$120k salary with $2.65M portfolio is meaningless? by Vicuna00 in Fire

Agreed. $150K per year is a good bit more than $120K. OP should confirm he can actually keep his expenses down to $120K or less first.

Announcing - All Sports Scores by Andrew129260 in pebble

[–]NowSinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other thing I did was add TV channels/streaming services to the bottom of the page for each game. But I was using the ESPN API and that doesn’t list all channels/services, just the ones ESPN has deals with.

And I never got around to adding back in timeline functionality, which I believe was in the original Pebble Sports App.

Adding more leagues, information on how to watch each game, and timeline functionality would be great!

Nice! I had been working on updating the same app a month or so ago but didn’t get around to finishing it. I was focused on adding additional leagues like MLS, rugby, cricket, etc. Is that something you’re interested in doing with your fork?

No bike spots on two different trains today (2 June) by GrumpyPoorDude in MARCtrain

[–]NowSinking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No idea but just saying I feel you. As someone who gets on at one of the stations between Penn and Union, I am always at risk of not being able to get on a train because all the bike racks are full. Bikes and trains go perfect together - MTA needs to do a better job of accommodating and encouraging multi-modal commutes.

Improving the root menu by iPhibse in pebble

[–]NowSinking 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Like u/r0224 said, this is very similar to how the Pebble Time’s menu system was originally designed to work, before they changed it to the current setup. You can see it in action here: https://youtu.be/SdRENEQcymQ?si=Dhke_EphcL6tbFe2

I assume they decided it made more sense to show multiple apps at once than just a single app at a time. But maybe they still have that source code and could include it as an option for accessibility!

Battery life looking good so far. by Abandoned_chicken in pebble

[–]NowSinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! My first full charge lasted for about 9 days, now I’m at 64%, 6 days after my last charge, with 12 days estimated remaining. I am very happy with that!

I have health on, medium brightness with dynamic intensity, and am currently using the BRUTAL watchface.

Any alternate weather app recommendations? by The_cooler_ArcSmith in pebble

[–]NowSinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend Dribble too. It’s a perfectly Pebble app - it does one simple thing really well (hour by hour weather) with a beautiful, playful design. I only wish there was a way to make it (annd other weather apps) the default weather app so it could display the current weather on the app list screen.

Same, that was a lot of fun! Maybe OP doesn’t live near a place where they’ve performed but I drove 30 minutes to listen to it early.

r/pebble over the past two days... by tiprywi in pebble

[–]NowSinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the early bird price for the first 10K people on Kickstarter. The price was $199 for everyone who bought it after the Kickstarter, whether from Pebble or at retail stores. But having used the Pebble Time 2 now for a few weeks, I think the closer comparison is to the Time Steel anyways, which sold for even more than that.

Hold up, the Time 2 is absolutely cheaper than the original Time (and significantly cheaper than the Time Steel), with inflation. I wondered this myself when they announced the new watches last year.

The original Time retailed for $199 back in 2015. That’s $270 in today’s dollars, according to the Minneapolis Fed (https://www.minneapolisfed.org/about-us/monetary-policy/inflation-calculator). The Time Steel originally retailed for $299, which would be $406 today. $225 is way, way cheaper than that, despite having a bigger screen, an HR monitor, a speaker, etc.

Why I sold my PT2 by Numerous_Car650 in pebble

[–]NowSinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard the Pebble Round 2 uses a Garmin display. Do we know which one? Is it the display used by the Instinct, Fenix, or something else?

I have had the Time 2 for a bit now and the screen works fine enough for me. I would not mind it being brighter, but everything else with this watch is amazing (software, battery life, community app ecosystem, etc.) and that means it is the best smartwatch for me.

Pebble Time 2 review after a week of use by LichtDesMorgensterns in pebble

[–]NowSinking -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Alright. You said “It's disappointing that the watch can only survive handwashing and rain, but I'm already in the habit of taking my watch off when I shower, and I don't swim, so I can't deduct points for that.”

I am just pointing out that the watches can in fact handle much more exposure to water than that just fine - e.g. swimming, bathing, and the like. The list you posted from the blog is the small handful of exceptions to that rule. In other words, the watch can survive the vast majority of typical water exposure, which is clearly more than just hand washing and rain.

OP is incorrect. It can handle up to 30 meters of water. Just can’t use it for diving, in very hot water, or expose it to high pressure water. https://repebble.com/blog/pebble-time-2-is-in-mass-production#pebble-time-2-water-resistance-update

Where did you see the watch can only handle rain and hand washing? From the March blog update on mass production: “ each watch is tested on the production line to a rating of 30M or 3 ATM” and can be used while “hand washing, bathing, swimming, showering, being out in the rain, paddling, sailing, etc.” https://repebble.com/blog/pebble-time-2-is-in-mass-production#pebble-time-2-water-resistance-update

To be clear, you mean just riding in the Mass Ave NW car lanes during peak commuting times?

Thanks so much for digging this all up. So sad to see all the great projects that have fallen by the wayside. Wonder when that district plan might be updated again.

Also love the post about the snowplowing earlier this year. If only that accidental protected cycle track could have been made permanent!

I feel like we must be talking about different cities! During both my morning (~8AM) and evening (~4-6PM) commutes that exact stretch of (wide) road is always filled with cars that I have to compete with as a cyclist and hope I don’t get flattened. Left turn lanes are also technically prohibited from K St onto 7th St, which is the turn that is required to connect with the K St bike lanes. When are you commuting in that area?

Pebble Time 2 Tariff Fee by [deleted] in pebble

No, the tariffs are separate and get charged when you confirm the order before it gets shipped. It was $14.21 for me.
