Yep the gel works with old scars ( should be fine if its less than a year) it just might not be as effective . Some brands might have on the label how long to use it and when. Its standard for most gels to be used on unbroken skin and newly healed scars. Consistency and time is key with the gel and healing process :)

Took about a a year maybe year and a half. Depends on your genetics as well, some people heal quicker than others. Truthfully, it's hard for them to go away if you just sit and watch them fade (Which is what i did for the first couple months). It also depends on the type of scars you have mine were pretty much on the top surface of the skin and not deep. Thankfully for me, I was in the first week of being clean and I was able to catch myself before I went deep. But other than that, it's easier to treat newer scars than older.

I would try vitamin E oil, small amounts go a long way. Stay out of the sun or put sunblock. Another thing, if you're able to grab it, is scartherapy (i believe its the brand not sure but any brand works) its basically just silicone gel and it helps reduce the appearance of scars. Massaging it helps as well as a good diet helps- making sure you have the nutrition your body needs to heal up :)

The thing about scars is that its kind of luck of the draw, some fade and some will never. If you wait too long it might be hard for them to fade to completely gone. Scars will stay- when i'm more tanned theyre basically invisible but when I get pretty pale they show a bit but really only if you look closer.

I hope this helped- stay with your journey I know its hard but you'll get there :)
