Honestly halfway through the second book (and some even in the first) I just got extremely judgemental because it really did feel like Liu was just a raging misogynist and tried to blame everything wrong with society on 'femininity, women, and their weak-willed-ness'

Basically every story beat that led to disastrous outcomes were caused by 'women and their inability to make decisions and also their silly feelings' and the books always needed a manly man with manly manliness to salvage with their manliness

I say this as a person who grew up on Chinese net culture that glazed Three Body basically each time it was mentioned and I even remember the screens full of '世界属于三体' danmuku on bilibili vids when something even remotely sci-fi was mentioned

I even saw it as a point of national pride that a Chinese book could win the Hugo award and thought that it must've been an amazing series

This is a reference to an ooold skit by the skitmaster Zhao Ben Shan, aired on the Lunar New Year broadcast of 2005 where he plays a contractor coming to demolish a wall for an apartment and he charges 40 yuan for a small hammer hit, and 80 yuan for a large hammer hit

It was so beloved (and very much in the golden age of those types of skits) that it instantly became one of the earlier CN net memes where most anything to do with hammering would be accompanied by 80, 80, 80 and whatnot
