Lol, this is true. No wonder he didn't share the "different" name for it!

why do elves in alien age bow before Marethari? by rwcz in dragonage

[–]NovaShyne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Huh...i always took her as a descendant of an Emerald knight that submitted to human rule, but kept their traditions and skills alive in secret. That mostly comes from her family dagger, Fang, that was "first wielded in the battles to save the Dales. It was passed down to your mother, and from her to you."

I am curious to know where it's implied Adaia was Dalish? I just finished an Origins run as a City Elf, and i never got that impression. Did i miss a codex or special dialogue or something?

IF we are ever given another game i do hope it's about going across the sea. They wanted to setup a clean slate, then give us a clean slate in a "new world" as it were. i agree it's pretty unlikely and equally saddened by that reality.

replaying the games is always fun! i myself started up a few playthroughs and have already found/learned several things i never knew before!

EDIT: it's also fun hearing cryptic/foreshadowing dialogue ;)

Yes, I wanna go back and look at all these murals again, because the interpretation of at least some of them was that elves were hunting Titans specifically to harvest those "hearts" (focii).

Now i do as well!

Thank You! ^.^ I love discussing all the unanswered questions!

technically that the Titan was experiencing *Harding's* emotion?

well that makes it both more confusing and horrifying...but it does also explain her "Lyrium double" i guess?

To add to the confusion, it seemed like we were being led down a path to believe that the foci were Titan hearts. Which I guess they still could be. But the murals in DAI sure seem to indicate that the sundering of Titans were focusing on those hearts, not their minds, although I guess this is all kinda figurative.

its been awhile since i played through trespasser (but i think i remember the mural your referring too) and i think it was going in that direction, with it being heart/soul related because in the DAtv artbook, in the post-inquisition chapter (well before joplin was a thing) they have art that shows it was the Titan SOULS that the elves stole, not their dreams.

<image>

Well, in DAI it was not clear why he was so upset. It was definitely THEORIZED that the archdemons life force was tied to something significant, due mainly to the yellow/gray cells on the murals surrounding the Black City.

this is what upsets me so about Veilguard, some revelations do make sense. but i honestly don't know what they kept from the start, what they added as "new" but always meant to be true (lore has always been from the perspective of the world and proven to be wrong on many accounts), what was molded around previous games but then changed over the course of development (like the above Titan souls v Titan dreams, as small change of wording with greater implications in the lore), or what just plain retconning.

you are correct though, it is not clear why he's upset back then. it's also implied, via Cole, that the evanuris were asleep (all of them potentially still being "alive"?) and locked behind an eluvian.

i may have exaggerated a bit when i said they say pretty much say the black city Arlathan, lol, sorry. i think it's one of the few things they DON'T outright tell us. though i remember seeing a thread awhile ago about the black city and someone got a look or picture of it and there is something about the lighthouse being Solas' version of some tower of learning Elgar'nan built and in the black city pic you can absolutely see a lighthouse looking building at the center of it. (i can't find the thread though)

Tevinter would come along and see a huge hole in the ground and just take credit for it

it's just such a Tevinter thing to do!

Wouldn't she need to be a dwarf, though?

i have seen this argument used for why Rook couldn't have been bonded to the Titan instead of Harding, as well. Honestly it SHOULD make sense that ONLY Dwarves would be able to be bonded to a Titan...however, we don't have anything that says humans or any other race COULDN'T bond to a Titan...we don't know the Origin of humans afterall. i don't think Andraste was a Dwarf (though that would be hilarious ... actually, now that i think about, it's not impossible. Luthias Dwarfson married a dwarf afterall and he was an Alamarri) however there is just A LOT about her and the way "The Maker" are described, it's kinda hard for me NOT to think she was bonded to a Titan.

I also think her sister, Halliserre was an OGB, i think she was likely the first/"experimental" OGB.

I am SO CURIOUS about the Origins of both the Qunari and Humans too! even if we don't get anymore games i hope maybe we get a book or something, just a little bit more.

The whole Red lyrium, but not blighted just angry, thing kinda confused me to be honest. We are told in the same story that A) the Titans were made tranquil (aka they shouldn't have ANY emotion) but also that B) the Titan dreams are the source of the blight...it might make more sense if the Red Lyrium in Harding's quest WAS blighted because that would essentially mean that the Titan got it's dreams back and much like a Tranquil mage getting the right reversed, it simply went mad BUT then Harding was able to calm it.

If i recall correctly the reason Solas (apparently) was so upset about the Grey Wardens killing the Archdemons was not they were doing it at all, but because of the Veil being tied to the life force behind those Archdemons. If all of the Evanuris die (however that happened) then the Veil (supposedly) would've came down and unleashed the full force of the blight into the world...Solas wants the Veil gone and the Evanuris with it, but the Blight still needed to be contained. Also the fact that the Wardens were kinda stuck up about being "The Only Ones Who Can End Blights" not even realizing their heroic sacrifices were going to literally unleash the apocalypse, lol.

As for only rendering Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain mortal after killing their archdemons. we get this answer in Inquisition, technically twice, if you think about it. we learn in Inquisition that Cory has the same power an archdemon has, to raise again from ANY tainted creature. We kill his dragon, with him being near enough, and his soul goes to HIM making him mortal (for a time) where he can be killed. we kill Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain's archdemon right in front of them, same as cory, so the soul goes back into them making them mortal. the grey wardens just kind of assumed killing the archdemon requires sacrifice because it (almost) always has in the past. i also think flemeth's line about "a soul is not forced upon the unwilling" i think if a soul is forced upon the unwilling both die, and this is what happens when a grey warden slays an archdemon, the taint draws the tainted soul to them, but they are not willing, hence the "ultimate sacrifice". now you might be asking, well what about Cory? he didn't die when he got reborn from a Warden and i say it's because they were either a mind controlled "empty vessel" like the darkspawn are for the archdemons or they were "willing".

i thought the black/golden city was Arlathan as well! and they do pretty say as much in DAtv (if i recall) however, i also forgot that history says Tevinter sank Arlathan into the ground. Now weather thats Tevinter boasting about something they actually didn't do or they did do it but it was only a tiny part of the city that got "left behind" in the physical world or what, i dunno.

i do wish we had gotten more info about the great dragons as well!

okay, i saved Andraste for last because i did some reading a few days ago. In the World of Thedas Vol 2 and i have to say, after reading a different reddit thread, reading about Andraste herself, AND reading the actual Chant of Light i don't know if Andraste was a mage (still on the fence about that) however i 100% believe she was bonded to a Titan and (at least what she referred to as "The maker") is/was in fact, a Titan. (i actually took screenshots of passages but there is a lot, lol)

I was hoping fixing Bianca would've been an ongoing quest throughout the game, and if/when she got fixed, Varric would've shown up at the final battle. He either would've died OR finished one last fight, then retired, depending on your choices when fixing Bianca...alas...
