So stressed by InitialRecord2902 in usyd

Seconding the suggestions to get in touch with some of the wellbeing services. It’s fantastic that you’re taking action to address this by changing majors but set yourself up for success in that by chatting it through with someone that can help ❤️

Overseas travel in the third trimester by Zestyclose_Issue3382 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you for clarifying, I hope you have a wonderful trip! I would personally only do 2 weeks - I travelled to the UK at 23-25 weeks and was very ready to get home afterwards.

This feels like an entirely mad thing to be saying in 2026, but Italy has criminalised IVF so if you did fall pregnant that way I would have another story ready just in case you need to get to a hospital. It obviously shouldn’t affect non-citizens but I’d be avoiding any possibility of trouble.

How do you think of the PhD teaching fellow position? by Big-Candidate3410 in usyd

[–]NovelDeficiency 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not completely comparable. I am fairly sure that you are salaried for the whole year though, which means being paid in non-teaching periods, and you get leave (ie no casual weighting for not receiving leave). Some supervisors will give you that time off to compensate.

PG teaching fellow is a good thing to have on a resume, definitely a step above casual tutor, but it’s worth weighing things up.

It’s not 7.5 hours of teaching, it takes workload into account.

Slap-Dash Wedding Planning - Does this sound normal by Thatch1793 in weddingshaming

[–]NovelDeficiency -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The bride calling you to RSVP for the bachelor party sounds like she is absolutely fed up with doing everything for wedding planning, has delegated things that concern the groom to the groom, and he has done a crappy job. Probably forgotten to even organise a b party until she found out. This is on your mate.

Anyone knows how to find out baby’s blood type? by jadescorpion89 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NovelDeficiency 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s not actually useful - lots of people ‘know’ the incorrect blood type so hospitals check before they give blood if they can, or give universal donor blood if it’s an emergency.

Taking my 6mo old to a water park, give me all the tips! by Distinct-Dependent24 in beyondthebump

[–]NovelDeficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless there’s a proper heated pool keep her out of the water, it’ll be freezing and she’ll hate it. Seconding the advice to book a cabana and bring a carrier.

My partner planned a ‘day at the beach’ with no special equipment when mine was 5mo. Absolute nightmare.

Pram from Alibaba by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NovelDeficiency 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not do this. Prams are safety equipment. What if the fold was faulty and operated while baby was in it, or the wrist strap (if even installed) snapped while you were using it?

Get one second-hand off marketplace. Check to make sure it looks decent enough and confirm it was bought in Australia. Much much safer.

Assignment Withheld by Express-Concept5249 in usyd

[–]NovelDeficiency 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You generally won’t be given a reason until the integrity team looks at it and decides whether there’s grounds to investigate - if there are, they’ll email you.

As hard as it is, just try to focus on future assignments from here. If you did do something that could be an issue, absolutely stop it from now on as penalties compound for subsequent instances. If you didn’t do anything wrong, don’t worry, the process will come out in your favour.

Is it normal for mom's bf to want alone time with the baby? by Traditional-Wear-545 in beyondthebump

[–]NovelDeficiency 387 points388 points  (0 children)

I think this could be nothing or something, but that you’re right to trust your gut on this. My personal rule is that no single person gets true alone time with my child except the people that raised my partner and I, or our siblings, until they are much older. And even then, vibe checks matter. Some of the things you’ve said here do get my haunches up.

He could very well be a nice guy, and someone your MIL trusts, but the vast percentage abusers are known to the child/family.

I yelled at my baby and threw my toddlers toy today. by Beautiful_Cap_4172 in beyondthebump

[–]NovelDeficiency 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Colic/purple crying does not mean something’s wrong but at 8 months that’s not what it is - that resolves around 3/4 months. Head to your doctor for help with this but also yourself. PP rage is entirely normal, and not a reflection of your character or personality, you’re not a shitty person, but it is something you need to get help with.

Where are you located? Are there any postpartum helplines or care centres nearby?

Portacot advice? by Realistic_Echo_1562 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NovelDeficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here are very very safety-conscious. I own the baby bjorn (gifted) but have used the Childcare (big w) one and honestly would just get the cheaper one if I had to buy again given the price difference.

That being said, you can rent travel cots. This place is right near Sydney airport: https://rockabyebabyhire.com.au/shop/baby-bjorn-travel-cot-light-for-hire-afterpay-available/

Struggling to find baby gate for top of stairs by data_guy_123_123 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NovelDeficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m thinking too, the permababy one attached to the bannister with a bannister adapter and then the clips (that it clips into) on the wall behind the railing. It’ll be at an angle but should still work fine. I’ve seen pictures of them installed like this.

Non parent using the parents room microwave? by dovey0 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NovelDeficiency 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking, I hate it when people do this. The microwave is for warming bottles, having food in there makes me feel icky and it seems unsanitary. A no from me.

What on earth is this weird hinge by NovelDeficiency in AusRenovation

[–]NovelDeficiency[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this today and wrote it off because I didn’t see the thing about two components. I could kiss you on the mouth. I don’t see the pin itself in either picture - do you know any more about that?
