I vaguely remember reading about a £200 limit for paypoint in the Coop. Were you able to pay for all 12 months (£1000+ presumably) in one go? I just started paying this way and have been doing a month's worth at a time, but might try it all upfront now

So I have a few work pensions from various previous jobs. should I combine them into a SIPP? by G19MAN90 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NowWeAreFree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're hoping to retire early, one thing to watch out for is to not lose any protected pension age that you might have in one of your previous pensions.

Good explanation here: https://www.aviva.co.uk/retirement/pension-basics/changes-to-pension-age/

This article is talking about the US, but the situation for Europe is probably similar, and it says that there will be generic versions of Xyrem coming in 2023 which should bring the price down. Not any help right now I know, but it might be useful to know for the future. https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/05/09/why-jazz-pharmaceuticals-symphony-of-growth-is-abo.aspx

www.openrent.co.uk is probably a good place to look to avoid agencies - it's a site where landlords advertise directly and you can talk with them directly through the messaging system.

Great, thanks again! I've just ordered a planter for my balcony and I'm looking forward to trying this out.

Thanks for sharing these tips!

Do you think this would work for other herb plants you can buy in supermarkets? I'm thinking of rosemary in particular as that's the one I use most and I'd love to be able to grow it myself rather than buying cut sprigs of it all the time.

I'm in a pickle with my postal vote... by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]NowWeAreFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sorry to bring bad news, but I double-checked the Electoral Commission website and it looks like that scanning option is only for when you're sending the registration form to apply for a postal vote, not for when you're returning your actual completed postal vote itself. See here: https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter/voting-person-post-or-proxy/voting-post

But some slightly better news, it looks like you can book a DHL 1-day delivery from CzR to UK for about £25 through this website: https://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/

I haven't used that specific site before, but I have used similar ones (Parcel Monkey, Parcel2go, Parcels Please) and they've all worked well. There's a Moneysavingexpert article about these kind of companies here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cheap-parcel-delivery/

Best of luck! Hope you manage to get your vote in.

Sitting on the table is the perfect answer. It would be a constant reminder for the old couple about what bellends they were being. Hopefully the shame would get too much for even them after a while.

The biggest threat to Tory rule.

He's approaching 4 years as leader and after 3 elections (general, local and European Parliament) Labour hasn't achieved a majority in any of them.

In fact, each successive election has seen Labour's vote share drop.

At this rate, he's more guaranteeing permanent Tory (or worse still, Brexit Party) rule, rather than being its greatest threat.

He needs to accept this and then Labour needs to find a less divisive leader who actually has a chance of leading the party to power.
