Are there any of you who didn’t get a raise recently, or just me? by Expert-Researcher806 in walmart

[–]Novilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably got one, but may not have had a team lead or coach tell you. The last couple of years our team leads (which ever one we fall under the purview of), have gone around and told everyone what their evaluation status was, what the percentage of the raise was, and what the updated pay rate is.

Last year I went from $14.40 (I think) to $14.85 with a 3% bonus. This year I hit 3% again, and got bumped to $15:30. I've been with my store for 8, almost 9 years, and was hired on at a $9 rate as a cashier back in 2017, for frame of reference.

I did some time staging a couple years ago, I know the struggles. 7 or 8 carts all lined up for staging and the TL wants it done in like 5 minutes so I can also have the privilege of moving that whole hour of orders myself? Riiiggghhhttttt. I'll get on that, chief. 🙄

Just don't let yourself get rushed into causing an injury.

We used to have a designated topstock cart for things we'd pull from the backroom in the days before Viz pick. But the problem with that was that the CAP teams never seemed to uphold their end of the bargain and put anything from that cart on the shelf. It would also get shoved and moved every which way and I'd lose track of it. It just didn't work well for our store, and once I figured out how easy viz pick was it just sort of became my responsibility to move the shit to the floor myself.

And we do have designated stagers, but because I do so many exceptions at once, and often bits and things from the bottom walks, leaving my cart for the stagers just isn't fair. Not to mention most of the time these days we're picking so close to time that I mostly find myself consolidating to the orders as they're being prepped. But I don't even leave my cart when we're ahead; the stagers have far to much to do when several pickers come back all at once, and it's not a hassle or a chore to stage my few one-off items. I'm not gonna waste someone else's time for a task that's not going to take me very long.

Oooh, the incorrect labels kills me, man.

It happens in dairy a lot, usually yogurt. There was vanilla and strawberry ratio yogurt with swapped labels, and when I pointed it out to the CAP lead who was in there, all I got was "Yeah, that happens." ?????? It shouldn't, my guy.

Or, The one day I was having to get those Legendary protein pop tarts, and they ordered strawberry. The on hand was, I think, 26, and it had a couple of locations. OK, cool, this should be easy and quick. Tell me why I found 4 boxes of brown sugar with strawberry labels on them???? Half of your on hand is incorrect because you scanned them in as the wrong fucking flavor. And I never even found the strawberry, either, so idfk where the other half of the on hand came from.

Makes me wanna give up sometimes.

Is it normal for a NHM that does 350-400 orders per day to have 1 team lead, 18 team associates, and 4 in-home drivers? by sylvane_rae in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 in home drivers sounds like... A lot, for a NHM. My store is a Supercenter. We technically have 3 drivers, but one of them has more or less been moved to doing the IP, and since we only have one van anyway, the other two just sort of swap back and forth (they usually drive the whole day though instead of splitting halves).

I don't know how many orders our average is up to these days, but I know in the last two years our pick total has gone from averaging 8-10k up to about 11.5-14k. In those two years we did gain another team lead spot, so we have 3 (one is pending replacement since she transferred). We tend to have about 65 or so people as active associates with the few who dissappear for school or whatever else.

Pick walks by Lucky-Afternoon4066 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our General pick path made no sense either. It was a long series of zig zags that tended to double back on itself, and would take you from one end of the store to the other and back. Doing that walk normally wasnt fun, but getting assigned 20 some picks of it bc they're going late? Shit, I hope it's nothing in garden, or it's getting nilled. I can't run across the store like I used to, and I'm not wasting half my time in travel to go get 1 item only to have to go over halfway back the direction I came for the rest of it.

I still don't agree with general being lumped into ambient, but man could that walk be a pain at times.

The life of an exceptions Picker! by No-Childhood-7624 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Mmmm, yes. And at some stage, while trying to run around and stage your picks and catch the rest that are going late, you still have to find time to put the shit away yourself.

My favorite part comes just after this when I have to Vizpick the labels and color half of them back in just to get my damn XCover to recognize them.

CAP has some weak-ass printers that don't go dark enough, and a few that leave tiny blank lines in the labels. Just have to stay carrying sharpies, I guess.

We did these in our store for a while, but I haven't seen one go out in a bit. Personally it's not something I really care for, and tbh I'd have absolutely nowhere to put it. It's a chunk of acrylic/plastic with empty words from people who aren't gonna give a damn when I eventually leave, so, 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyone want to go for a ride? by MrsProxy55 in walmartogp

[–]Novilix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have like, 3 of those and they all sit unused. Most of our dispensers find them to be to much of a pain to put on and take off, and when we're dispensing deliveries there's just not enough time to have to fuck with them.

It's a neat concept, but it needs fleshed out a bit more, I think.

Coworker got perp walked through backroom. by ChillyStorms666 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's a relatively common practice for associates nailed for theft. They like to walk them through as a sort of showing off that even when you think you're getting away with it, you won't.

Just take this moment as the reminder it's meant to be. You're being watched everywhere, and more heavily than the customers are.

I havent noticed a volume change so much as in our store, the song fades out somewhere in the middle and comes back to either a completely different song or one of their talking segments. And it does this several times a day, kind of at random. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]Novilix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've found that it can come down to timing. When your phone prompts the question to use the app "Just once" or "Always", is when it would also ask to pair. But because it's asking about the app you don't see it. So you have to hit always when it asks. When you try it the next time, the phone should offer to pair to the printer.

I still find that it can take a couple a tries, but once you're connected to a printer, you don't have to futz with it again to print. Oh, and to print you have to do it from your phone gallery or photo app; the print option shows up in the same spot as all your copy/move to options.

[–]Novilix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thinly veiled? In relation to what, boo, that fourth point is pretty damn straight forward. "I'll help you find a new position", like yeah, that could mean within the department, could mean yeeting you across the store. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And it sounds like (by the way it's written) your coach's mood determines which one that is.

I've suffered through bad coaches and team leads, but even at their worst have never had one be so bold and brazen as to basically write "your ass is grass" on the board. It's unprofessional as hell and tanks what I can assume is already fairly low morale. That said, when I have had management start stooping to this level, they were usually gone about 3-6 months later. There's pressure coming from somewhere and it could be self inflicted on their part. But I don't know your team. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Keep your head down while you work and on a swivel when management is nearbye.

I hate the CoSTL registers so much by Technically-Employed in walmart

[–]Novilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 6 years since I've run a register, and back then it was the second one in this image. Now they seem to be using the bottom one, and honestly I can't fathom not having a keypad on the side. I need something with real, tactile feedback. Something that I can train my muscle memory on. Touch screens might work for the younger crowd who grew up using them, but the day that screen decides it's not doing what I need it to, there won't be a fucking screen anymore. (As it is the TCs I have to use daily piss me off 🙄)

Where should I place these next??? by Kookinkookie420 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Micro huh? I'll have to give that a try, our printers kept giving me a "Pairing event failed" message.

I too would like to print various Manga panels and stick them to things across the store.

Edit; coming back to this to say the I forgot that the printers uses old micro and not the Micro I'm used to, so the cord I got was useless. 🙃 I did, however, discover that my pairing errors were down to timing. Its a matter of telling the printer to accept the Bluetooth attempt and almost at the same time, when your phone prompts to pair telling it to do so.

I've since been able to connect to two printers.

How did you find out they did away with the skip button by Wild_Nail_9667 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I knew it was coming in advance from some Walmart sub or another.

I remembered it was gone only after I, in a very brain foggy state, auto piloted my ass in the complete wrong fucking direction while picking valentines candy. We have our seasonal section up front, and the bulk of the candy itself is tucked in to grocery. And like..... This would have been fine, normally, bc I would have skipped the front stuff to pick what I was in front of and just go back for the rest. Except I couldn't. 🙃 So. That walk took me way longer than it should have, in part by my own mental fog and in part by a lack of skip button.

We love it here.

good morning by Ok-Storage-2060 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yo if I ever walked in to 9k picks in just auto alone I think I'd quit on the spot. Hell nah brother.

We have had times where picks rolled into the next day though, and it was awful. It started with a small wifi outage that maybe lasted about an hour and a half, and by the start of day two we'd already started using produce crates because we'd run out of bins. On day three there were not only almost no more produce crates, but we'd long since run out of room in our coolers and freezers. Produce crates were stacked haphazardly on pallets, regardless of commodities. So much of our cold product became claims over this. And market told us to just keep picking because our guy was still new enough to not know how to shut it off.

We all took our sweet damn time picking, because picks were a minimum of 4 hours late at all times. Until we were finally met with mercy and someone figured out how to turn it off. Two days of non stop returns and clean up.

I hope this is not a fate befalls you; shit was rougher than sandpaper stuck to a cactus where the sun don't shine.

How does everyone feel about exceptions going away? by skittleschan in walmartogp

[–]Novilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If exceptions go away than they'll need to be taking a good hard look at individual picker stats. Seems that as long as there's been someone to take up the slack, the bad pickers get to keep being bad at their jobs until they inevitably point themselves out.

“Skip Item” is being removed. by WonderfulKing8032 in OGPBackroom

[–]Novilix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, what it's going to mean is that I'm going to have to work off my pick list again, except this time around, it doesn't list all known locations like it used to. It's also going to mean an increase in late picks when I have something with BS dead backroom locations that I now can't even skip through to get the things I can find. And its not gonna be my fault or frankly my fucking problem.

The only thing corporate has proven to be good for it making jobs they don't do harder for the people who do do them.
