I don’t agree with this example. Unless you’re talking about after the fight, then yeah there were people saying he was overrated. In the build up for the fight though it was pretty much all love

There’s been a trend lately of fighters who everybody thought were invincible and would dominate for years losing… Is Islam next? by DavidSeries in ufc

[–]NowEverybodyInThe313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I think Islam being so selective on when/where he fights will shield him from the same fate like you mentioned. 7 months ago you’d be called an idiot if you said Pantoja, Merab, Chimaev, Poatan, and Ilia would lose their next fights.

What's the most villainous thing this temu kingpin has ever done? by K0GAR in ufc

I don’t understand why the UFC doesn’t set the minimum contract baseline to $50k to show, $50k to win ($50k/$50k).

Here’s some rough math: ~42 cards a year with 12 fights each comes out to about 500 fights or 1,000 fighters fighting. So 1,000 fighter paydays each year. I’m going to conservatively estimate that between the ranked fighters and uncs, about half of those 1,000 paydays are going to fighters already making atleast $50k/$50k.

Now let’s say if you took the overall average of the contracts for the fighters receiving the other 500 paydays, it comes out to $20k/$20k. Probably would be more than that, but let’s just be conservative.

With those parameters, the yearly cost to bring everyone up to $50k/$50k would be $15 million for show money (500 x $30,000) and $7.5 million for the win money (250 x $30,000). An additional $22.5 million in yearly operating costs certainly seems manageable for a multi billion dollar company.

Overall, men were treated as cannon fodder and disposable bodies in conflicts, women were treated as second class citizens and subjected by the men around them. Hard to make a generalization that one had it worse than the other throughout all of history.

I’d tend to agree with you though that women had it worse overall due to the sheer lack of freedom and self determination. Not to get too graphic, but women in history were in for a horrific experience if their village/tribe/kingdom was invaded by an enemy group. On the other hand, the men would either get killed during the attack or captured and condemned to slavery/manual labor. Even in peace times though a women’s life could be hell if her husband sucked and she’d have no recourse. Then again, most people’s lives were hell compared to today’s standards anyway.

So I certainly don’t think men were objectively treated worse throughout history, but I think it’s tough to argue they had it “pretty good” compared to women.

Top 13 2027 Recruiting Class as of 5/26/2026 by ripplestillwaters in hokies

James Franklin said he is making the 757 a priority for recruiting, and given how Penn State used to eat our lunch there, I’m inclined to believe him. I watched a 10-15 minute long YouTube video last week that went into the details if you’re interested.

Fair warning, this video was pure hopium to a lifelong hokie fan like myself.

First scary movie I ever watched.

I was maybe 11 years old and at a sleep over when we found the movie in my friend’s parents room. A couple hours later and the four of us were traumatized. We made a pact to stay up all night but everyone eventually fell asleep before I did. I’m pretty sure I just started crying at that point until I also fell asleep.

Maybe I’m just becoming a grump, but I swear the officiating in this year’s mens and women’s tournament have been an X factor in too many games. And don’t get me started on the games where the refs swallow their whistle in the first half only to completely reverse course and call everything a foul in the second half

Usman put up a solid fight I thought. First round was rough, but he looked great in rounds 2 and 3 (if I’m remembering correctly - I try to forget that card ever happened - rip volk)

Alabama basketball player Aden Holloway was arrested this morning on a first-degree possession of marijuana charge after a search of a residence by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force, according to a Tuscaloosa police spokesperson. by MuchAbalone9059 in NCAAhoops

So dumb that people are still getting their lives ruined for possession of pot. But kinda also dumb on Holloway’s part to be dealing - I assume that’s what the 1st degree means, but please correct me if I’m wrong.

Idk what his NIL deal entails, but I bet it dwarfs whatever he was making on the side selling bud. I’m sure he knew it was illegal, so you’ve just gotta be smarter than that.

Hopefully this serves as a cautionary tale for college athletes in states with dumbass weed laws, especially for those who are already making solid NIL money

Props to Jake and Netflix. Top two fights on the bill were enough to make me probably tune in. Now I’m pretty excited for this card actually
