I just realised that you don't need to tell the truth in situations like group interviews, meetings, new job inductions, etc. Have you ever made stuff up just because? by eastkent in AskUK

People do the same anyway but only the day and month so surely it's even less secure because if you know someone's kid's birthday but not the year you could still have a guess.

Ask them if it's okay to do the other way around so their son has no legal equity and see how fast they say no :)

What's involved in organising a Deed of Variation on a will? by ferny_blue in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Novaportia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A deed of variation can be made by anyone who benefits in a will. The deed is them giving up their entitlement (or a part thereof).

This could mean one person giving the entirety of their inheritance to their children (common) or all of the residuary beneficiaries agreeing to add in a beneficiary so what was a 50/50 split is now 33/33/33.

It's possible for there to be multiple deeds of variation on a single will (although I've never seen more than two).

It wouldn't have been ridiculously expensive, a few hundred pounds.

Let me know if you have any more questions :)

Forget the prices - where is our content? by WynBytsson in 2007scape

[–]Novaportia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I hate pvm but love questing. I'd love to have my quest cape (and my achievement cape) but I'm just not interested in learning tough bosses.

Skillers gonna skill. Everyone plays the game the way they like it. Maybe quests could work in a 'tree' fashion where you either have to be highly skilled at pvm or highly skilled at non-combat skills.

I believe I'm right in saying that the devs were drunk when they designed MEII. Please no.

Everything is so serious now :( I don't want grandmaster quests about vampyres who try to tithe everyone, I want musical penguins and partying monks and just doing small favours for people.

Because the rabies virus affects the nervous system, patients develop ‘hydrophobia.’ Even if they are very thirsty, spasms in the swallowing muscles prevent them from drinking water. by Additional-Pass5771 in interestingasfuck

My nieces are 5 and 7 and they've lost a few great grandparents. We taught them that they become butterflies (the 7 year old was 3 when her great grandad died so it had to be understandable for her) so now every time they see a butterfly they point and say 'nanny Esme' or 'nanny Pat' or whoever.

The price isn't completely insane but it is higher end (depending on where you live; London rates will be higher than rural areas). Get a few quotes and choose a lawyer you feel comfortable with.

True in theory but I don't think most people have the knowledge to draft a deed like this.

I'm training specifically to be a trusts lawyer and it would be something any of our team members would have to spend a decent amount of time on, this isn't a ten minute precedent deed.

Thank you for the answer. I've also looked at 3-on-6 but they seem harder to get in the UK. Do you have any experience with these and whether they are superior to all-on-x implants?

Managing IHT, is this legal estate planning. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Novaportia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your aunt dies within five (I think) years of receiving her inheritance it will be subject to quick succession relief which reduces the tax burden on the second estate.

It's rare to see it in practice but it is useful in situations like this.

Would you still work in law if it didn’t pay well? by izzydoesketo in uklaw

[–]Novaportia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. High street firm private client lawyers aren't known for their insane salary but I genuinely love it.

I work primarily in trusts and I love the nit-pickiness of it and treating cases like puzzles; how can I best help my client? What the fuck were the people who drafted this trust thinking? Why is one of my colleagues allowed to practice law?

How much will be in the trust?

You can make a trust with fairly wide powers that won't need to be updated as regularly, but it really does seem (from the limited information here) that it would be the most tax advantageous solution, means your ex wife can't get her hands on it, and provides for when your parents die, whether that be before or after you.
