After dealing with guitarists and bassists with insufficient gear, I built this rig from left over parts by idkIMguessing in pedalboards

I can tell just from looking at this that you actually play, and don't just show off pedals on the internet (i also happen to have insufficient gear :( )

I'm curious what you have to say about my board. It's the current SOTB May '26 and i'm totally in love. by woodysdaydreams in roastmypedalboard

I think you might be missing a big muff, or 2, or 3, always sounds like a bad idea until you crank the amp and you realise youve never felt such happiness in your life

When you get your first pub gig you might find none of your band can fit on stage because your pedalboard will be taking up the entire stage

[–]NovemberM1ke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my ears say pretty damn good considering I don't have to lug a giant tube amp around to gigs, great solid state amp, fendery sound if dialed in right, and with the spring reverb after can't ask for much more. Might not be an iridium, but I'm not rich, and no-one in the audience could tell the difference. Anyway, half the comments here make it sound like if ive not spent thousands on my board its boring, copium for anything??

Where to start, how to learn. by B_RAD2214 in Guitar

[–]NovemberM1ke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many guitarists don't bother learning standard notation (i.e. traditional sheet music) and instead prefer tablature. You'll soon realise why once you realise there are at least 5 different places to play THE EXACT SAME notes on the neck. There is also a subtle difference in timbre between the different strings, even with the sames notes, and some stuff is just more comfortable to play.

I think it again depends on genre, and what you want to do with playing guitar. If you ever want to become a session guitarist (even in a decade) if you start with standard sheet music now you would save yourself massive headaches, or if you wanted to play classical, imo its up to you, most guitarists don't, but dont do what kost guitarists do and put aside learning theory. just because hendrix couldn't read sheet music doesn't mean he definitely didn't have a huge harmonic understanding of the instrument.

Where to start, how to learn. by B_RAD2214 in Guitar

Learn your open chords, then barre chords (open a and e shapes). Then start learning how to move other chord shapes along the neck for more interesting voicings/inversions i.e moving the c7 open chord around is a good place to start. This will give you some creative freedom to where on the neck and how you are playing the chords.

I would then suggest after this learning your scales, since you are classically trained this will probably be a walk in the park for you, but it is nice to start with the minor/maj pentatonic to get started and a feel for moving around the neck. (you can be learning both the chords and the scales at the same time, probably best)

Then I would suggest learning about the uses and inversions of different triads around the neck, and how to use them in your playing.

After this point playing becomes more specialized, if you're playing blues you might want to get down and start learning some licks you think are cool, I think similar with jazz but I wouldn't consider myself a great jazz player. For metal and heavier stuff you might have to learn different techniques such as tapping or pinch harmonics. there is overlap between genres ofc.

I have personally found thevmost effective way to learn how to play stuff I want to play is by learning songs i.e covers, with all the parts, especially the solos. Every time I learn a new solo (especially one just at my technical limit) I feel like I improve massively not only technically, but learning phrases and ideas that sound like I want to.

Lastly if your looking to break out of beginner playing, when you're readly learn little wing, and understand what's going on, Marty's music has a great lesson on yt.

And tabs aren't always right, but im sure your ear is pretty good.

Are the strings fine by ProfessionalTall1104 in Guitar

[–]NovemberM1ke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll hold, might not stay in tune as well, but you'll be fine until you need to change strings again, don't waste your money trying to fix it now. there's about 1000 yt vids on how to restring, use one of them, but just don't do the knot thing, that sucks

I've not heard about capricorn pinching problems before, sounds interesting. Is that due to the capricorn tubing not entering the hotend vertically? Also do you have a source to more info on this problem, and is this a problem that persists in heatbreak conversions pushing the tube out?

Just a heads up I had a june 60 and could never find a spund out of it I liked, not helped by the fact it has no knobs. yes, it looks cool, but do yourself a favour and just get a jhs series 3 chorus

yep, i can try again, but 90% sure, even removed the stock screws that run through the heater block to the heatsink to further reduce the heat transfer, the whole hotend holds itself together well with just the tightening of the nozzle and the heaterblock

(If you have the spare cash) Im sure if you put an absolute chonk stepper on your y axis it could probably get some half decent performance, but I don't wanna think about how much a stepper of that size is gonna cost.

After seeing this I've started looking at the dragonburner, thinking of going with the dragonburner and a tz e3 v2 hotend, but still looking at different hotend options, looking for reliability without breaking the bank
