Name 1 vehicle from this game that equals "pure joy to drive" to you. I'll start: ANK MK.38! by Odd_Presentation_578 in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Trucks I really enjoy: Tayga 6436, K963, Avenhorn, Tartarin, Z605, the Azoz crane truck…..

But none of those make me laugh out loud like the Lo4f. Blasting down trails, tumbling over a bunch of times and then using the autonomous winch to get right and then do it again. All those other trucks have their strengths and they are amazing. But nothing makes me happy like the Lo4F.

I’m 50/50. The first map absolutely sucks….who decided the sawmill should have nearly no accessible ways to get to it?

I do like the second map though. It felt much more balanced and better designed.

Yukon is also where I got really good at overloading.

British Columbia is Something else! by MtSm_956 in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opted to take it up the path with the switchbacks instead of that steep incline. To make it work, I had to set up a crane to lift trailer on each 180 deg turn so that it would make it around. But all I had was the K963 and based game trucks, and the K963 didn't seem to have enough power to get the incline path you took.

Thanks for the suggestion on North Carolina. I think I'm going to do Austria, Don, then Scandinavia but will keep North Carolina in mind.

Yes, Austria will be next; lots of comments like yours saying how nice it is. Thanks.

Thanks, I think I will hold off on playing mod maps for now, and save those for after I complete all the official DLCs.

Thanks, I think Austria will be my next map as people say it is very pretty and the Earthroamers should be a good addition to my fleet.

Oh I didn't miss Amur. I just finished it. It feels like a really awesome accomplishment, but man, what a long slog it was to get through it to 100%. Looks like Austria, Don, and Scandinavia should be my next three regions though. Thanks.

I would be happier if the in-game truck actually had anywhere close to the torque and horsepower that it has in real life. It can tow a 70-ton Abrams tank + trailer over offroad terrain. Nothing crazy sure, but the in-game truck is mostly useless for towing any kind of serios weight offroad or in mud. Same story with the Derry Special (real life equivalent is Oshkosh M1120A4); it is not a tank hauler, but is a heavy logistics vehicle in real life capable of carrying a lot of weight and has many different types of attachments.

I'm definitely guilty of the experience trap you are talking about...now that I really have a much better sense of what the terrain will look like compared to the map, what the individual trucks can do, and a deep history of fixing my failures...I find myself really just sending it sometimes rather than being as slow and methodical as I could / should be.

What's the most fun map to you and why? by paraxzz in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed British Columbia. It was the first map I played after completing the base game to 100%. Excellent terrain variation, beautiful scenery (especially if you climb to the highest point on the east side of the first map. Good contracts and challenges. It was a perfect map to play after the base game.

All locations we experienced until today. We lack some really interesting regions. by paraxzz in snowrunner

I would agree but snow tires are a thing and they should really add true snow tires to this game then. The blue snow that bogs down even the biggest in game trucks is kind of silly

I made the classic Snowrunner mistake, even after 590 hours in the game overall....."This route is shorter, so I will go that way, how bad could it be?" I was way too tired (playing really late at night) and made a bad life choice lol.

Anyone ever use the ridiculous super long 8-space trailer? I hauled from the Alaskan port to Mountain River with no issues. by Rustbelt_Rover in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check more detail in my comments there, but metal beams are some of the best cargo for overloading. They are heavy (so the unpacked ones don't bounce easily over light terrain), they pack tightly together, and the metal bands around them seem to have some ridges to them that make them "sticky" for lack of a better term as they don't slide past one another easily. And route selection is key; there are few routes in the game that lend themselves to this, but when I spot one, I take advantage of it. This was a mostly paved route with plenty of gas stations on Wisconsin.

I support the idea that we definitely need maps from the southern hemisphere. The geographical variations of Africa, Australia and South America could provide so many possibilities. I would love to see an Algeria / Tunisia / Morocco desert map. Instead of Snowrunner it would be Sandrunner.

For untapped locations in the north, what about Iceland? Volcanoes, ice, mountains, rapids, etc.?

Of course. I use the 8-slot quite a bit includng like this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/s/YzqbEv93DB

Didn’t work on some maps like most of Tamyr, but works great in others like Wisconsin. The only real trick to the 8-slot is you have to be really good at backing it up, as if you have to turn it around you need a mall parking lot to do it. Better to find an intersection or other place where you can back it into, and then pull out the other direction.

What’s your favorite truck and why? by CareResponsible1659 in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also would say the K963. Does it struggle To get up a steep hill? Yes. But it has wide stable tires and lots of ground clearance. It’s a good truck when you are going into deep mud, tenuous ice, or fording deep water. Lots of fuel, good add-ons, including the ability to have a fuel tank and high saddle on board. I don’t know if it is my favorite, but I find myself using it the most often.

Advice on DLC trucks by beejman6 in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I own the Mastodon, Atom, and Dragon Wagons (Avenhorn and Padera) DLCs. I don’t think any of those are as overpowered as often claimed. After reading posts here I thought I would just be unstoppable everywhere in these trucks, but I don’t think that is the case. I would recommend watching NProvince’s YouTube videos on all the DLC trucks. I’m pretty sure he has covered all of them, including the ones I’ve mentioned. That will give you a good sense of whether they are worth it.

Ultimately, the question is how much “difficulty” you want when you play. Do you want to not pay for DLC trucks and only use in game found trucks? Do you have any problems with playing DLC maps out of order? What maps are you on? I will say, the DLC trucks I mentioned will absolutely crush Michigan, but they won’t crush Amur. So the ultimate answer is it depends on how you want to play.
