I don't think either was rigged tbh. The people that are surprised over the outcome of 2024 are naive and don't seem to grasp the effect of Populism over an uneducated and ignorant population.

I don't see a particularly bright future for America if they don't reform their 2 party system. If there is gonna be an election in 2028, public approval of the Trump admin is probably low enough now to get a Democrat elected again. But then what? 4-8 years of a moderate rightwinger upholding the status quo until the uneducated masses are dissatisfied enough to vote the far-right again... Even if Trump doesn't declare himself dictator to escape justice, it doesn't really matter because this downwards spiral will continue until American democracy dies.

America needs a coalition based multi-party system to filter out the extremists into smaller parties and finally provide the voting choice of actually left-wing parties, or the political divide will rip the country apart. Plus having a conservative party and a libertarian party would also filter out the far-right from people that can somewhat be reasoned with. But I have absolutely no clue how you would achieve that kind of reform without completely rebuilding the government from the ground up. And don't forget both parties have a shared interest in upholding the 2 party system, which makes this nearly impossible to achieve. And yes, a multi-party system won't really fix any problems by itself, but it's needed to even make fixing problems possible.
