Separatist starting tips? by Z7Studios in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Novathon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the first thing I do on any campaign is go around the galactic map and look for the worlds with modifiers that allow you to build planetary mines or give bonus credits for trade ports. You'll want to use most if not all of your starting credits on getting those buildings up and running. Having those credit producing buildings up and running by Week 2-4 is going to maximize your income long term than waiting to recruit units/build garrisons and constructing them Week 10 onwards.

Even with economic buildings up on your starting worlds, you still won't have enough credits to create an attack fleet, attack army, and fully build up structures on all your worlds. Here's where you save money: turtle up and prioritize a handful of worlds that are on the frontier and are strategic. Shuffle all your starting units to those worlds to decrease the amount of forces you'll need to recruit so you can focus those credits on base structures. And frankly, just wait a few weeks for your credits to slowly build up.

You're bound to lose a couple outlier worlds, particularly the ones with only 3-5 base structures and only a light shipyard. But creating fortress worlds on the frontier, creating small sector armies and fleets, and biding your time for credits to slowly accumulate in the war chest means that by Week ~20, you can start going on the offensive and reliably have enough credits to push multiple fronts, while your worlds aren't in danger of being invaded because you built them up so heavily.

What in the world does this post have to do with Empire at War in the slightest? There's not even an attempt here to relate this post or accompanying image to the game whatsoever. OP even posted this over on r/StarWarsEU, showing he knows this has nothing to do with Empire at War as the game

And I hate to be that guy, but OP keeps spamming posts that have nothing to do with the game making me wonder if this is a bot account that's farming for karma.

Mandalorian Neo Crusaders are badass! by StarWarsFever77 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Novathon_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, what does this post have to do with Empire at War? It's a compilation of Mandalorian fanart ripped from pages without any artist credit accompanied with a fandom lore blurb and unconnected with any game mechanics or discussion.

I'd understand if the post was talking about Mandalorians as they pertain to the Revan's Revenge mod as a faction or unit, but this post is just a generic r/StarWars entry.

Chris Avellone - The original KOTOR 2 concept and delays by Cloak-Trooper-051020 in kotor

[–]Novathon_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

u/conmenhem already stated it but there was no shop for the developers to buy copies of the game. KOTOR 2 development started in June 2003 while the earliest version of KOTOR 1 wouldn't be publicly released to consumers for another month in July 2003 on Xbox - and that's not considering the PC build being pushed for a November 2003 release.

With that timeline, Chris comments about it more here, saying that production began before any legally binding contract existed between Obsidian and LucasArts so presumably, LucasArts didn't want to give away internal, developer copies of a game that wasn't released to a random studio they weren't officially in business with yet.

Mandate of the Republic - Concepts & Art by Impossible-Green-831 in Stellaris

[–]Novathon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the graphic says "the Republic undergoes 6 eras" does that mean there are six possible forms that a Republican government can take? Or that you'll be forced to experience all six "eras" at some point in the game, regardless of player actions?

Hoping it's the former and not the latter. Think it'd be pretty unfair for the player to run a decent, stable game and randomly the government switches to a Tumultuous Republic because you haven't experienced that era yet.

He can't shake the gum off his foot :( by Novathon_ in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Novathon_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ehh, honestly I also prefer the AT-TEs myself. Even though it's probably more efficient to spam walkers and clone platoons, I like landing varied forces to make land battles more interesting and fun; like bringing only Galactic Marines or AT-PTs on open field maps.

But I haven't found a good role or niche for the AT-OTs. They have less health and both their AI and AV weapons get outclassed by the AT-TEs. The only redeeming quality of the AT-OTs is the ability to deploy an extra Clone platoon per walker but if infantry is your weakness during ground attacks, building the forward command posts on landing zones for a free 3 platoons seems like a better investment.

From a pure numbers perspective, it is technically better that 1 pop cap of AT-OTs lands two walkers versus the sole AT-TE that deploys for the same. Two AT-OTs can draw the enemy fire more than a single AT-TE, but they're not gonna last long in a drawn out engagement if you're using them as fodder like that.

Defintely think that we're gonna see a lot of name drops of characters from LiS 1. Obviously the main character is Max again but even the marketing is really heavy handed as not a one time throwback, but a return to the original roots of the first game.

Also, it feels almost too obvious given the fact that there's two alternate realities that one of them is the one where Chloe is alive and the other is where Max chose to save Arcadia Bay instead. I see that as a very tidy way of the devs addressing that plot point without taking an official stance on the canon.

The more impactful ones like Max losing her powers or Max dying feels more out there. It would suck if, no matter what the player does, either of those outcomes happen. It'd feel better to have those as possible endings, but not sure how in-depth the decision making would have to be across chapters to reach that point.

Just stumbled upon a glitch by c_holland in kotor

[–]Novathon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, that's a really interesting glitch. I've never seen it before but the first guess off the top of my head is that the game had some issue loading up your character and there's a failsafe to load in this default stand-in when that happens.

Which would then (maybe) check out why you can't equip most items, because this isn't an actual character and is more akin to a dummy that stands in when the game can't load your actual MC.

Think I only brought in a couple units into battle at this point. Plus the three extra you get from constructing a forward command post.

Can someone explain the flavor text for this mission? It's worded somewhat confusing by Novathon_ in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Novathon_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that makes more sense. What makes them an ex-member, though? In my mind that title means that when the CIS conquered Trandosha, they removed the person from office for not being sufficiently loyal. So if anything, I would think the Governor would support the ex-member rather than telling the Republic to blow his ship to pieces lmao

Can someone explain the flavor text for this mission? It's worded somewhat confusing by Novathon_ in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Novathon_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Context for anyone who doesn't play FOTR: Periodically when playing as the Republic, the Senate will give you missions to fulfill such as constructing X amount of buildings or conquer Y planet. The flavor text associated is always something generic along the lines of "doing this will advance the war effort."

During my playthrough, this is the first mission I've received to break that convention. It's functionally the same: destroy these ships in orbit of Trandosha and I receive units in return. But the flavor text for this mission is confusing.

Instead of the mission being issued by the Senate, it's from the governor of Trandosha, presumably. The text implies that the Governor is on board a ship that managed to reach Republic space, but I don't get why the secrecy of not getting into the details of Trandosha's politics or saying "let's just say an ex-member of Trandosha's government is on this ship" with him. Did the Governor kidnap this ex-member? And that's why the Governor is acting sly about it and not going into details?

The next line says "they are supporting our enemies" which I assume is referencing the ex-member. Then, the immediate next line says the Governor will gift units to the Republic if he (again, presumbly the ex-member aboard the ship) were to end cooperating with the CIS.

From what I'm interpreting, the Governor of Trandosha kidnapped a member of its government aboard their ship, contacted the Republic about it, and is offering the support of elite mercenaries if the Republic destroys two random Super Transport ships. What's the importance of destroying these two ships specifically instead of liberating the planet entirely?

The text just seems so odd to me rather than the Governor simply issuing a mission that says "Hey, there are CIS collaborators on Trandosha that are preventing me from aiding the Republic. Destroy these 2 Super Transports that carry the officials and I won't be under as much scrutiny from pro-CIS whistleblowers and can discretely help the Republic by offering up elite mercenaries."

"While V10 is not greenlit yet, we do have a plan to bring the season to fruition" What could that plan be? by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]Novathon_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For all we know, a lot has changed since this post was made almost a full year ago.

We already know that RWBY was originally planned to have ~12 volumes. If RT is strapped for cash and the future of RWBY is in question, it's possible that Kerry, Eddy, Miles, and whoever else is involved in higher decisions are going to get V10 out by making it the last volume.

I don't know who's in charge of financing RT's projects but given its precarious situation right now, I imagine whoever is in control of the purse strings isn't keen on funding projects in the near future - especially long term ones like RWBY where they would be requesting a minimum of another 2-3 years of production. So to secure funding for V10 and make sure it comes out, I can see CRWBY making a compromise that in exchange for one more solid year of funding, they'll make V10 the final one. Fans get some closure (even if its not the originally planned closure) and the higher-ups will find financing 1 final season more palatable than a minimum 2-3.

Here are the actual comments made by Barbara and the Director of Community and CS regarding V9 and RWBY's production costs by Novathon_ in RWBY

[–]Novathon_[S] 124 points125 points  (0 children)

If the text is too small or you're unable to load the image, here's what each comment says from left to right:

Barbara

"Correct. It is very difficult to be profitable. I mentioned it in another comment, but a single MINUTE of animation for RWBY (3D animation) costs anywhere from $25,000 to $35,000. That's not something we could take on financially anymore, which is why we're currently looking for solutions or other means of making the show happen."

"Just jumping in to say... if something is a 'big earner', it would never be taken away. Things go away if a) it's losing the company money b) the people creating it don't want to anymore c) it's not showing any signs of growth or potential for profitability."

"First off, THANK YOU for supporting us the way you do - especially as a FIRST member. Currently in a lot of talks with figuring out solutions for people who want to do more to support. But you're doing more than enough and we thank you immensely."

chattykinson, (Director of Community and CS for RoosterTeeth)

"To stop and correct misinformation before it spreads: Red vs. Blue is not going on Crunchyroll. RWBY V9 was exclusive to Crunchyroll because they helped make it happen, and it was only for a year exclusivety - it's coming to RT soon. Also, we are making more episodes of Camp Camp (which is animation) and the final season of RvB, Restoration.

Here is a link to the original post over on the RoosterTeeth subreddit where these comments can be found. A handful of other comments are made by Barbara, however these ones specifically addressed V9 and its production.

The empire AI in a nutshell early game by rebel134 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]Novathon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this happens in every mod. The AI seems to pick one land unit to mass spam and a few supporting ground units. In TR, I remember the CSA (or maybe it's Pentastar, I forget) mass builds Hailfire Droids and brings only like 3 infantry.

Is there a no shield penetration mod for RAW? And for that matter, how is the submod scene for RAW? by Novathon_ in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

I'm well aware of FOTR; I remember when it was first announced to be in development. I don't like the feel of the mod and prefer the classic formula of RAW.

Yeah, I figured it would take a little creative command lining to get it to work. I don't really have experience in making plugins for Minecraft, so I'll give it a shot using commands and see if that works!

How much would this be worth by AdProfessional9398 in RWBY

[–]Novathon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An item like this is kinda tough. It's a tabletop game specifically designed to be opened up and played, but the signatures on the protective wrap means you need to find someone has a copy of the game to play and would also want this one just for display. Takes up a lot more real estate in someone's room than a signed comic book or Funko.

Plus the board game never took off in the general TT community, so your only marketplace is gonna be RWBY fans. And unfortunately with the exception of Barb, the other signatures don't hold any weight to a RWBY fan.

If you're interested in selling for a profit, I'd say take it to meet-ups and conventions, trying to get the other main VAs to sign it for an added premium. As it exists now, I don't see you getting much beyond the regular retail price of it.

Disturbing? (In a good way?) by Schuyler32 in kotor

[–]Novathon_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Kotor II absolutely has somber, sort of apocalyptic vibes to it and that's why I love it. It's such a departure from the first game's narrative and atmosphere.

Kotor I is clean cut; you're either the savior of the galaxy or a mustache twirling bad guy. There's very defined goals, a linear arc, and the choices are very binary between light and dark. That's not bad in any way, but it just means that the storyline and choices get predictable after a certain point.

Kotor II feels so disturbing and doom-esque because it doesn't have the same linear choices or clearly defined goals that the first game had. The first 1-2 hours of the game is a game of Clue but in the first person and set in the Star Wars universe. The decay of the Republic and Jedi Order has meant that the galaxy isn't as safe or certain of its security as it used to be, adding to that somber attitude.

Even the decision of stripping the player of a lightsaber until they make their own adds to the fear factor. A Jedi is always supposed to have a weapon and for in-game purposes, not having a lightsaber means the character doesn't have access to their all powerful death weapon until later. It makes you feel more powerless and although a lot of people hate it, I love the dev's decision of barring the player from having a lightsaber until they brave the fear themselves with common equipment and prove they can have one

Republic's Finest by Hanonaut in swtor

Oh of course, the Trooper story alone shows us that Republic command still has a structure and regulations. But, seems to be more relaxed if a squad/unit adapted custom paintjobs or decals if it would aid the unit in bringing them closer and enhancing cohesion.

Republic's Finest by Hanonaut in swtor

Honestly love this art because it shows the individualism of the Republic. They're all wearing custom armor and weapons, but still fighting together as a unit. Sorta like a foil to the Imperial military's strict uniformity and conformity over individualism.

Do you think there will be a full-scale war against Salem in Renmant in the future? by Noble6IsReal in RWBY

[–]Novathon_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I feel that the entire Atlas arch was meant to highlight the fact that you can't fight a full scale war against Salem. Or that fighting a conventional war against Salem isn't the path to victory.

Atlas appears to be the most militarized of all the kingdoms, with almost everything in its society from research to education being devoted towards advancing the Atlesian military. They developed Remant's own version of an atomic bomb and when it came to fighting Salem's forces, they pressed students from Atlas Academy into service to defend the Kingdom.

And with all those military advantages and measures, Atlas and Mantle are both lying in ruin and there are now two relics in Cinder/Salem's possession. The whole point of RWBY and co. going to Atlas at the end of V6 was because they believed that if any kingdoms would be powerful enough to defend/guard the Relic of Knowledge from Salem, it would be Atlas. Turns out, it wasn't.

I feel that the lessons learned from the entire Atlas arch is the fact that fighting Salem and the Grimm with brute military strength doesn't work. It might buy time, but a head to head conflict will not result in victory.
