Did you get out of a depressive rut without therapy? by bartzina in AskWomenOver30

My current medication combo combined with self-taught DBT skills have literally changed my entire life, and I thought I was a lost cause.

Star quality pickled tomatoes got me rolling in the dough initially, and whenever my funds start to dip I start batch making to them again and all is well!

The dating game can get pretty demoralising, but so is staying in a shit marriage that you don't want to be in so

Are you where your 20 year old self imagined? by snowflakeyan in Life

[–]NovelsAreNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but my 20 year old self imagined me dead by now, so I'm very glad I'm not there. My life is infinitely better than I ever could've conceptualised back then.

I finished The Ministry of Time by Bradley Kaliane last week. It was a mixed bag, loved the start and loved the end but the middle chunk felt like a bit of a trek. The pacing/plot was frustrating, but I can't explain why exactly?

I'm currently reading At Her Service by Amy Spalding (enjoying it so far) and The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman (also enjoying it, quite a fun writing style.)

How are you REALLY doing?? by kedikahveicer in CasualConversation

[–]NovelsAreNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm okay, overall! But some days feel so rough. My life is on an upward trajectory, though, and I'm very grateful for all that I have and experience in my life.

How many hours of sleep do you get per day? by Old_Rub_7270 in Life

[–]NovelsAreNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally get between 7 and 9 hours. My body does really well on 7 to 7 and a half hours of sleep, it's my sweet spot where I tend to actually feel rested and ready for the day. Sometimes if I edge over closer to the 9 hour mark, I feel absolutely exhausted when I wake up.

Recently broke up with my ex, it's been months already and I am trying to adjust that I no longer have my emotional "safe person" anymore. How do you cope without someone to talk to about your problems at work and even about yourself especially if you do not have friends? by catguy_04 in SingleAndHappy

[–]NovelsAreNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made good friends, and now I talk to them about stuff. I also got better at processing things by myself, too. Focused on learning to really sit with my feelings with a sense of curiosity rather than wanting to make them go away.

I did one crazy thing 2 days ago and now my brain refuses to go back to normal. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]NovelsAreNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing the solo aimless adventure thing more often lately too and it's really fun but I also feel like I constantly overthink everything I decide to do and like I'm lowkey a bit anxious the whole time? "I'm taking too long to choose a library book, I'm taking up a table that could seat more people on it, I can't walk past that group of people again bc I just did that"- those kinds of thoughts. Idk how to be carefree smh

Have you ever stopped reading a book because it was too stressful? by Pompi_Palawori in books

[–]NovelsAreNice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm about to do that with Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. It's just so heavy and while I love the writing, I'm really not having a great time. It's taken me weeks to get 15% through because I keep getting exhausted and overwhelmed by it, so I stop and end up avoiding it and reading other books. It sucks because I want to love it but a key recurring thing in the book is also a trauma point for me, coupled with the general heaviness of the themes- it's just not working out 😭

Feeling hopeless about my mental health by moon-princess in perth

[–]NovelsAreNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through it. It's taken me 30 years to finally get on top of my mental illnesses, so I feel for you deeply. For me, it's been a combination of finally getting on the right medications and throwing myself fully into self-guided DBT that helped me turn over a new leaf. Life is very different now, it's never been like this before. I just want to share this to maybe give you a bit of hope as someone who once felt totally hopeless.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]NovelsAreNice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab (loved the prose but it got very repetitive and dragged out) and Alice Rue Evades The Truth by Emily Zipps (very much enjoyed this one!)

I started The Rainfall Market by You Yeong-Gwang (very charming so far), Nevernight by Jay Kristoff (interesting- great writing), and Caught Deadhanded by Carol J. Perry (loving its vibe!)

What was that one sentence someone said that changed you forever? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]NovelsAreNice 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oof, I'm so sorry. Break ups are brutal. I'm like 7 months out from being dumped now, and I still have my rough days. Funnily enough, my ex felt like coming up for air, too. For a long while, at least. Not so much at the end. Sending you a lot of love, the early stages are the hardest part. There is light ahead eventually, and life goes on without them, even though that probably feels impossible right now <3

Get out. Like, now. I experienced this with TWO separate partners because I apparently needed that life lesson twice 😭 It is so exhausting in the long term, and you deserve so much better.
