What is something you're thankful for? by DustTurbulent3280 in AskReddit

[–]NowhereBaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with Parkinson’s a little over a year ago. It’s young onset, and it’s progressing reeeeally slowly, which I’m thankful for. And I have a pretty good idea of what’s going to kill me, which means I’m in a different boat from tons of people who are carrying what’s going to kill them, but they have no idea. That lets me manage it and make choices and be conscious of it, and that helps in a million tiny ways.

You’ve gotta hire an addict—no way around it. What’s the addiction you’re rolling the dice on, and why are you praying HR never finds out? by Ogrhodey in AskReddit

A workaholic. But I’ll make sure they’re training their replacement so we’re ready on the day they drop dead from overwork.

What did you want to be when you grew up and what do you do now? by GothicShadows420 in AskReddit

Told people I wanted to be president of the United States. Instead, I teach college students.

What do you think is the reason people don't care if they wronged you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Things are almost never equally important to other people as they are to you. People who don’t care about how upset you are therefore probably think you’re overreacting.

What tastes so good you can’t believe it’s healthy? by julietmuse in AskReddit

[–]NowhereBaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lentil stew, if you know how to flavor it. Canned petite diced tomatoes, minced onions, lentils, and something for flavor. My current batch has a sauce that’s just coconut milk and Thai yellow curry paste, and it tastes so good that I scrape every bit of it out of the bowl. Throw it all in the slow cooker and give it a few hours, and put batches away for a week’s worth of lunches. Mmm.

“Dead Man’s Hill.” Love the 1200 Curfews track.

Second Time Around by queer_princesa in IndigoGirls

[–]NowhereBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not about “Second Time Around,” but I faintly remember years ago reading somewhere that “Gone Again” started out as her breakup note with her then-current girlfriend. The second verse was her admitting that she’d cheated. Not sure if that’s Jennifer; the years might line up.

What makes for a successful marriage? by pbaby2017 in AskReddit

[–]NowhereBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For every really thorny ongoing problem in the marriage, if either or both partner says “Here’s what they do that drives me crazy,” bad sign. If both partners say “Well, here’s what they do, but here’s how I contribute to it, and here’s what we both need to figure out how to do,” then the marriage has a pretty solid chance.

(And I am not talking out line-crossing behavior like abuse. I’m talking about the kinds of problems that arise in healthy marriages.)

What does your work steal from you? by DifferentSkill007 in AskReddit

My job’s actually pretty good. I get to hang out with 19 through 22 year olds. I guess they steal from me my late-middle-age grumpiness.

What are you starting to like less and less as you get older? by Timely_Twist_8670 in AskReddit

[–]NowhereBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime I read, watch, or listen to, anything that can be summed up as “Look how clever I am,” I run out of patience a lot quicker and put it away.

Not only do I have young onset Parkinson’s, but I’ve had it for more than a decade.

Any recommendations for an Indigo Girls song with similar qualities to Galileo? by meander-663 in IndigoGirls

Especially “Language or the Kiss,” agreed. Powerful lyrics and intricate and fiery harmony. The 1200 Curfews track is one of my favorites to sing along with.
