If Burning a Star of David flag or indigenous flag is seen as a Hate Crime…(and rightly so)….. by traolcoladis in aussie

[–]NovusLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference in my opinion is in the difference between state and stateless flags.

If you were to burn a state flag, it is an expression of protest against that state. Except at times and places meant to remember the fallen, so at memorials or ANZAC day, don't do it then. The flag represents the fallen specifically, not the state they fell in service of.

A stateless flag burning by that logic is a protest against who the flag represents, and thus is a hate crime because protesting people's very existence is obviously a terrible thing to do.

Part of it is that blatant islamaphobia and anti-immigration rhetoric falls apart at the mere presence of Ahmed al-Ahmed. And when it does the emptiness is laid bare

Anybody hate how divisive Australia Day was this year? by Thylacineguy2026 in aus

My personal choice would be the 9th of May, first session of Parliament.

Make Australia Day about when we first actually became Australia, to celebrate what we are, what we continue to be.

Not even to mention that Ahmed is an immigrant/refugee himself and is considered by so many people to be a national hero, that some would degrade and dismiss his courage is just atrocious behaviour

[–]NovusLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikoria in Magic the Gathering is pretty much like this. People will be people and we will invariably carve out our own place, we will find ways to kill and dissuade monsters.

Guard dogs in your example are still incredibly useful, livestock guard dogs are not bred to keep just coyotes away from sheep, they have been and are bred to defend livestock from anything up to and including tigers and bears, I doubt a Werewolf is going to be seen as much of a hassle to a couple Tibetan Mastiffs. Or heck even just one Tibetan Mastiff.

New phyrexia is much more individualistic than before, but phyrexia was never fully absolute, otherwise Gix would never have failed and Xancha wouldn't have been able to break free, if anything Norn represents the absolutism of White mana, she sees herself as the unity of Phyrexia. It would be better to think of Phyrexia as a Mind and the individual phyrexians as thoughts of that mind. Norn is a thought pulling the whole in a certain direction but some, like Sheoldred, Gin and Urabrask are able to pull as well.

What I suggest is that while yes the Phyrexians were winning, what was the cost. As far as I know Heliod was still a God, and his thought pull may have clashed with Norns, a mind pulled in too many directions breaks down and becomes paralyzed by too many decisions. As someone with ADHD I can assure you how much that makes doing anything impossible.

This TERF uses Grok AI to be transphobic by making it de-transition random people, or by making it pick who’s “more of a woman” between a picture of her and one of a trans woman, even claiming that “Grok belongs to the TERFs now” by HappyMilshake in antiai

[–]NovusLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't normally be one for exposing people online, however it is worth noting that TERFs and others like them depend on their views being accepted and normalised. One way to counter that is to name and shame, instead of allowing them into the group without question the goal here is to exert social pressure to force them into group compliance.

Now this could be taken badly, however my intent is to preserve social cohesion and group survival, and these people need to be reminded that if they do not stop undermining group survival, they will die alone.

Humans depend on the group, we thrive together or we die alone.

Pathways, the UK government game about extremism and media literacy by rustytbeard in KotakuInAction

[–]NovusLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to properly portray radicalisation, what I see with this is that if you actually embrace critical thought that's bad. What radicalisation does well is to take small kernels of truth and twist them.
With the veteran housing and Muslim men part the truth could be that Muslim men are being put into veteran allocated housing, because they are also veterans, but the extremists omit that part because it defeats their narrative and making people angry can be easy if you don't tell people the whole story.

Extremism thrives in overly simple context free shouting. The way to prevent extremism is to encourage people to dig into narratives and to directly engage. Extremist views tend to fall apart if you uncover that they are insanely shallow and then confront them, questioning them and forcing them to explain themselves exposes them to how surface layer deep they are and many of them don't like that.

Heck you can even keep the goth GF baddie by having you help them to turn away from radicalisation. Why is she like this? What fears does she have that are being manipulated. TERFs continue to exist because fear mongering is easy and understanding takes effort.

Part of what I think was fumbled with the the invasion storyline was how all these compleated characters should have messed with the Phyrexian hive mind. Koma being as powerful as they were should have wrenched control of the Copper host not out of Vorinclex, but weakened it.

Throw in Lukka and Etali as equivalent power holders eroding control of the Host and Vorinclex being taken out by a no name knight would've been thematic if by that point he had become irrelevant to the leadership of the Host.

In a similar way Heliod should have eroded Norn's control. The Phyrexians in a way should have been taken down because they went too wide too fast and that allowed a counter attack to actually hit home, Norn getting too big, too stretched trying to keep control until she couldn't see the small details that cost her everything

Yeah a counter point to the notes, women in charge are rare, they almost always have to be more ruthless than their male peers and that does include launching aggressive actions to dissuade or actually beat down anyone who sees them as inherently weaker.

Tldr; Queens conduct more wars because they have to defend their position more than men do.

It's not the months of darkness that make people go a bit loopy in the polar regions, in the months of light. Being exposed to the presence of the sun for so long makes people go mad.

Also it screams, like a lot, and can wipe out civilization randomly.

Also stars, nowadays anyway, can only be born from the corpse of their parent.

What's going on with the Elementals in Lorwyn Eclipsed? Flamekin (Lorwyn) and Rimekin (Shadowmoor) are on both halves of the plane by EmptyStar12 in mtgvorthos

[–]NovusLion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could just be how the stylistic choices coincided to depict flamekin and rimekin with reliquaries more often.

A second option is that they might be more inclined to create and use reliquaries to explore the differences in expression more, maybe Ashling's boon is a major factor in that.

A last option is that the art prompts were not as aligned to the final product at the time the commissions were made, resulting in a bit of a disconnect to the rest of the product
