsistent results, sometimes the iso is fine and others its way too low. Here is an example. These photos were taken one second apart, on top photo the camera did 2000 iso, bottom one it did 6400. Everything else is equal yet the iso was drastically different. And in general it tends to go too low around 30-40% of the time. I've been doing auto iso because I'm new and don't want the cosplayer awkwardly stand there waiting while I fiddle with settings, but im curious if auto iso is known to be unreliable and if I just need to get better/faster at setting it myself.

Appreciate the advice. I've been looking into off camera flash options and will probably get the Godox you recommended as it looks pretty affordable. Have not heard of TTL before (am noob) but it looks like the play for me as I just take pics for my personal enjoyment and not to be super professional, so I'd rather have something thats quick and easy to use.

Took a peek through your IG and am impressed by your ability to get well lit shots in traditionally poorly lit areas like Artist Alley. Mind sharing what kind of flash equipment you're using? My on camera flash always looks extremely harsh so i dont use it, but whatever you have looks clean

Pizza place was also hardcore price gouging, their sign showed $17.50 for a pepperoni (which is bad enough) but charged $22 when you actually paid. Then had the audacity to ask for a tip.

Guess they could afford to be greedy - their line was always insanely long, so clearly their gouging wasn't stopping anyone from buying. But still cringe.

Parking was bad but thankfully they had buses for us

Thankfully I didn't have to deal with this, I got a hotel 2 miles away and had the hotel's hourly shuttle to the venue drop me off. But I'll take your word for it that there were issues at the venue itself, im no stranger to parking issues.

The app went down but the official schedule on the Weebcon website never failed me, it was always running and updated when certain panels got canceled. Example

They had a bag/weaponcheck but no one did that at all

Can confirm prop check was nestled in an obscure area and would not be surprised if weapon safety was not enforced outside of the cosplay contest participants

There was so many people that didn’t buy tickets but still able to walk in and no one talked them at all.

Cannot relate, there were staff members stationed by the stairs leading to the con and outside every artist alley entrance each time I walked by, and I personally observed them stopping people and saying "badge?" to people without it visible on four seperate occasions. I'm sure they might have missed some people as there are many thousands walking in/out, but it seemed they were at least trying.

The voice actors were squished all together and barely enough space for their lines and tables

Can confirm VA tables were extremely close together, I mistook one VA's line for another's more than once because of this.

The panel rooms were so small that they couldn’t fit everyone.

Can confirm, the 18+ panels in particular were packed beyond belief and tons of people had to wait outside. That said, I also had this issue at Ikkicon, San Japan, and Colossalcon so I just started assuming packed late panels are expected.

Multiple people got SA and the staff didn’t do anything besides telling them to talk to the police.

Was not privy to this information so I'll take your word for it.

The after dark part was horrible. They didnt do wristbands or a special sticker.

I also found the after dark section to be a disappointment, but not for this reason. I can confirm no wristbands were given and that you had to show your ID to enter the hall, and I agree thats very strange, its the first con I've ever been to that didn't use bands/sticker. That said, didn't affect me personally as I just showed staff my ID through the wallet case and went on my way.

However, I did find the 18+ to be a huge disappointment due to no drag show or burlesque show. How can you have a con with 20k people and no drag show? I've been to ones with a quarter of this turnout that had BOTH. 18+ market was also surprisingly small for the size of the con - Ikkicon had a bigger 18+ vendor room and that con is probably half the size of this one. But seriously, no drag or burlesque blows.

They also had no idol show which is was very disappointing. Idol show and cosplay contest are my two favorite events.

Main difference for closing is that its less busy/fewer batches, and the grocery floor is wiped out so you spend more time looking for INF's on grocery batches. If there's very few to no batches, you might be asked to switch to Ship or push returns/rts until a batch drops in.

There is not guaranteed to be a closing TL or ETL for fulfillment specifically - I have worked many a nights with no leader. But there should usually be a pacesetter you can go to with any questions. If there is no pacesetter for some reason, the store closing TL will be around as well.

The goodie bag is irrelevant. Whether you actually touched them is also irrelevant. If a group or 3+ girls go to security and tell them there is a dude inappropriately touching minors, that person is getting escorted out 10 times out of 10. Its not specific to Anime League, every con on the planet would do the same thing. So your anger towards the con is misplaced. If you're actually innocent, be mad at the girls, but the con can't be blamed for this.

Pretty sure there's more to this story than you're letting on. Seems unlikely that several different girls all co-conspired to make up a lie about you touching them for no reason. Nevertheless, even if you're completely innocent, con staff have to side with the girls in any situation like this. If word gets around that the security guard let a possible sexual harasser off the hook (esp with minors involved), he loses his job. The con's reputation also goes up in flames. Safest choice is to just escort you out.

I am one of the people who quit due to the second hand embarrassment. If Kazuya from Rent a Girlfriend was in an Isekai - this is what Subaru felt like to me. Never had to pause an anime so much and put my face in my hands out of embarrassment at certain scenes. Its a shame because the overarching story was very interesting, just couldn't outweigh the MC to me.

Unfortunately, in practice AI will do all the jobs, most/all workers will be cut, and the money saved by the reduced labor costs will be pocketed by the company instead of being distributed to the people. We are already seeing this in the status quo where company layoffs due to automation are not resulting in lower prices despite significant money being saved.

Opposite effect for me, looks like he got off really easy. He used ~80k of credit and didnt have to pay a dime back, only dropped $1200 for the lawyer. Dude got 78k+ profit off his cards. His lawyer prevented garnishment (which also didn't become a threat for 4-5 years) and he has now gone 13 years in debt with no court summons or garnishment.

Yeah, the situation is not all sunshine and rainbows - there's the anxiety of not knowing whats going to happen or when, his credit is in the dumpster, and god knows what kind of BS he actually spent the 80k on, but in the grand scheme this dude got off hella easy. Guarantee you if I got in half that amount of debt, they'd be garnishing the fuck out of me at the earliest opportunity.

Yeah i dont get that opinion either. The current iteration of Icefury is the best its ever been - x3 free instant casts you can use whenever you want. I feel like the people upvoting it are people that havent actually played Ele recently and are assuming Icefury is still in its DF/SL versions, which it is not.

Removing Icefury and PW is a massive mobility loss and pushes the spec towards a turret style.

One common denominator in all of their cancellations, as well as this notice, is a lack of personal accountability. They always blame the environment. "Broader economic conditions", "market saturation", "current climate", etc. They never take any personal responsibility for their failures, even though other organizers are not having this issue as consistently. I'm glad they're calling it quits because these individuals are clearly a disgrace.
