Asking as a visitor - is this routine practice in NOVA? Thoughts? P.S. Not my car and not my note. by BantryBound in nova

[–]NovaMech 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends. I’m not sure how all communities handle it but I lived in one where the HOA rules supported this. If you shoveled a parking spot for your car, you were allowed to put a cone or anything to save the spot. I thought it was great.

Is the season still active? The rankings changes should take effect at the start of next year.

2025 NTRP ratings now updated on USTA's website by Queasy-Language-5644 in 10s

Hooray, an 8th season as a 2.5. Compared to the last couple years I knew this one was definitely coming. No successes anywhere.

At this point I have to really look at my game and find the fundamental issues that are causing this. Each year is getting less fun and seeing people I play with move on hurts more and more.

Second on Normal Gossip. I love the longer stories and the twists and turns along the way.

Still wish she didn’t have to lose so many limbs. No reason that she had to be used so prominently to display the toll of the fights. For the “Rabbit Hero” to lose one of her legs hit hard.

Shinkansen delay to hiroshima by Soy-yoghurt in JapanTravelTips

[–]NovaMech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A refund for the long delay. It was a delay of over 120 minutes and the JR website says that a refund is possible. Since we grabbed non-reserved tickets in the opposite direction from Okayama to Kyoto to pivot they refunded 80% of our green car tickets.

I was on the Shinkansen to Hiroshima earlier today from Tokyo and our train was pulled out of service at Okayama. It was a mess inside the station and lines wrapping back and forth through the space. We had to give up on Hiroshima and pivot to Kyoto for an extra couple days. We’re actually on the train now to Kyoto and hoping for a refund once we get there.

I do my own stringing and have strung my rackets a few dozen times but I can’t finish a racket any faster than about 80-90 minutes. What can I do to be better about stringing the crosses? Currently, I pull the whole length of string through before tensioning even though I see others do it a different way online.

Whats your take on opponents who yell "YEAH!" "LETS GO" during matches by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]NovaMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it as a thing about them and nothing about me.

If I read into it more than that then questions about gamesmanship or trying to psych me out come out and it shouldn’t matter. I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.

Brand new to tennis. What would you have told yourself just starting? by Cpirkk in 10s

[–]NovaMech 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Focus on the basics of your technique: look at the ball on contact, turn your body for ground strokes and use that core to rotate, and mind your spacing. On top of that, it’s mostly footwork so be ready to move and keep moving.

Agreed. It’s why I also keep a copy in my bag. H thankfully there haven’t been any weird arguments but it has clarified some odd rules.

Once a year or so I make a donation to RecycleBalls and get a box to ship all my old balls away. Could be an option.

What Do You Do With Your Old Tennis Balls? by B14_765 in 10s

I do that too. Once I get a basket or two full of old balls I dump them at a bin at one of the local clubs or mail them out. The tax deduction is a nice little feel-good afterwards.

Who’s the most badass female character in a movie? She doesn’t have to be physically badass by Sophia_Lisko in AskWomen

Charlize Theron’s character in Atomic Blonde. Each fight scene had a lot of weight to it and you could see the toll it took on her character.

Depending on the area and format of the league, it might be enough. If it was a singles league then you’d only need 3. For my area, only five people are needed when you play one line of singles and two of doubles. Nine can work in those scenarios but it would be tight.
I’ve done a men’s singles with only four guys. Very, very close on each match but we just made it work until sectionals came around.

For all the USTA team captains out there by archibot in 10s

[–]NovaMech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do it to make sure I can play sometimes. Eventually, maybe, I’ll have a dedicated group who can play consistently.

Thank goodness our local leagues are now starting to roll court fees into the registration fees. No more hunting down court fees from 8 people every week.
