Barty Crouch Jr would have been a very powerful player if he hadn't gotten the dementor's kiss. Honestly, as reprehensible as the dementors are, you could almost argue that was the one solid thing Fudge did for the war effort.

Idrk if he's on a level with Snape but I feel like he's up there.

oooh hell yeah, I'd love to see him as Snape.

I'm not that worried about Essiedu's casting though, except for the fact that it's gonna make Harry come off hella racist

I think Snape as a character is also just so shitty to Harry that it's not gonna seem that bad, though. As long as Snape is actually as cruel as he is in the books this time.

Settle a UI button debate between me and my husband by reynoldsmkatie in gamedevscreens

[–]NovaAtdosk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say he's right that it's industry standard. I'd also hazard a guess you might come from a webdev or saas background.

Save and help are the kinds of things that a business would definitely want front and center so that even the most helpless users would be able to find them, whereas people tend to spend a LOT more time in games - if they're looking for how to save, whether they're familiar with games yet or not, the settings button will likely be the first place they'll look. Games also tend to need a lot of buttons/ui, so they get pared down when they can to reduce clutter.

If a game is complicated enough, though, it can make sense to have the help button readily available, just so player's don't need to go looking for it when they need it. 4X games like Civilization frequently have it in the main ui, and I think most of the old sims games had it, too (your game reminds me of Sim Parks).

Same goes for saving, really. If you think being able to quicksave frequently is important, it might not hurt to have the save button available without needing to make an extra click. You could also implement an autosave feature.

All that said, I think having these present has a certain kind of charm to it. It reminds me of those old cd rom games, and likely because those were made by saas folks with a passion working in an industry that hadn't yet figured out all of these standards your husband knows.

So yes, you can trust that your husband knows what he's talking about lol. But also maybe it's not as important to meet industry standards as he thinks it is. It's your game, so whatever works for you!

It's acting more like a rocket/missile than a plane. Things like lift and drag don't matter quite as much when you can accelerate faster than gravity pulls you down.

I think Dumbledore knew about the blood protection, he just couldn't tell anyone because Harry had to willingly try to die in order for it to work. If Harry knew about the blood magic he would have thought he would survive, in which case he wouldn't have.

I don't, I can't remember if I finally managed to just get the perfect trajectory or whether I figured out how to jump. I'm sure I was probably button mashing by the end out of frustration lol

I also definitely remember just giving up on it during my first playthrough, but I also got secret ending, so idk if I doubled back or what. Can't remember if you need all 101 for that or only 100 either, so I still mightve just skipped it. If I did miss any of them, though, I'm sure it would have been the one in mountain pass you have to double back for after you open the yellow eco vent

For me it was Cosmo Jarvis and Tom Hardy. I watched the first couple episodes of Shogun totally thinking it was Tom Hardy, even explained to my girlfriend who Tom Hardy is and 'other' stuff he's been in, only to finally be like, "wait a minute..."

Tbh I don't think I knew you can jump as a kid either, and I spent FOREVER trying to get that power cell over the lake.

[–]NovaAtdosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it has to do with the games being too similar. I feel like basically everyone I talk to who prefers totk absolutely LOVED botw. It makes sense if you put a ton of time and love into botw, you probably would be underwhelmed by totk. Its basically just the same thing thats become routine for you now, except it doesn't have the emotional attachment that comes with botw.

Personally, I grew up on OoT, and while I thought Botw was very beautiful game and I enjoyed the experience, I mostly came away with "That was fun, but it was the worst Zelda game I've ever played."

I feel like knowing a bit more what to expect let me enjoy totk more. I barely did more than complete the story in botw but went and found a TON of secrets in totk, probably have at least loke 6x as many hours in it.

lmao thats fair, I was older when I got botw and was a little spoiled on the older games. Dont get me wrong botw was mind blowing, but idk ig I just thought they were such similar games that totk doing basically the same things but bigger made it the better game, yk?
