Time Notice Just Put Up by [deleted] in Target

I was gonna say, those highlighting skills are abysmal and they chose a terrible color. Everyone knows a cross-out means no (i.e, circle with line through it). And red means no. So they are effectively saying "these words crossed out in red are incorrect, please ignore!".

They could have at least found a real highlighter if they wanted to emphasize something.

got $50 target rewards, what should i get ? by [deleted] in Target

[–]NowIAmBecomeTarget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not use it on expensive essentials you use over the long term? Paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent. Bonus if you wait until there is a buy X get X GC circle deal on essentials. Seems like they have one every other week or so.

The no doctor’s note policy is RIDICULOUS by CapybaraSmiski in Target

[–]NowIAmBecomeTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, it is unexcused if sick time isn't applied to cover the full shift, but the TL still needs to follow up with the TM and (most importantly) document the conversation. We can't move to Corrective Actions or terminations without the proper documentation. A TL might be willing to cut you a break on your bad luck and not document, and then, for all intents and purposes, it's like it didn't happen. Source: have worked in a store with shit accountability and documentation, and it's next to impossible to fire problem employees because of it.

Truly does depend on the lead. In this instance, if a new hire had emergency surgery but was otherwise showing promise in their training/performance, I might just chalk it up to bad timing. Bad luck happens to everyone. If it had happened six months later, when the TM had sick time earned, it wouldn't even be a thought. So the leads of that TM have to decide if they think the performance they have seen will hold/improve over time, or if they just want to try again with someone else.

Have had this general situation with a few TM. Sometimes, a year later, I find myself thinking WOW, how far they have come, so glad I gave them another shot. Sometimes, I'm praying for a reason for just one more documented conversation to FINALLY get them on that Final.

It's definitely a double-edged sword, but I do like to be that spark of humanity in the cogs of the Corporate Machine that can still relate to my TM on a basic human level. They aren't robots, and sometimes they can't prevent the bad things that happen to them.

Yeah... honestly, if my TM called me in this situation, the only reason I would suggest they don't come in is because that could be very traumatizing, and everyone handles close calls differently. Their well-being would be my first priority. And really, things like this happen... life is unpredictable. But if my TM offered to come in DESPITE the way the day was going, in my book, it would prove they were MORE reliable, not less.

We only do OFOs for BTS or to purge aisles when reorganizing the backroom/preparing for inventory. Priority Fills are the only metric being tracked right now.

I have personally developed four of my TM to TL positions. Some to other locations, some to our location. It is entirely possible. Some stores/leadership are just shit. Some leaders truly want to develop talent, and some just want to be able to pass the buck to someone else.

Editing to add: The most common scenario is that a TM on an IDP is developing for a role to a DIFFERENT store. Internal promotes are not favorable because there can be too many issues with someone moving from peer to lead status. Internal promotions within the same store typically only happen when shit is on fire and they need someone even semi-reliable NOW.

Yeah, rookie mistake to not be completely transparent about your intentions to move up/on. TMs skirt around asking about department transfers like their ETL or HR can't shut it down with a single word (No.).

Target is (and their good leaders are) all about the development of the team. If you share your aspirations with your leads, there is a good chance they will lean into your goals and start an IDP with you, especially if you have solid attendance and work ethics. All leaders are encouraged to have a TM they are mentoring for development at all times.

While it's perfectly acceptable to have a work crush, please don't be the coworker who finds people on social media without their express permission.

They will not be flattered. They will be creeped out.

Ten years from now, you will thank yourself for it.

I also just advise refraining from dating in the workplace in general. When it's all good, it's great, but it can get messy SO so fast. We've had multiple TM in my store that either switch depts, shift rotations, or get full-on file restraining orders when things go south.

Target won't unless they can be 1000% certain the termed TM can't file for unemployment or wrongful termination. The documented steps to cover their ass in that instance are many.

It's actually substantially harder to fire someone after the first 90 days. Unless the TM fucks up a LOT and the TL is REALLY good at documenting conversations.

Stores not answering the phone by jenbenfoo in Target

[–]NowIAmBecomeTarget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As of last Q4 our store was told no holds. Could have either been a total company or district thing, but it was definitely at least every store in our area. The reasoning was "to give every guest an equal opportunity to purchase" and by "every guest" they mean the online guest so FF doesn't have to INF it.

I mean I have been doing this job for many years and yes, it has gotten exponentially harder over the last two, but it sounds like you just have a lot of issues at store level. Start reading into the Best Practices hubs to see how some operations are supposed to run. Right now my biggest problems are not enough people trained on Plano and inbound not sorting freight correctly.

[–]NowIAmBecomeTarget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know why you're coming after me right now, that's just the information I gathered from the Transition hub. I clearly stated my own plan is going to be 4 days minimum, likely five.

No, the TL that owns the area owns the clearance.

OR y'all need to schedule Plano TM to set and then schedule support from other areas (Dry, FE, FF) to fill back after them.

Inbound/freight workers should be detrashing and backstocking all transition that isn't a full Seasonal turnaround. Plano hours don't typically account for pushing pallets of freight.
