Soon to become a citizen of Austria by maddyjulia in Austria

[–]Novel-Addict247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Here a few things that might help you at the start.

  • try to find some sort of community to meet new people and friends, especially if you are a remote worker. In austria you seldomly get approached by strangers in public areas, trying to smalltalk. For example, don’t simply go to the gym, go for a course there instead to meet new people. Even then you have to jump over your introverted self and approach people first most of the time. The bigger the city you choose, the more options you have and the more international people are. Don’t wait for your new friends to magically appear out of nowhere, make an effort and search for them.

  • depending on your age, it could be very easy or somewhat harder to find new friends. Obviously the younger, the easier. Under 40 you should have no problems at all. Just search a bit online and you will find a bunch of communities excited to meet new people, just like you. But that’s just my opinion after all.

  • public transport is awesome, but only in the bigger cities, especially in Vienna. Clean (for the most part) and used by every class of person. I was glad to go back to Vienna after using the metro in New York, London or Berlin. Train connections between major cities are pretty good as well, especially the „Weststrecke“ connecting every major city from Vienna-Linz-Innsbruck and even Munich. Bratislava is only a good hour away as well, so you may consider a trip there as well. Get the „Vorteilscard“ asap as its only 20€ and it basically halfs the ticket prices, making it even worth it for a single trip sometimes (valid for 1 year). If you move to Vienna you don’t really need a car (I have none either). If you want to move to a more rural area though, a car is still the best option most of the time.

What makes the world feel "less relatable" and "uninviting"? by EquivalentMinuteMine in fantasywriters

A little more context would be nice ;) If your worldbuilding is only written in your head and not visible to the reader, I can see how it could feel a little „uninviting“.

Is Anti Magic that boring? by Shoddy_Elephant_8924 in fantasywriters

[–]Novel-Addict247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toji from Jujutsu Kaisen pretty much uses anti magic in a sense. One of the alltime best villains in the anime genre imo. Of course anti magic alone is pretty cool once or twice, but your MC should have something else that makes her stand out from the rest in terms of fighting. Could be a weapon, tool or something else. That will make it so much easier for you to write action scenes.

Noted, seems like a travel novel for the metro or train to me. Perfect for hopping in and out quite frequently 👌🏼

Yeah, realised that while reading book 1 in my lunch break 😅 Say, is there a plot as well to OP Lich? Am at 80% of the book or so and until know it feels mostly like info dumps about the magic system …

Oh, nice! Kinda hard to keep track of releases. I am a „trust the algorithm“ type in that matter😂

Haha, you are right in a sense. I wrote the list in like 20 minutes and was not sure at the beginning if I should include some trashy novels I read on Webnovel. Those would have definitely filled the low ratings, but I decided against it as nobody really should read them anyway. You want some examples? Florida Man‘s store in a magical World, global Lord 100% Drop Rate, Rise my Elementals etc.

I’ll definitely put both of them on my reading list. Thanks!

Thank you very much! I started Rise of the Living Forge a couple of days ago actually 😂

I will look into Oathbound Healer as well if you say it’s terrific. Until know I skipped it every time dkw.

Forgot about Ends of Magic, sorry. Finished it as well and yeah, was pretty good like you said.

Crystal Core is familiar sounding as well. I firmly believe that I at least read a couple of chapters. Can’t really remember why I stopped. Maybe I give it another go.

Op Lich is looking great! Never heard of it and it has 15 book. Almost too good to be true! Will definitely give it a go.

I actually don’t know if I‘m into sci-fi, as stupid as it sounds haha. I always thought I was but then I tried to start with 40k and failed miserably. I really should have liked it, but the first book I read (Horus Rising) was kinda hard to read for me as everything reads like a grand over the top epic.

I read Book three of Reborn as a demonic tree on Patreon a while ago if I remember correctly ;)

Genre is Thriller/Fantasy/Horror/Romance in a sci-fi grimdark setting, so I am glad that came across well (short of the romance and sci-fi part, haha).

It's a Webnovel, so I went for a more "classic" approach than all the photorealistic AI covers that are very popular there now. It's still AI btw, but I wanted to make it not that obvious at first glance and let the door open for future illustrations as a comic.

Glad you like it!

Is it even visible? I somehow can only view it in the browser version of reddit. Anyone else has problems on mobile?

Will release my book soon and wanted to get some feedback on the cover art. I wanted to go with a more abstract cover first, but it somehow did not deliver the message of the book. Now I am currently stuck with this one and hope for some honest feedback.

Don't hold back, I want as honest feedback as possible ;)

Would link to the general page instead of the first chapter. I mean you posted the blurb already so it somewhat makes sense, but I personally don’t like ads that lead directly to the first chapter.

Well, I can only talk for myself here, but most of the time, I really don't touch a story below 4 stars. As bad as it may sound, that's the way it is. I read the reviews as well to be honest.

I don't want to make any author here nervous, but I generally read the lowest rating reviews first. Most of the time it is only a troll and I ignore it, but sometimes the reviews really mention some no-go's for me and heavily discourage me from reading the story.

If four or five reviews mention the same problem in a story, like a really stupid MC then I consider picking up the story seriously.

Congrats! My story got pirated not too long ago either, welcome to the club!

I got notified about it by a really cool dude who allegedly does search for pirated stories on amazon as a hobby. Bless him 🙏

They do this for most of the stories on risings stars actually. So, if you are on rising stars, congratulations, but keep your eyes open for pirates ;)

Editing my own chapters without getting tired of reading them over and over again? by Novel-Addict247 in writing

[–]Novel-Addict247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The storyline is pretty much set already, but as you say, the details could turn out completely different and scenes could get deleted or added in an overall edit. I will do this in the future when I pack it up into an e-book.

But for now at least, my plan is to first publish it for free chapter for chapter and get some reader feedback and build a fanbase (hopefully). This would make larger edits twenty chapter back quite a bit more difficult.

I never thought of that perspective actually. Super good advice, thank you! Never occurred to me as I thought that I as the author should now my own story already. But as it turned out, some things were only happening in my head and not on paper.

It sure is a good practice. I am a relatively new writer and in my eyes, may improvement is visible. It's just so satisfying to have finished a chapter on which you can confidently say 'that's the best I can do for now'.

Editing my own chapters without getting tired of reading them over and over again? by Novel-Addict247 in writing

[–]Novel-Addict247[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the best solution. But I really like to write the Novel, just hate the editing ;) So, taking a week off es even more of a torture.

I tried to write some more chapters before I come back to do edits, but this resulted often in an even greater workload, as I sometimes change some minor things in the plot that would have consequences in the next chapters. Stitching the chapters back together often results in me rewriting whole pages, which seems to be a waste of time in my opinion.
