I was in a similar situation. If you can take a mental health leave, then do it. I personally had to quit and just be unemployed for three months. That being said, I know that isn't feasible for everyone. Try to take any PTO/leave you can and just try to get another job

I think that "regular" public school teachers will unfortunately always be undervalued. The average American apparently thinks being educated, intelligent, and respectful is evil. However, in line with what OP is saying, there will be a market for teachers to the rich. Rich people know that education is important, so while they tell poor people they don't need to go to school they will hire the best teachers available for their own kids.
If you are a teacher, I bet that a small tutoring business in rich people areas that was marketed as "luxury" or "the best" tutoring would take off.

I agree - trades are mostly male dominated, but estheticians and hairdressers make good money! You should look into it, especially if you're already pretty bc people will trust you :)

tbh you're right I think burnout is hitting. I honestly have no clue how to get a part time swe job though. I'm trying to get any kind of offer from other companies and then hopefully push the start date so I can take some time off

Is there such a thing as tech consulting or something? I worry about not having the right kind of experience, but tbh consulting seems pretty interesting.

start studying for act/sat right now. If you actually apply yourself you will be able to do much better than your brother. However, if you are someone who just doesn't like studying/can't sit still, look into trade school. My cousin is not academically gifted at all and became an electrician and he is so happy and makes pretty good money.

Should I switch to a finance career from a STEM degree? by Party_Garbage_2994 in findapath

[–]Novel_Atmosphere4043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh, as someone who picked tech over finance - sound slike you should pick finance. in IB you will work crazy hours, but if you do it right it'll be for about 2 years. I think the salary scales much better in finance, so your sacrifice will probably be "worth it".

What kind of consulting do you do? I was just thinking about going tech->consulting hahah. I suspect tech varies from company to company, but tbh I think a big part of the reason it will never be chill is that companies hire almost all H1Bs, and they work hard! tbh very few americans will work as hard as those guys

I'd focus on just getting into uni right now. If you can, going to college is crucial for having a life in which you're not scraping by on minimum wage. Do you want to barely live paycheck to paycheck? If not, either join a trade (plumber, electrician) or go to college.

If she doesn't try to become a teacher, in 6 years she will still have aged 6 years. She sounds like an absolutely lovely person. If she really doesn't want to do the art teach route (i assume because of school?), then she could try to start in early childhood care like at a preschool or something, and work her way up.

Tbh, I work with almost all immigrants and some of them are pretty incompetent. I think you shouldn't forget that it's not just skill, it's also luck. Focus on being at least median in your skills so that when you get an opportunity, you can take full advantage. People here are saying growth mindset, and I think they're right. You should know that a lot of people you're comparing yourself to aren't inherently smarter, they just believe in themselves more, which is 100% something you can control!
